    In AFm, the hydration and valence of anions are considered to be important factors affecting stability. Among the ionized amino acids, cysteine is particularly easy to ion-exchange with selenate in CaAl-based AFm, and the carboxyl group of the amino acid is involved in the formation of Ca-O chemical bonds but is not interacted with Al having a larger valence, which was verified by DFT calculations for the first time. The leaching rate of selenate solidified in the geopolymer increased with increasing Si / Al molar ratio. EXAFS analysis revealed that both selenite and selenate ions remain in the geopolymer by electrostatic interaction rather than chemical bonds.

    Immobilizing matrix for anionic radionuclides were investigated because these ions are mobile and in long half-life. Selenate and selenite were stabilized in hydrocalumite and ettringite. Selenite showed the greater distribution efficiencies than selenite on ettringite. There is a contrast: inner-sphere coordination of the former ions to Ca atoms and outer-sphere coordination of the later to Ca ions in ettringite. The phase transformation from hydrocalumite into ettringite was observed dependently on anionic species. Iodate was well immobilized in ettringite and hydroxyapatite immobilized iodate but not iodide, although both ions have the same charge. Ion-exchange on tertiary ammonium group bearing-surfactant modified clays is only one way to immobilize iodide as well as perrhenate which is used as a surrogate to pertechnetate. Affinity of these anions with the matrix depends on not only ionic sizes and charges but also hydrophilicity.

    Stable energy resource supply is very important for Japan. Then, some researches for recovering the dissolved uranium from seawater progressed in Japan. However, the concentration of uranium in seawater is extremely low (ppb level), therefore, the highly efficient adsorbents capturing ppb-level uranium from seawater was desired. For this, we utilized the hydrogel as a new adsorbent base material for capturing uranium and other target elements. In order to demonstrate the usefulness of the hydrogel, we developed the amidoxime groups or crown ethers incorporated hydrogels and examined the ppb-level target elements capturing efficiency in the presence of other elements. From the experimental results, the potential for this purpose was demonstrated by considerably high adsorption functionality.

    Basic research for constructing rational treatment and disposal system of radioactive wastes generated by Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear accident have been performed in three research fields of characteristic of solid and liquid contaminants, treatments of solid and liquid contaminants, and radioactive waste disposal. As a result, we have obtained many useful data on properties of fuel debris, leaching behavior of nuclides from debris, treatment methods of contaminated water, solidification method of wastes, novel decontamination methods, migration behavior of nuclides in the fields containing salts of high concentrations, and so on. These results are expected to contribute to the management plan of radioactive wastes generated under abnormal conditions in contact with water containing seawater in the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear accident, and to the progress of radioactive waste managements.

    The earlier studies on the uranium recovery from seawater found that an amidoxime group has the highest adsorption capability, and the adsorbent cloth which attached the amidoxime groups on its surface was made. However, the adsorbent efficiency and the cost haven' t yet reached to the practical level. In this study, we have attempted to make the further efficient uranium adsorbent material from seawater by introducing the many amidoxime groups to polymer gels. The progress of amidoximation in the gels was confirmed by NMR and FT-IR. The gels adsorbed almost whole uranium in the solution, and showed high adsorption ability. The amount of adsorption was increased by the more amidoxime groups, and the efficiency of adsorption of uranium was improved by the gel.

    Migration behavior of ions in bentonite is important for safety assessment of radioactive wastes disposal. However it is difficult to carry out migration experiments under reducing condition like real deep geological disposal. Moreover there are some ions which migrate very slowly in bentonite. Thus a special method is needed to obtain migration parameters within reasonable time and appropriate condition. The proposer has developed the electromigration method to obtain migration parameters of ions in bentonite by acceleration of ions. This method can provide stable reducing condition in bentonite. By using this method we obtained diffusion coefficients and dispersion coefficients of ferrous ion, alkali ions and alkali earth ions under the reducing condition.

    Chemical form and diffusion behavior of solid fission products in FBR fuel rods were studied from aspect of reactor safety. In this study, physico-chemical behaviors of Ba and Zr were researched in terms of fuel burn-up. Using EPMA, specimens from high burn-up fuels were analyzed in PIE. (1) Both Ba and Zr were precipitated as the chemical form of BaZrO_3 at high burn-up. At low burn-up, only BaO precipitates were observed in MOX fuels. (2) The composition of Ba-Zr-O precipitated observed at high burn-up was dependent on O/M ratio. (3) The concentration of Ba observed at fuel matrix was high near the cladding. That of Zr was uniformly distributed in fuels. As the result, it was clear that Ba easily diffused in fuel and that Zr could hardly diffuse in it.

