Controlling the dispersion state of nanoparticles in a polymer matrix is necessary to produce polymer nanocomposites. The surface modification of nanoparticles is used to enable their dispersion in polymers. Moreover, molecular dynamics (MD) simulations are useful for revealing the interfacial properties between nanoparticles and polymers to aid in the design of materials. In this study, the effect of surface coverage, modifier length, and polymer species on the interfacial structure and affinity between surface-modified Al2O3 and polymer melts were investigated using all-atom MD simulations. Hexanoic, decanoic, and tetradecanoic acids were used as surface modifiers, and polypropylene (PP), polystyrene (PS), and poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) were used as polymers. The work of adhesion Wadh and the work of immersion Wimm were selected as quantitative measures of affinity. Wadh was calculated using the phantom-wall approach, and Wimm was calculated by simply subtracting the surface tension of polymers γL from Wadh. The results showed that Wadh and Wimm were improved by surface modification with low coverage, owing to a good penetration of the polymer. The effect of modifier length on Wadh and Wimm was small. Whereas Wadh increased in the following order: PP < PS < PMMA, Wimm increased as follows: PMMA < PS < PP. Finally, the trend of Wadh and Wimm was organized using the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter χ between the modifier and the polymer. This study demonstrates that the interfacial affinity can be improved by tuning the surface coverage and modifier species depending on the polymer matrix.

Abstract Rapid cooling of reactants quenches the intermediate state of chemical reactions and enables the synthesis of novel materials that cannot be realized by thermodynamic equilibrium processes. In this study, we estimated the cooling rate of reactant solutions during the supercritical hydrothermal synthesis of metal oxide nanoparticles. Neutron radiography measurements were performed to visualize the profile of the average water density at a junction where a stream of heated water was mixed with another stream of cooling water. The cooling rate of the heated water that mimicked the reactant solution was estimated using the relationship between the density and temperature of water under constant pressure conditions. This result should provide vital information about the flow-type synthesis of novel metal oxide nanoparticles.

To control the dispersibility of surface-modified nanoparticles in fluid, it is important to evaluate the affinity between surface-modified nanoparticles and solvents and elucidate the effect of surface modification on the affinity at the molecular level. In this study, the effect of the chain length of the surface modifier and solvent on the work of adhesion Wadh was investigated for the carboxylic acid-modified Al2O3/ n-alkane interface by molecular dynamics simulations using the phantom-wall method. Here, we adopted hexanoic acid, decanoic acid, and octadecanoic acid as the surface modifiers and n-hexane, n-decane, and n-dodecane as the solvents. At a surface coverage of 100%, the effect of the modifier length on Wadh was small because the solvent did not penetrate any modifier layers with a dense packing state. At a surface coverage of 50%, the solvent penetration was good except for the octadecanoic acid modifier, and Wadh for the decanoic acid modifier was higher than that for the hexanoic acid and octadecanoic acid modifiers. For the decanoic acid modifier with a surface coverage of 50%, the effect of the solvent length on Wadh was small because the density distributions of the modifier and solvent near the interface were almost the same in all solvent systems. Solvent penetration was evaluated using the overlap parameter, which is the degree of overlap of the density distribution. A large penetration resulted in high Wadh. We demonstrated that the affinity between surface-modified nanoparticles and solvents can be increased by ensuring high modifier-solvent penetration via adjusting the surface coverage and surface modifier.

Poly (N-Isopropylacrylamide-co-2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (P(NIPAM-co-HEMA)) wassynthesized using ultrasonic irradiation in a mixed solvent of water and ethanol without chemical initiator. Theeffects of monomer molar ratio and ultrasonic intensity on time courses of molar fraction of NIPAM andresponsive temperature of synthesized polymers were investigated. In the early stage of the reaction, NIPAMfraction of copolymer was low, that is, the polymerization rate of HEMA is high. This is because the radicalstability of HEMA is higher than that of NIPAM. The relationship between conversion and molar fraction ofNIPAM did not depend on the ultrasound intensity. The lower the ratio of NIPAM, the lower the critical value(LCST) because HEMA is more hydrophobic than NIPAM. The higher polymerization rate resulted in the higherLCST. Those results suggested that the composition and responsive temperature of the copolymer can becontrolled by changing the irradiation time and the ultrasound intensity.

