In the paper by Hasegawa, Hagino and Tanimura (HHT) [Phys. Lett. B 808 (2020) 135693, arXiv:2006.06944], they concluded that quantum tunneling was simulated by a time-dependent generator coordinate method (TDGCM). In contrast, difficulties of TDGCM in describing quantum tunneling were pointed out by Ono in the paper [Phys. Lett. B 826 (2022) 136931, arXiv:2201.02966]. Recently, HHT submitted a comment [arXiv:2202.00513v1], by which they appear to give some counterarguments to Ono's paper. Here I examine their arguments, reviewing the main points of Ono's paper. The confusion in HHT's arguments may be mostly resolved by recognizing how the wave packets interfere with each other when they are coherently superposed.

The simulation of heavy ion collisions in the Fermi energy region is a challenge for the theoretical models; in particular it is difficult to obtain a coherent description in all the impact parameter range and to reproduce all the experimental observables. In this contribution we will show the very good job done by the dynamical model AMD [1] followed by the statistical code GEMINI [2, 3] as an afterburner. The model is able to reproduce the main characteristics of peripheral and semiperipheral collisions, although some discrepancies still persist.

We performed systematic studies of phenomena and various properties in excited nuclear many-body systems such as those in heavy-ion collisions, employing microscopic dynamical models. Antisymmetrized molecular dynamics (AMD) is mainly employed but useful information was obtained by comparisons with other models. We paid special attention to the effects of equation of state (in particular the symmetry energy in isospin-asymmetric systems) and the cluster correlations. In orderto describe the strong cluster correlations in heavy-ion collisions, we introduced a new theoretical extension into AMD, which enables calculations with much higher reliability.

    1. We developed a new framework of the coupled-channels calculations to evaluate the cross section of heavy-ion fusion reactions at energies around the Coulomb barrier. The new method replaces the.Woods-Saxon potential in the conventional approach by the double folding potential with the M3Y force as the effective nucleon-nucleon interaction. 2. We applied the method to the ^<16>O+^<154>Sm collisions in order to test its validity, and found that the coupled channels calculations including the ground state rotational band of the target nucleus ^<154>Sm reproduce fairly well the experimental data of the fusion excitation function over a wide energy region -including the Coulomb barrier, though some improvements of the theory are required to explain the experimental fusion barrier distribution. 3. We have then examined whether the method is applicable to heavy-ion collisions between heavy nuclei, where the so called extra-push problem is involved. We studied ^<60>Ni+^<154>Sm scattering as an example and found that the calculated barrier transmission cross section well agrees with the experimental data of the total fusion-fission like cross section. 4. It is necessary to develop a theory which can quantitatively describe the process from the inside of the fusion barrier to inside of the fission barrier in order to estimate the fusion cross section between two heavy nuclei such as that for the fusion reactions to synthesize super heavy elements. A diffusion theory has been used as a promising approach to this end under the name of the fluctuation-dissipation dynamics. We have developed a novel quantum diffusion theory by paying attention to the fact that super heavy elements should be synthesized at low temperatures, where a quantum effect due to finite barrier curvature cannot be ignored. Our diffusion equation contains various terms which are absent in the standard diffusion equation by reflecting non-Markovian properties originated from the quantum effects. 5. We applied the quantum diffusion theory to the diffusion process along a potential barrier, and found that while the well known fluctuation dissipation theorem between the diffusion and dissipation coefficients holds at high energies, at low temperatures the deviation from that in the absence of the quantum effect is very different from the known deviation in the diffusion process in a potential well. 6. Through analyses with realistic parameters, we found that both quantum and non-Markpvian effects significantly modify the properties of the diffusion process in synthesizing super heavy elements compared with the results of existing theories.

    1. We showed that the anharmonicity of nuclear surface vibrations strongly influences the fusion barrier distribution by studying the effects of double phonon quadrupole and octupole excitations of ^<144>Sm on the ^<16>O+^<144>Sm fusion reactions at energies below the Coulomb barrier. Using this result, we deduced a negative quadrupole moment for both first excited 2^+ and 3^- states of ^<144>Sm. We performed a similar analysis for the ^<16>O+^<148>Sm fusion reactions. 2. We studied the influence of finite width of excited states on heavy-ion fusion reactions at energies near and below the Coulomb barrier, and showed that the finite width always reduces the enhancement effect of the channel coupling irrespective of the relative importance of the spreading and escape widths. 3. We analyzed the ^<16>O+^<154>Sm, ^<186>W ^<238>U fusion reactions at low energies and showed that.beta_6- deformation, octupole as well as beta and gamma vibrations and 2 nucleon transfer reactions play important roles. 4. We studied the bremsstrahlung in alpha decay and showed that (1) all the contributions from the classical region, tunneling region, mixed region and the wall play important roles (2) the final spectrum is given by their interference and becomes much smaller than the classical value (3) the bremsstrahlung might eliminate the ambiguity in determining the potential between the alpha particle and the daughter nucleus. 5. We showed the existence of a glory-like phenomenon caused by the shadow of a nuclear rainbow in the extremely forward angular region as a novel caustic phenomenon. 6. In addition, we studied (1) isospin dependence of nuclear incompressibility (2) screening effect by bound electrons in extremely low energy nuclear reactions (3) non-adiabatic transition in crossing two-level problems in connection with fission and heavy-ion collisions (4) electron states in metal clusters and (5) fragmentation in medium energy heavy-ion collisions.

This project has been undertaken with the aim to develop theories and analyze data of macroscopic quantum tunneling in nuclear physics, centering on heavy-ion fusion reactions at energies near and below the Coulomb barrier and fission. Also, studies of related subjects such as elastic heavy-ion scattering, heavy-ion collisions induced by unstable nuclei, astrophysical nuclear reactions, nuclear structure in terms of relativistic mean field theory, medium energy heavy-ion collisions and microcluster physics have been undertaken. The main achievements are as follows : Concerning heavy-ion fusion reactions, we clarified the improtance of higher order coupling effects through the coupled-channels analyzes of the ^<64>Ni+92,96Zr and ^<16>O+^<112>Cd, ^<144>Sm fusion reactions, We also showed the important role playd by the anharmonicity in the vibrational coupling by describing the fusion of ^<16>O+^<112>Cd, ^<144>Sm with the interacting boson model. As an important consequence, our study shows that fusion data provide very useful information on anharmonic properties of nuclear vibrational modes of excitation and the sign of deformation of nuclei. Concerning the quantum tunneling in systems with many degrees of freedom, we have shown the importance of the mass renormalization in adiabatic quantum tunneling and developed a dissipation factor method to calculate the rate of fast quantum tunneling by taking the effects of a finite excitation energy of the environmental degrees of freedom. We also developed a method, called the dynamical norm method, which can be applied to quantitatively estimating the tunneling rate for a wide range of non-adiabaticity. As for fission, using ^<234>U as an example and using the dynamical norm method we have shown that the life time of spontaneous fission becomes very short due to the existence of nuclear intrinsic degrees of freedom. We also studied the transition of the fission mechanism from quantum tunneling to thermal decay, and have predicted that the fission width gets significantly reduced by the temperature dependence of the pairing cap energies near the critical temperature for the phase transition from superfluid to normal states of nuclei.