    Experiments on the sorption of U(VI) on a biotite were carried out in the atmospheres of air and 1 atm of COィイD22ィエD2 over a wide range of pH to understand the fundamental controls on uranium sorption on biotite minerals. Biotite powder (mesh 32 - 60) were washed with 1N HCl for a week and were rinsed twice with deionized water for a week. This HCl treatment was necessary to avoid the effects by other minerals. The uranium solutions were prepared from ィイD2233ィエD2UOィイD22ィエD2 regent by dissolving into nitric acid and then adjusted at a pH of interest with the initial concentration of 4.8 x 10ィイD1-6ィエD1 M. The concentration of uranium and pH in each solution were measured at regular time intervals before and after adding some biotite powder. The peak Kd values in air and COィイD22ィエD2 were higher than 100 ml/g around pH 6 and approximately 2 ml/g around pH 5, respectively. A comparison of aqueous uranium speciations and sorption results indicates that neutral uranyl hydroxide could be an important species sorbed on the biotite in both atmospheres. Sequential desorption experiments with KCl and nitric acid solutions were also carried out after sorption experiments to investigate sorption forms of uranium. Several percent of uranium in solution was sorbed on the biotite as an exchangeable ion with potassium. The fraction of exchangeable uranium had a little dependence on pH. Approximately 50% of uranium sorbed on the biotite was extracted by 1N of nitric acid. The other uranium could not be extracted even by 1N HNOィイD23ィエD2 solution. It is possible that most of the uranium could be reduced from U(VI) to U(IV) via Fe(II) on the biotite surface after sorption.

    使用済核燃料の再処理時に発生する高レベル放射性廃棄物には未回収の超ウラン元素が含まれるため地質学的年代にわたり生物圏から隔離する必要がある。この方法としてガラスに固化した廃棄物を深地層処分する方法が最も有望である。これは、生物圏からの距離をとるとともに、深部地下での化学環境(低い酸化還元電位)における核種の低い溶解度、岩石への核種の吸着による核種移行の遅延を期待したものである。本研究では、表面状態を特定した黒雲母鉱物へのウランの収着挙動を調べることを目的とした。 花崗岩(韓国産)を粉砕し、メッシュ32〜60に揃え、磁気分離により回収した黒雲母を塩酸、純水で洗浄したものを試料として用いた。吸着及び脱離実験は以下のようにバッチ法により行なった。濃度0.005mMのウラン溶液150mlをポリプロピレン容器に取り、0.01NのHClまたは0.01NのNaOHを用いて溶液のpHを3〜10の所定のpHに調整した。これに0.1gの黒雲母を加え、室温で一週間保持した。試料溶液を取りだし分画分子量10000の限外漉過フィルター用いて漉過し、漉液中のウラン濃度を測定することでウランの黒雲母への吸着量を求めた。次にこの黒雲母と1MKCl,1MHCl,6MHClを逐次接触させ、それぞれの試薬により黒雲母より抽出されたウランの濃度を定量した。 得られた結果は以下の通りであった。 ・黒雲母へのウランの吸着量はpH5.5〜7で大きく、酸性側、アルカリ性側では小さくなる傾向があった。 ・洗浄前のKd値に比べ洗浄後のKd値は約100倍に増加していた。BET比表面積測定の結果、洗浄前のもので0.23m2/g洗浄後のものは洗浄前の値の約100倍の21.5m2/gの値を示した。 ・逐次抽出の結果,洗浄後の試料の大きさ吸着には、イオン交換によるものの寄与は少なく、不可逆な吸着が大部分を占めていた。

    使用済核燃料の再処理時に発生する高レベル放射性廃棄物には未回収の超ウラン元素が含まれるため地質学的年代にわたり生物圏から隔離する必要がある。この方法としてガラスに固化した廃棄物を深地層処分する方法が最も有望である。これは、生物圏からの距離をとるとともに、深部地下での化学環境(低い酸化還元電位)における核種の低い溶解度、岩石への核種の吸着による核種移行の遅延を期待したものである。 本研究では、電気的に地下深部と同じ還元環境を作り、花崗岩構成鉱物へのウランの吸着挙動を調べることを目的とした。 ウランを還元状態にするための方法としてフローク-ロメトリーを用いた。この方法は、炭素繊維を詰めたカラム(電解還元カラム)にウランを含む溶液を透過させ、その炭素繊維と白金電極(別途溶液と接触)間に電位差をかけることによって、透過するウランを連続的に還元する方法である。本研究のために作製した電解還元カラムを用いて、硝酸ウラン溶液(濃度薬0.08mMおよび0.04mM)の電解還元実験を行った。ウランの電解還元反応は下式の様になる。 UO_2^<2+>+2e^-+4H^+=U^<4+>+2H_2O pH1での実験では理論電位-50mVから反応が起こり始め、約-300mVでほぼ100%完了した。流速一定の条件ではウラン濃度に比例した還元電流が得られた。しかし、溶液のpHが上がると還元反応は不安定となり、pH5では安定した還元電流の意地が困難であった。これは、精製した4価のウランが炭素繊維に吸着あるいは水酸化物として沈殿を生じるためと推定された。 溶液のpHが3以下ではウランはほとんど収着しないため、収着実験はpH4以上で行うことが必要である。今回の還元実験においては高pHで安定した還元が行えなかったため還元環境での吸着実験データを得ることはできなかった。また、pHの上昇とともにウランの溶解度も低下するため、本実験で用いたウランの定量方法(フルオリメーター)の測定限界(約1nM)では正確な測定は困難であった。