<p>In this work, a model that can be used in large-scale simulations was developed for studying the dissociation of methane hydrate. In the model, two mechanisms were assumed: (i) dissociation of methane hydrate as as a concentration driving force difference and (ii) decomposition of hydrate host cage of the methane hydrate according to a chemical potential driving force ignoring heat effects of the endothermic reaction. Experimental data of decomposition rates at 278 K, 4.39 MPa were correlated by the model assuming that (i) and (ii) occur in parallel using an effective rate constant of decomposition K as a fitting parameter. As a result, the rate constant of decomposition K was estimated to be 1.73 × 10-9 at 278 K.</p>

Poly (N-Isopropylacrylamide-co-2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (P(NIPAM-co-HEMA)) was synthesized using ultrasonic irradiation in a mixed solvent of water and ethanol without chemical initiator. Effect of ultrasonic intensity on time courses of conversion ratio, copolymer composition, number average molecular weight, and polydispersity of synthesized polymers was investigated in order to clarify the reaction mechanism of radical copolymerization of temperature-responsive polymer with low molecular weight distribution (i.e., low polydispersity). The reaction kinetic model for ultrasonic synthesis process of P(NIPAM-co-HEMA) was constructed with considering the cross-propagation reaction and cross-termination reaction in the radical copolymerization of NIPAM and HEMA. The experimental results showed that PNIPAM fraction of the copolymer in the early stage was lower than initial NIPAM fraction. Those results suggested that HEMA terminated radical was more stable than NIPAM terminated radical so that consumption rate of NIPAM was slower than that of HEMA. The calculated results supported that the cross propagation reaction between HEMA terminated radical and NIPAM monomer was much slower than that between NIPAM terminated radical and HEMA monomer.

Poly (N-Isopropylacrylamide-co-2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (P(NIPAM-co-HEMA)) was synthesized using ultrasonic irradiation in a mixed solvent of water and ethanol without chemical initiator. Effect of monomer molar ratio on time courses of conversion to polymer, number average molecular weight, and polydispersity of synthesized polymers were investigated in order to determine the optimum conditions to synthesize the temperature-responsive polymer with low molecular weight distribution (i.e., low polydispersity). The higher the ratio of NIPAM to HEMA, the higher the polymerization rate because ethanol acts as a scavenger in radical polymerization. The higher ratio of NIPAM also resulted in faster polymer degradation. Copolymers with low polydispersity were obtained at any monomer molar ratio. The transmittance of aqueous solutions of copolymers synthesized with various monomer molar ratios decreased abruptly at a critical temperature which depends on the monomer molar ratio. The lower the ratio of NIPAM, the lower the critical value (LCST) because NIPAM is less hydrophobic than HEMA.

Poly (N-Isopropylacrylamide-co-2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (P(NIPAAm-co-HEMA)) was synthesized using ultrasonic irradiation without chemical initiator in the mixed solvent of water and ethanol. Effects of solvent composition, monomer molar ratio, and reaction temperature on time course of conversion to polymer, number average molecular weight, and polydispersity were investigated in order to synthesize the polymer with low molecular weight distribution (i.e., low polydispersity). Lower ethanol composition of solvent resulted in higher conversion to polymer, faster decrease of molecular weight, and lower polydispersity. Ethanol acts as a scavenger for radical polymerization, so that higher ethanol composition decreases the polymerization rate. Faster polymerization rate gives faster generation of polymer, and faster degradation of generated polymer, which resulted in faster decrease of molecular weight and lower polydispersity. Higher NIPAAm ratio resulted in higher polymerization rate, faster polymer degradation rate, and lower polydispersity. In the case of the homopolymer of PNIPAAm and PHEMA, PNIPAAm radical has lower reaction activity with ethanol than PHEMA radical, so that PNIPAAm polymerizes faster than PHEMA. Reaction temperature slightly affected the reaction rate. Temperature dependence of polymerization is positive but that of radical formation is negative, and the effect of those two factors might be almost same.

Numerical simulation about the hydrothermal process of two inches bulk single crystal growth has been done. The autoclave is assumed to be axisymmetric. In the present research, the authors discuss the natural convection heat transfer when the shape of baffles is flat or funnel-shaped. When the funnel-shaped baffle is used, the amount of flowing between a raw material zone and a crystal growth zone increases significantly. However, temperature difference between the two zones does not become very small. Therefore the funnel-shaped baffle is effective in hydrothermal crystal growth process from the viewpoint of transport phenomena. It is found that the best angle of the baffle is about 20 degrees in our calculation. Similar results are provided when the porous model in the raw material zone is employed.

