    Abstract Magnetoelectric mutual control in multiferroics, which is the electric control of magnetization, or reciprocally the magnetic control of polarization has attracted much attention because of its possible applications to spintronic devices, multi-bit memories, and so on. While the required working temperature for the practical application is much higher than room temperature, which ensures stable functionality at room temperature, the reported working temperatures were at most around room temperature. Here, we demonstrated magnetic control of ferroelectric polarization at 432 K in ferroelectric and ferroelastic Tb2(MoO4)3, in which the polarity of ferroelectric polarization is coupled to the orthorhombic strain below the transition temperature 432 K. The paramagnetic but strongly magnetoelastic Tb3+ magnetic moments enable the magnetic control of ferroelectric and ferroelastic domains; the ferroelectric polarization is controlled depending on whether the magnetic field is applied along [110] or [1$$\bar{1}$$0]. This result may pave a new avenue for designing high-temperature multiferroics.

    Superconducting properties were investigated in epitaxially layered films consisting of superconductor NbN and half-metallic Heusler alloy Co2MnSi (CMS). Temperature dependence of the electrical resistivity ρ( T) was measured by applying perpendicular magnetic fields to the surface of NbN/CMS films. With the increase of the CMS thickness dCMS, the upper critical field μ0 Hc2 decreased monotonically, but the superconducting transition temperature Tc had the minimum of 10.1 K at dCMS ≈ 5 nm. The Tc behavior was in qualitative agreement with the theory of the π-coupling. The pair-breaking parameter δ determined by the superconducting fluctuation theory took the maximum at dCMS = 3 ∼ 5 nm, which would be related to the minimum of Tc. The experimental results reveal that the superconductivity of the NbN layer in NbN/CMS films is affected by the interplay between the superconducting NbN layer and the half-metallic CMS layer.

    <title>Abstract</title>Chiral-lattice magnets can exhibit a variety of physical phenomena when time-reversal symmetry is broken by their magnetism. For example, nonreciprocal responses of (quasi)particles have been widely observed in chiral-lattice magnets with macroscopic magnetization. Meanwhile, time-reversal symmetry can also be broken in antiferromagnets without magnetization. Here we report an unconventional chirality-magnetism coupling in a chiral-lattice antiferromagnet Pb(TiO)Cu4(PO4)4 whose time-reversal symmetry is broken by an ordering of magnetic quadrupoles. Our experiments demonstrate that a sign of magnetic quadrupoles is controllable by a magnetic field only, which is generally impossible in consideration of the symmetry of magnetic quadrupoles. Furthermore, we find that the sign of magnetic quadrupoles stabilized by applying a magnetic field is reversed by a switching of the chirality. Our theoretical calculations and phenomenological approach reveal that this unusual coupling between the chirality and magnetic quadrupoles is mediated by the previously-unrecognized magnetic octupoles that emerge due to the chirality.

    &lt;p&gt;銅酸化物高温超伝導体の面間抵抗率に見られるT_c_近くのupturnの原因を調べる為、CuサイトをFe置換したBi-2212の単結晶で置換率が0%から2%ずつ増やして6%まで作製した試料の面間抵抗率を磁場中測定した。その結果、いずれの試料においても磁気伝導度は磁場の2乗に比例する成分とそうでない成分から成り立っていることを発見した。これは面間抵抗率のupturnが擬ギャップと超伝導ギャップの足し合わせによって引き起こされていることを示している。&lt;/p&gt;

    空間反転対称性を持たない点群Tdに属する遷移金属錯体化合物[MnIII(taa)]に関して、磁場中での試料回転に伴う焦電流を測定し二次の電気磁気効果によって発生する磁場誘起電気分極を観測した。[MnIII(taa)]分子は、スピンクロスオーバー転移温度以上の高スピン状態で動的ヤーンテラー効果によって分子歪みを生じ、これが向きの自由度を持った電気双極子を発生する。この分子歪みはスピン軌道相互作用を起源とする単イオン型磁気異方性を介してスピンと結合するため、磁場によって整列する。この整列のため歪由来の電気双極子も配向する。これを反映して電気磁気効果による磁場誘起電気分極が増強されることを明らかにした。電気分極の値は100μC/m2に達し、さらに動的ヤーンテラー効果を持たない低温相の低スピン状態へのスピンクロスオーバー転移によってほぼ消失することが分かった。さらに既知の単イオン型磁気異方性と分子歪み間の強弾性相互作用の値を考慮したモデル計算によって、磁場誘起電気分極の角度依存性、温度依存性及び磁場依存性を定量的に説明できることを示した。また、動的ヤーンテラー効果に伴って現れる分子歪の磁場配向によって比較的大きい大きい磁気キャパシタンスと磁歪が現れることを明らかにした。観測された磁歪は、[MnIII(taa)]分子のヤーンテラー伸張軸が磁場方向に揃うことを反映して一軸伸張型の振る舞いを示すことが分かった。

    The high-pressure electric polarization measurements of the spin dimer systems TlCuCl3 have revealed that the quantum fluctuation inherent in the spin dimer enhances the electric polarization, induced by the antiferromagnetic order owing to the magnon Bose-Einstein condensation, and gives soft nature to the ferroelectricity. By utilizing the soft nature, we have succeeded in fast switching of the nonreciprocal directional response to the microwave by the reversal of the electric polarization. We also have found that the optical transition from the spin singlet to the triplet state in KCuCl3 is induced by the oscillating electric fields of the terahertz electromagnetic wave.