A three-dimensional finite element analysis of thermal stress fields in oxide crystals grown by the CZ method have been carried out, where the crystal was assumed to be a linear elastic material whose mechanical properties are anisotropic. The von Mises equivalent stresses in the semitransparent crystals were calculated with the temperature distributions obtained by the global heat transfer analysis in the CZ furnace taking into account the radiative heat transfer in the crystal The effect of the absorption coefficients of the crystal on the thermal stress fields in the crystal were numerically investigated as well as the effect of the interface inversion

A three-dimensional finite element computer program for thermal stress analysis was developed for the cracking of trigonal class 3 m oxide bulk single crystals such as lithium niobate (LN) and lithium tantalate (LT) during Czochralski growth. A tensor transformation technique was use to obtain the elastic constant matrix and the thermal expansion coefficient vector corresponding to an arbitrary pulling direction. The anisotropy of the elastic constants and the thermal expansion coefficients as well as their temperature dependence was considered in the program. Using this program, we analyzed thermal stress in LN bulk single crystals with three types of temperature profiles or crystal-melt interface shapes. The analyses were carried out for the pulling directions of both the a-axis [100] and the c-axis [001]. The results show that thermal stress is very sensitive to the crystal-melt interface shape, and that thermal stress is lower in the c-axis pulling than in the a-axis pulling. The relation between thermal stress and the cracking and quality of a bulk single crystal is also discussed.

A multiple dissociation model is proposed that considers transport phenomenon in the interface of MH at practical dissociation conditions. Two methane dissociative reaction are assumed as follows: (i) dissociation reaction of methane molecules without destroying the host cage of MH as a concentration driving force difference between MH and bulk phase, and (ii) decomposition reaction of the host cage of MH as a chemical potential driving force difference between hydrate and liquid phase. These reactions depend on dissociation conditions.

The Twenty-seventh Space Utilization Symposium (January 24-25, 2011. Institute of Space and Astronautical Science, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA)(ISAS)), Sagamihara, Kanagawa Japan Microgravity conditions have advantages of measurement of surface tension and viscosity of metallic liquids by the oscillating drop method with an electromagnetic levitation (EML) device. Recently, it has been identified that dependence of surface tension on oxygen partial pressure (Po2) must be considered for industrial application of surface tension values. Effect of Po2 on surface tension would apparently change viscosity. Therefore, surface tension and viscosity must be measured simultaneously in the same atmospheric conditions. Moreover, effect of the electromagnetic force (EMF) on the surface oscillations must be clarified to obtain the ideal surface oscillation because the EMF works as the external damping force to the oscillating liquid droplets, so extensive EMF makes apparently the viscosity values large. In our working group (WG), using the parabolic flight levitation experimental facilities (PFLEX) the effects of Po2 and external EMF on surface oscillation of levitated liquid droplets are systematically investigated for the precise measurements of surface tension and viscosity of high temperature liquids. In this year we performed the observation of surface oscillations of levitated liquid Si-Ge alloys using PFLEX on board flight experiments by G-II operated by DAS. The density of liquid Si-Ge was measured by using electromagnetic levitation with a static magnetic field. In these experiments, we obtained the density, the viscosity and the surface tension values. From these measurements, we discussed surface segregation in systems forming intermetallic compounds. The composition dependence of surface tension was expressed by a modified ideal solution model. On the basis of activity of our working group and European WG, we have been preparing the research of thermophysical properties measurement of high-temperature liquids under microgravity conditions in ISS from 2011-2012.

Recently, a novel method of measuring the thermophysical properties, particularly thermal conductivity, of high-temperature molten materials using the electromagnetic levitation technique has been developed, where this method is based on a noncontact laser AC calorimetry, and entails the superimposing of a static magnetic field to suppress convection in an electromagnetically levitated droplet. Here, the numerical simulation studies are introduced, in which the effect of a static magnetic field on melt convection in the droplet and the measured thermal conductivity have been investigated numerically, in order to determine the optimum conditions for measurement and to estimate the accuracy of the measured value.

第25回宇宙利用シンポジウム(2009年1月14日-15日, 宇宙航空研究開発機構宇宙科学研究本部相模原キャンパス) The Twenty-fifth Space Utilization Symposium (January 14-15, 2009: ISAS/JAXA Sagamihara, Japan) Microgravity conditions have advantages of measurement of surface tension and viscosity of metallic liquids by the oscillating drop method with an electromagnetic levitation (EML) device. Recently, it has been identified that dependence of surface tension on oxygen partial pressure (Po(sub 2)) must be considered for industrial application of surface tension values. Effect of Po(sub 2) on surface tension would apparently change viscosity. In our working group (WG), using the parabolic flight levitation experimental facilities (PFLEX) the effects of Po(sub 2) and external EMF on surface oscillation of levitated liquid droplets are systematically investigated for the precise measurements of surface tension and viscosity of high temperature liquids. In this year we performed the observation of surface oscillations of levitated liquid Cu and Ag using PFLEX on board flight experiments by G-II operated by DAS. These observations were performed under the controlled Po(sub 2) conditions. In these experiments, we obtained the density, the viscosity and the surface tension values as same as reported data, and also obtained the difference of surface oscillations with the change of the Po(sub 2). On the basis of present experimental results, we discussed with European WG member in ESA-ESTEC at this December about the effect of Po(sub 2) on the surface of high-temperature liquids. We agreed to make a proposal of measurement of thermophysical prosperities of high-temperature liquid in controlled Po(sub 2) conditions for next ESA/JAXA-AO.

A mathematical model for phase separation of a binary mixture layer subjected to a vertical temperature gradient spanning the critical temperature and initially a vertical concentration gradient was developed in this study. Then, the effects of their gradients and convection driven by chemical potential gradient-induced capillary force on the phase separation structures were numerically investigated. As a result, it was shown that a stripe, a droplet, a bicontinuous or a horizontal two-layer structure appears depending on the magnitudes of the temperature and concentration gradients and convection.

In single crystal growth of silicon and oxide, it is important to acquire correct knowledge about transport phenomena in the crystal growth furnace and then to control them, because the quality of crystal is closely related to the transport phenomena in the furnace. Numerical simulation is one of the methods to understand the phenomena in the furnace, and recently there has been much interest in the calculation of melt convection and global analysis of heat transfer in the furnace. In this paper, the recent studies on numerical simulations of single crystal growth by the Czochralski method are introduced.

In the present paper, we describe numerical simulation of process which produces nanoparticles by hydrothermal synthesis in supercritical phase, where the reactants and the hot water are mixed in the reactor and consequently nanoparticles precipitate through chemical reaction, nucleation and crystal growth processes. The mathematical model of the process shown here links the kinetics of chemical reaction, nucreation and crystal growth to the thermo-fluid dynamics in a wide range of temperature below and above the critical point, at which the themophysical properties such as density change very significantly.

The effects of internal radiative heat transfer and rf coil position on spoke patterns on oxide melt surface were numerically investigated. It was found that the spoke pattern disappeared once when the internal radiative heat transfer was taken into account in the melt. In addition, appearance of the spoke pattern was dependent on the rf coil position. When the rf coil was set to be higher position relative to the crucible or the heat generation rate was relatively larger, the spoke patterns were difficult to generate.

Single crystal of oxides, such as Al_2O_3 and LiNbO_3, are prepared by Czochralski method. Melted oxides have larger Prandtl number than the molten semiconducting materials, thus shape of the crystal varies with operating conditions. The shape and temperature distribution give influences on thermal stress, and the quality of the crystal. There was, however, no theoretical background to calculate thermal stress in the growing crystal, because of the complicatedly coupled non-linear phenomena in the CZ furnace. The finite element method is used to develop a computational code and sample computations are carried out for Al_2O_3 system. In this case, the crystal shape, and the thermal stress distribution are found to be dependent on the crystal rotation rate. When crystal rotation rate is increased, with other operating conditions unchanged, the melt/crystal interface changes its shape from convex to concave toward melt, at the critical Reynolds number (Re_s). When Re_s<Re_s, the maximum thermal stress on the melt/crystal interface is small and insensible to Re_s. When Re_s exceeds Re_s, thermal stress on the interface increases very rapidly.

The effect of static magnetic filed (i.e., melt convection) on the phase separation structures of undercooled Cu-Co and Cu-Fe alloys solidified under a static magnetic field was clarified using an electromagnetic levitation (EML) technique superimposed with a static magnetic field and neutron CT. By direct numerical simulations of three-dimensional, unsteady magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) convection in a spherical electromagnetically levitated molten Cu-Co droplet under different strengths of the static magnetic field, it was demonstrated that the marked change in phase separation structures in undercooled Cu-Co alloys with increasing the static magnetic filed was closely related to the laminar-turbulent transition of MHD convection in the levitated droplet. The compositional dependence of the thermal conductivity of a molten Cu-Fe alloy at low Fe contents was measured by combining the EML with a static magnetic field and a periodic laser heating method.

An estimation method of the work of adhesion indicating the interfacial affinity between surface-modified inorganic solid materials and organic solvents has been established by using molecular dynamics simulations with the phantom-wall method, one of the thermodynamic integration methods. The effects of surface-modifying molecules, organic solvents and surface coverage on the interfacial molecular structures and the work of adhesion were investigated. In the case of decanoic acid (surface-modifying molecule)/hexane (solvent) system, the work of adhesion took the maximum value at 75% surface coverage due to the interfacial molecular structures. For surface-modifying molecules and solvents, the work of adhesion increased as the degree of penetration of solvent molecules into the layer of surface-modifying molecules increased.