    In this research, we aim to find light induced ferroelectricity in the spin crossover complex [MnIII(taa)]. [MnIII(taa)] molecule possesses a electric dipole moment due to a dynamic Jahn-Teller effect in its high spin state. Because of an existence of a cooperative interaction between electric dipole moments, the ferroelectricity is expected to appear by light induced spin crossover from the low spin to the high spin state. To find this phenomenon, the dielectric and electric polarization measurement systems, and microwave ESR system, in which the measurements under illumination of light can be carried out, were developed. Although the light induced ferroelectricity was not observed, we found interesting magnetocapacitance effects, in which the dielectric constant changes more than 100% by applied magnetic field.

    We have demonstrated that a dynamic magneto-electric phenomenon called "electromagnon", for which magnon is excited by the electric component of light, can be driven by dynamics of the vector spin chirality in the frustrated magnet. Furthermore, we suggested that such a phenomenon also occurs in quantum spin gap systems due to the spin current mechanism, which brings about a electric polarization proportional to the vector spin chirality. According to this idea, we succeeded in observing ferroelectricity induced by Bose-Einstein condensation of magnon quasi-particles.

    We proposed a theory for complicated quantum spin systems in which plural spins interact with each other strongly. The strongly interacting part can be regarded as a multispin unit and we introduced a form factor that depends on magnetic structure of the multispin unit. We applied the theory to a particular materials and investigated intensity of inelastic neutron scattering. When the magnetic ion is located at a site without inversion symmetry, quadrupole operator becomes equivalent to the electric polarization. This results in maltiferroic properties. In a particular material, there are intersite quadrupole interactions. We reported that they can determine the easy axis.

    今年度は、昨年度に引き続いて可視光照射をしつつ高周波ESR測定を行うためのクライオスタットの作成を行った。可視光照射のため用いる光ファイバーをクライオスタットの試料付近まで導入し光照射下において、周波数75〜2000GHz、パルス磁場〜55Tの条件のもとでの強磁場高周波ESR測定が可能な装置を開発した。可視光源には発振波長632.8nn、出力10mVのヘリウムーネオンレーザーを用いた。この装置を用い、鉄スピンクロスオーバー錯体の光照射ESR測定を行った。試料が低スピン状態にある温度4.2Kにおいて可視光照射し、光誘起を起こしその状態でのESR信号の観測を試みた。大きな零磁場ギャップを持つと予想されるFe^<II>イオンのESR信号を観測するため、高周波730.5GHz、〜55Tの磁場範囲で測定を行ったが、残念ながら信号を観測することはできなかった。光照射によって高スピン状態に誘起されるのは、試料の表面付近にのみ限られるので有効スピン数が少なすぎ、今回開発した装置の感度内で信号を観測するには至らなかったのではないかと考えている。一方今年度はこれ以外に、ペロブスカイト型コバルト酸化物において新しいタイプのスピンクロスオーバー現象を見出した。Sr_<0.75>Y_<0.25>CoO_<3-δ>について強磁場磁化測定を行い磁場誘起によるスピンクロスオーバーを観測したが、我々の解析からこの現象は、強磁性的な内部磁揚の助けを借りて生じており、低スピンから高スピン状態への転移が強磁性を伴う興味深いものであることがわかった。

  12. ダイヤモンドアンビルセルを用いた超高圧下遠赤外ESRによる固体酸素の研究

    これまでの分光測定からは、明らかでなかった固体酸素a相の磁気励起モードの磁場依存性を強磁場遠赤外ESR測定によって明らかにした。観測されたESRモードは、典型的な容易面型の二副格子反強磁性体のものであることがわかった。またこれまでのX-band ESR測定では大きな0磁場ギャップのため一部しか観測できていなかった酸素気相のESRスペクトルの全体を高周波強磁場ESR測定によって明らかにし、その結果がTinkhamとStrandbergが提出した酸素分子回転運動をとりいれた理論によってほぼ説明できることを示した。しかし気相で見積もられた磁気異方性の大きさが固体酸素α相でのそれと2倍程度異なっていることが問題として残った。さらに理研播磨研究所量子材料研グループが中心となってSPring8で行われた放射光を用いた固体酸素の強磁湯中でのX線回折実験に参加した。阪大旧天谷グループからダイヤモンドアンビルセルの提供を受け高圧下ESR測定を試みたが、ダイヤモンドアンビルセルの開口部が狭いことやダイヤモンドによって遠赤外光が屈折され光路が曲げられてしまうため、セルを透過する際に遠赤外光が大きく減衰してしまいこれを実現するのは非常に困難であった。レンズや電磁波を集光するためのホーンをセル直前におくなど工夫してこれを解決することを試みたが、残念ながらパルスマグネットと組み合わせた高圧下強磁場ESR測定を可能とするにはいたらなかった。