For a packed bed reactor, which consists of a 1/2-inch stainless steel tube filled with alumina particles having the diameter of 3 mm, the flow behavior of heavy oil in the reactor under the atmosphere of nitrogen gas or supercritical water was observed by neutron radiography. In the heavy oil/nitrogen gas system, the effect of reactor temperature on the flow behavior at atmospheric pressure was clarified. Particularly, the flow channeling was observed in the reactor at a relatively high temperature. In the heavy oil/supercritical water system, the effect of flow rate of heavy oil on the flow behavior was investigated at 400℃ and 25 MPa. Through this work, it was revealed that neutron radiography is a useful technique to visualize the flow behavior of heavy oil in a packed bed reactor, whose wall was made of metal, at high temperature and high pressure.

The spatial structures of organic molecule-modified CeO2 nanoparticles in polystyrene (PS) nanocomposite thin films spin-coated on silicon substrates were observed by TEM and SPM, before and after the films underwent thermal annealing above the glass transition temperature of PS. TEM images indicated that the nanoparticles segregated to the surface of PS nanocomposite thin film after spin-coating process. Then, the nanoparticles migrated away from the film surface to the substrate/film interface during thermal annealing, maintaining the two-dimensional spatial structures. Here, we clarified the effect of interaction between nanoparticles, i.e., surface modifiers on the nanoparticles, and solvent or PS on the spatial structures of nanoparticles before and after thermal annealing. In addition, the mechanism of nanoparticle migration across the PS thin film was investigated.

To investigate the effect of melt convection in molten Cu80Co20 on phase separation structures in the undercooled state, the velocity distributions on the surface of an electromagnetically levitated molten Cu80Co20 droplet were measured using a high-speed video camera, and then the structures of the solidified sample were observed by SEM, where the strength of convection was controlled by applying a static magnetic field to the droplet. As a result, it was revealed that the transition from turbulent flow to laminar one in the droplet occurs around 1.5 T at which the phase separation structure of Cu-Co alloy changes remarkably. In addition, the normal spectral emissivity and surface tension of molten Cu-Co alloys with different compositions were measured in the wide temperature range including the undercooling condition by using the same electromagnetic levitator.

For the design and optimization of coating process of nanoparticles/polymer composite thin films and their devise manufacturing, solvent evaporation from the films and dewetting dynamics of the films during thermal annealing were observed, and the relationship between these phenomena and the spatial structure of nanoparticles in the films was investigated. The evaporation rate of organic solvent from the film was strongly affected by the presence of nanopraticles. The dewetting was suppressed by adding nanoparticles which segregated to the film surface. Brownian dynamics simulations suggested that the dispersion state of nanoparticles in solvent depends on the combination of solvent and organic molecules to modify the nanoparticle surface.

The ultimate aim of our work is to acquire correct understandings for the dewetting behavior of nanoparticles/polymer composite thin films in order to determine the optimum conditions for a defect-free and smooth coating of the films. In the present work, the following points were investigated as the first step. The dewetting behavior of polystyrene (PS) thin films containing CeO_2 nanoparticles on a silica glass plate coated with octadecyltrietoxysilane was observed using a phase-shifting interference microscopy, a laser scanning confocal microscopy and an atomic force microscopy, where the PS film was spin coated on the silane-coated substrate, and then was annealed at 353 K. The surface of the CeO_2 nanoparticles used here were modified with decanoic acid through the organic-ligand-assisted supercritical hydrothermal process, and consequently, the nanoparticles obtained were cubic-shaped ones with average edge length of 4-6 nm and could be dispersed completely in organic solvents. The film thickness was approximately 20-30 nm. As a result, several holes, i.e., dry patches with a rim, caused by the dewetting process appeared on the PS film containing nanoparticles, expanded and approached one another. Then, the approaching holes became a bridging filament, and finally, broke and left behind isolated small droplets on the substrate. Also, it seemed that the dewetting process of the PS film containing nanoparticles was faster than that without nanoparticles, although we could not discuss quantitatively the comparison between the dewetting behaviors with and without nanoparticles because the dewetting behavior without nanoparticles at the initial stage could not be observed. It was found that the size of the small droplets left on the substrate became smaller when the nanoparticles were added. In addition, numerical simulations of dewetting process based on the lubrication approximation were carried out, considering that the enhancement of dewetting by addition of nanoparticles was due to the variation of apparent Hamaker constant of the film.

The aims of the present work are to manufacture a micro compression tester to measure the mechanical properties of a particle aggregate formed in a shear flow, and to investigate the effect of several factors on the compressive deformation characteristics of the aggregate. This year, the followings were carried out. 1.Manufacture of glass fiber probe : a manufacturing technique of a glass fiber probe to compress a particle aggregate was established by combining hydrofluoric acid etching and optical polishing. 2.Visualization of compressive deformation behavior of particle aggregate : a three-dimensional visualization technique of aggregate by superimposing laser scanning confocal microscope images was established. 3.Compression test : the compression test of a particle aggregate formed in a shear flow was carried out, and the effectiveness of a micro compression tester developed here was demonstrated. Before the compression test, the aggregation and breakup behaviors of latex particles in shear flow confined between two parallel plates were investigated using an in situ observation apparatus with a laser scanning confocal microscope. As a result, the average size of the aggregates decreases as shear rate increases and the gap width decreases due to the hydrodynamic effect acting on the aggregates. The size distributions of the aggregates become narrow as the gap width decreases. In addition, the fractal dimension, i.e., the structure of the aggregates, was almost independent of shear rate and the gap width, and approximately 1.2, which suggests that the aggregates are relatively compact.

We have investigated the relationship between the flow pattern based on electrohydrodynamic (EHD) convection and phase separation structure in a polymer blend film. In the present study, the solvent evaporation and thermal quench of polymer blend solutions were adopted to induce the phase separation in the film. In the former method, we have investigated the effect of EHD convection on the domain structure in a polystyrene (PS)/polyvinylacetate (PVA) blend film to demonstrate the feasibility of using the EHD effect as a means of mixing and morphology control in a polymer blend film. Here, polymers-toluene solutions were spread on a glass substrate with patterned electrodes to apply a dc electric field, and well-defined structures of EHD convection were formed in the polymer solutions. As a result, regular patterns were formed in the PS/PVA polymer blend him in which PVA-rich domains were confined within each unit of patterned electrodes, i.e.,between positive and negative electrodes, at an appropriate electric voltage. Also, it was demonstrated that such novel morphology are not due to the wetting/dewetting effect of polymer components to the Pt electrodes deposited on the glass substrate, by experiments with a SiO_2-covered substrate. In the later case, since we had some problems in the experimental apparatus and procedure, unfortunately we could not obtain the available results. In addition, we have developed the numerical simulation code of the phase separation based on the Cahn-Hilliard model with a hydrodynamic effect, and then clarified the effects of the capillary force, gravity force and temperature gradient on the phase separation structure.

The phase separation behaviors in a layer of isobutyric acid (IBA)-water binary mixture were experimentally investigated, where the layer with 3 mm thickness was sandwiched between two sapphire glasses and was subjected to a vertical temperature gradient by keeping the lower hot side temperature T_b above the critical temperature T_c and keeping the upper cold side one T_t below the critical one. The following conclusions were obtained. 1. The patterns characterized by a polygonal cell including one droplet, similar to those observed by Assenheimer, Khaykovich & Steinberg (1994) whose layers were thinner than the present ones, are formed in a limited region of temperature gradients across the layer, although the patterns finally disappear. 2. The growth rate of the phase-separated droplets increases with temperature gradient ΔT/d, especially increases rapidly beyond 1.7K/mm. In addition, the growth rate increases with increasing of τ(=(T_tT_c)/T_c). These trends were also observed for the extinction rate of the droplets. 3. The formation of the polygonal cellular patterns including one droplet is attributed to the thermocapillary motion along the droplet surface, i.e., Marangoni convection. 4. The growth of the phase-separated droplets is enhanced by the concentration-driven Rayleigh convection in the layer. 5. The extinction of the phase-separated droplets is enhanced by the thermocapillary motion along the droplet surface.

Improvement of a cryogenic air separation system combined with O_2/CO_2 combustion process are Studied. An improved air separation process for O_2/CO_2 combustion plant is proposed and simulated. A conventional cryogenic air separation plant loses much exergy in the air compression process. One of the methods to reduce energy consumption in the air compression process is to adopt a single rectification column instead of a double rectification column. The single column process is possible to operate at lower pressure. In result, the energy consumption for O_2 production is reduced by 14% compared with the double column process. One of the other methods to reduce the energy consumption for air separation is utilizing cold exergy of LNG for the air separation process in a LNG fired power plant. We proposed a novel process to utilize the LNG cold exergy for the air separation, and simulated. The low temperature compression of air is performed to reduce the energy consumption. The LNG cold exergy is utilized at low temperature to increase the efficiency of cold exergy. The energy consumption for O_2 production is reduced by 40.7% compared with the conventional one, and the efficiency of LNG cold exergy becomes 57.3%. Improvement of performance in a cryogenic heat exchanger is necessary to reduce the energy consumption. A fibrous media heat exchanger in proposed, which has large heat transfer area. Experiments and numerical simulations are performed to estimate the performance of the heat exchanger in cryogenic operation. The fibrous media heat exchanger has higher thermal efficiency than conventional packed beds regenerators, when the heat exchanger length is short. Effect of frost deposition caused by water vapor in the air is estimated for continuous operation. The frost deposition occurs where the temperature gradient is large, and the amount of frost increases linearly to the operating time.

本年度は、polystyrene(PS)/poly(vinylacetate)(PVAc)/toluene系を対象とし、以下の点を明らかにした。

Since the slurries used in the CMP process contain several chemical additives, under certain conditions, the particles in the slurries may aggregate and adhere to the wafer and/or pad surfaces before and during the polishing process. Such aggregations result in defects such as scratches on the wafer surface. Therefore, for performance of good local and global planarity without failures, it is important to determine the optimal conditions for preparation of stabilized slurries without aggregations. In addition, the acquirement of correct knowledge about the size and shape of aggregates during the process, i.e., the aggregation and breakage behaviors of particles in a confined shear flow between the wafer and the pad, is also a critical issue. The aim of the present work is to investigate experimentally and theoretically the particle dynamics in a simple shear flow confined between the two parallel walls. We developed an experimental apparatus with a confocal scanning laser microscope for in-situ observation of the particle dynamics in a shear flow between two parallel disks. In experiment, polystyrene particles of 2μm in diameter were suspended in a NaCl aqueous solution. We could observed the rotational behavior of aggregates in a shear flow. As a result, it was found that lower shear rate results in larger size of aggregates. In addition, as the distance between two disks increased, the average area of aggregates increased. We constructed a mathematical model for particle aggregation process in a shear flow. In this model, we considered the hydrodynamic drag, the interaction between particle and particle, and particle and wall, and colloidal interactions. As the distance between two parallel walls increased, the size of aggregates increased and the number of aggregates contacted with wall decreased. When the colloidal interaction between particle and wall was smaller than that between particle and particle, the size of aggregates increased and the number of aggregates contacted with wall decreased.

Numerical simulations of the manufacturing of waveguides with grating patterns on a nonlinear optical (NLO) polymer film using photothermal poling were carried out The mathematical model was constructed, in which spatial and temporal variations of molecular dipoles during heating with a focused laser beam and electrical poling were considered. The effects of operational factors, i.e., laser power, beam diameter, moving speed of a sample, and electric field strength, on the grating configuration were investigated. As a result, the following guidelines for producing a waveguide with high performance were obtained : the laser beam wavelength should be selected so as to heat uniformly throughout the thickness of the polymer film, the laser power should be as high as possible without causing large deformation in the film, the laser beam diameter should be smaller than half period of the grating, the moving speed of the stage should be slow, and the electric field strength should be as high as possible, if dielectric breakdown is to be avoided. In addition, measurements of the rotational diffusion coefficient and the thermal diffusivity of poly (methyl methacrylate) with Disperse Red 1 (DR1) chromophore side groups were carried out.

Use of agriculturally derived products such as starch and replacement for totally synthetic polymers reduce our dependence on petrochemically derived monomers, and are currently an active research area because of the biodegradability of these plant-derived materials, It is important to acquire the fundamental data such as the thermophysical properties for the design and optimization of the apparatus to produce such materials, In the present work, the thermal conductivity of a starch-synthetic polymer composite was measured under heated and pressurized conditions, and the following conclusions were obtained. 1) Development of the probe to measure thermal conductivity of the material The probe for thermal conductivity measurement of food materials under heated (- 150゚C) and pressurized conditions (-20MPa) has been developed, being based on the transient hot wire method. 2) Thermal conductivity measurement of starch gel After the validity of the data measured using the probe was verified by comparison with published data of water, the thermal conductivity of gelatinized potato starches was determined at 25-80゚C, 50-80 % moisture, and 0.2-10 MPa. It was found that the thermal conductivity of the starch gel increases with temperature and moisture content, and that it increases with pressure up to I MPa, above which it remains almost constant. The pressure dependency can be justified by considering the presence of entrapped fine air bubbles which could have penetrated into the sample during the preparation process. 3) Thermal conductivity measurement of starch-synthetic polymer composite The thermal conductivity of starch-graft-poly(methylacrylate), which was prepared by ceric ammoniumnitrate-initiated polymerization of methylacrylate onto granular corn starch, was determined at 20-80゚C, 7-35%moisture and 0.2-8 MPa. It was found that the thermal conductivity increases with temperature and moisture content, although the temperature dependency is so small. Also, the thermal conductivity increases with pressure due to the same reason as 2).

We have focused on the development and the optimization of waveguide patterning process in nonlinear optical (NLO) polymer thin film by laser induced thermal poling. In this research, we have elucidated the following subjects. 1) Measurement of the thermal diffusivity of NLO polymer thin film. Thermal properties of NW polymer are an important factor in the thermal poling process. To measure the thermal diffusivity of the nonlinear optical (NW) polymer thin film, we modified the experimental apparatus based on the photoacoustic method. PMMA with DR1 chromosphore side groups was synthesized as an NLO polymer. It was found that the thermal diffusivity is independent on film thickness and percentage of the chromosphore, but increases as the applied electric field increases. Also, the thermal diffusivity of the NLO polymer thin film decreases with temperature. Our apparatus has no capability to measure at high temperature, more than glass transition temperature (about 380K) which gives abruptly change in thermal diffusivity, It is desired to develop another method to measure thermal diffusivity at high temperature. 2) Numerical simulation of laser induced thermal poling process We have constructed three-dimensional simulation code to estimate temperature profile in NW polymer thin) film on thermal poling process. To elucidate optimized condition for uniform polarization profiles, we introduced the temperature dependence of dipole (in NLO molecule) orientation dynamics to our simulation code. Since there is no available model for dipole orientation dynamics, relaxation dynamics model was used. At first, Ar^+ laser (wavelength of 488 nm) was used as light source on simulation. The calculation results showed that smaller diameter of laser beam and slower scanning speed of laser give more uniform polarization profiles. Since absorption spectrum of thin film suggests that He-Ne laser (wavelength of 632 nm) illuminates the thin film more interior than Ar^+ laser, He-Ne laser results in higher and more uniform polarization profiles. It is necessary to measure the dipole orientation dynamics for polymer materials in an electric field.

For the establishment of the novel desalination system in the downstream processing of biochemical products, the following two apparatus using the liquid membrane system were developed in the present work and their characteristics were investigated experimentally. In the design of the apparatus for the desalination, it is important to contact the two kinds of W/O emulsions to extract the cation and anion with the feed solution, preventing the emulsions from contacting each other. Apparatus (1) : The hollow fibers, through which the two kinds of W/O emulsions were separately passed, were put in the stirred cell including the feed solution. Apparatus (2) : The stirred cells including the two kinds of W/O emulsions respectively were separated by the partition through which the feed solution can pass but each emulsion can not. As a result, the apparatus (1) was not available for the desalination system because it is difficult to keep the interface between the emulsion phase and the feed solution in the pore of the hollow fiber adjusting the inner and outer pressures of the fiber. While, in the apparatu (2), it was found that the two stainless steel meshes which were coated by the fluorine-contained polymers and piled at intervals of 5 mm are useful as the partition to separate the emulsions. Also, the collision rate of emulsions to the partition is one of the important factors to control the leakage of the emulsions, and we can accomplish to transfer only the ions by adjusting the dispersion conditions of emulsions and the volume ratio of emultions to that of the feed solution.

Nagashima's groups has proposed a new method to measure diffusion coefficient and viscosity change near melting temperature, which is difficult to measure with conventional methods. This method uses Rayleigh scattering and Brownian motion of fine particles dispersed in melt. The possibility has been demonstrated for molten KNO_3 and NaNO_3. The data showed the difference between the maximum and minimum viscosity increases near the melting temperature reflecting liquid structure change. Ohnaka's group has made clear the growth mechanism of an organic materials-system which has the similar phase diagram of oxide high temperature superconductors, and developed a micro-model, which can simulate the growth phenomena. Further, they have proposed a new mechanism for particle engulfment at the solid/liquid interface. Hayashi's group has developed a kinetic theory considering microstructure and solidification phenomena for non-facetted free dendritic growth in undercooled liquid and also for the growth near a cooled wall accompanying temperature relaxation and solid phase coarsening. The theory was based on their experimental work on the solidification of Bi-Sn alloy. Tsukada's group has revealed the relationship between growth condition (furnace structure and transport phenomena including thermal stress in crystals) and crystal quality especially micro-cracks for oxide single crystal growth by the CZ method. This work in based on numerical simulation and experimental observation of growth of LiNbO_3 single crystal. Finally, Nakayama's group has made it possible to investigate quantitatively the miniaturization of leads required in three dimensional electric circuits. Namely they developed a method to analyze the solidification process of elongating thin molten alloys and validated their method with experimental works. These works have made more clear the necessity of the micro- and macro-modeling and their combination to improve new materials and devices by using various solidification processes, and some new modeling methods have been developed.

Effects of applied magnetic field on convection in melt : Temperature distributions on the melt surface under the conditions with or without magnetic fields were observed by the thermoviewer system. As increasing strength of the applied magnetic field, dominant heat transfer in the melt changed from convective transfer to conductive one. A remote sensing system for convective phenomena under the applied magnetic field conditions was developed. We successfully estimated very weak convection, which could not be observed on the melt surface, by using this method. 2.
