Thirteen years have passed since the Great East Japan Earthquake and the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant (FDNPP) accident. The lessons learned from the FDNPP accident were that a lack of knowledge about radiation, insufficient information, and inadequate crisis communication led to increased radiation anxiety, reputational damage and disaster-related deaths; however, these issues still remain unsolved. To minimize disaster damage, preventive measures, such as formulating appropriate action plans (including for evacuation) during an emergency, should be implemented in advance. In Japan, the Bousaisi (disaster prevention advisers) qualification system commenced in 2003 and is expected to play an active role in disaster prevention and mitigation activities in local communities. However, the role of Bousaisi in a radiation disaster is not clear. Therefore, in this paper, we aim to clarify the role of Bousaisi in local radiation-related disaster prevention and describe the steps to construct a “Radiation Disaster Prevention and Local Awareness Activity Model.” With the correct knowledge about radiation and by promoting appropriate radiation risk communication, Bousaisi can contribute to preventing disaster-related deaths and reducing reputational damage.

In the areas affected by the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, storytelling has been widely practiced. In this study, we conducted a four-group comparison experiment to examine the learning effects of "TSUNAMI-REAL," a shorttime disaster storytelling program, by changing the duration (long/short) and the format (TSUNAMI-REAL/normal lecture) of the storytelling. The results showed that the following three points: in TSUNAMI-REAL, 1) the amount of information that can be conveyed and the change in the listener's emotions are slightly lower, 2) listeners can more easily feel the reality of the disaster, and 3) listeners can remember more contents that the storyteller considers important than in regular storytelling.

Self-aid and mutual assistance among victims are critical for resolving difficulties in the immediate aftermath of a disaster, but individual facilitative factors for such resolution processes are poorly understood. To identify such individual factors in the background (i.e., disaster damage and demographic) and personality domains considering different types of difficulty and resolution, we analyzed survey data collected in the 3-year aftermath of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami. We first identified major types of difficulty using a cluster analysis of 18 difficulty domains and then explored individual factors that facilitated six types of resolution (self-help, request for help, help from family, help from an acquaintance, help through cooperation, and public assistance) of these difficulty types. We identified general life difficulties and medico-psychological difficulties as two broad types of difficulty; disaster damage contributed to both types, while some personality factors (e.g., neuroticism) exacerbated the latter. Disaster damage hampered self-resolution and forced a reliance on resolution through cooperation or public assistance. On the other hand, some demographic factors, such as being young and living in a three-generation household, facilitated resolution thorough the family. Several personality factors facilitated different types of resolution, primarily of general life difficulties; the problem-solving factor facilitated self-resolution, altruism, or stubbornness resolutions through requests, leadership resolution through acquaintance, and emotion-regulation resolution through public assistance. Our findings are the first to demonstrate the involvement of different individual, particularly personality, factors in survival in the complex social dynamics of this disaster stage. They may contribute to disaster risk mitigation, allowing sophisticated risk evaluation and community resilience building.

<p>The purpose of this study is to assess the usefulness of digital light processing (DLP) projectors as hardware for the presentation of visual stimuli, particularly within experiments that require highly accurate control over presentation durations and/or over the timing of successive visual stimuli. DLP (and liquid crystal displays (LCD)) projectors are commonly used within brain function studies. We used an inexpensive commercially-available DLP projector driven by a light emitting diode (LED) light source (NEC NP-L102WJD) and measured both its onset and offset transients and its response delays. The results indicated that the DLP projector could execute more rapid onset and offset transients than an LCD projector, and that transients were even faster than those of a cathode ray tube (CRT) monitor. The response delays of the DLP projector were larger than those of a CRT monitor, but it was confirmed that the duration of the DLP projector delays were always constant. Accordingly, this study concludes that DLP projectors (specifically ones driven by LED light sources) are sufficiently useful tools for visual experiments that require strict temporal control of stimuli presentations, and that they may even be better than CRT monitors when one considers their future availability and applicability to functional studies of the brain.</p>

This study explored the effects of a comma on the processing of structurally ambiguous Japanese sentences with a semantic bias. A previous study has shown that a comma which is incompatible with an ambiguous sentence's semantic bias affects the processing of the sentence, but the effects of a comma that is compatible with the bias are unclear. In the present study, we examined the role of a comma compatible with the sentence's semantic bias using the self-paced reading method, which enabled us to determine the reading times for the region of the sentence where readers would be expected to solve the ambiguity using semantic information (the "target region"). The results show that a comma significantly increases the reading time of the punctuated word but decreases the reading time in the target region. We concluded that even if the semantic information provided might be sufficient for disambiguation, the insertion of a comma would affect the processing cost of the ambiguity, indicating that readers use both the comma and semantic information in parallel for sentence processing.

This paper reports on an exploratory study of "Zest for Living in disaster" to propose a hypothesis based on a qualitative survey and analysis on the text data of personal interviews with 78 victims of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake disaster. The main results are as follows: 1) Correspondence and handling cases are divided into four categories of Emergency response immediately after a disaster, First response, Recovery response and Common phases. 2) Appropriate response is classified into Personal character, Attitude and habit, Social capital, Individual capability and resources, and Disaster experiences of "Zest for Living in disaster" in the past.

This study investigates how physician attitudes during verbal explanations concerning informed consent and the comprehensibility of the explanations influence understanding, emotions, and decision-making in patients of varying ages. After watching one of four videos providing verbal explanations of informed consent for lumbar puncture, 642 healthy participants were asked to evaluate the videos and undertake a post-explanation comprehension test. The videos varied on two dimensions: more/less comprehensible explanations and friendly/unfriendly physician attitudes. The results of the study indicate that patient understanding is primarily influenced by the comprehensibility of the verbal explanations. However, level of understanding was also affected by physician attitude, which was also the primary factor influencing the patient's emotions during the encounters. The effects on decision-making varied according to age group; for although decision-making in young patients was affected by comprehensibility level, decision-making in middle-aged and older patients was more affected by physician attitude. Both comprehensible explanations and a friendly attitude are crucial for obtaining adequately informed consent.

Children's macroprocessing skills for comprehension of expository text were investigated by focusing on the additive effect of such skills on the readers' working memory (WM) capacity. In Experiment 1, 181 fourth and fifth graders read topic explicit and implicit expository texts. After reading each text, they were asked to recall the topic and other information in the text. In Experiment 2, 617 fourth and fifth graders were randomly assigned to one of three conditions: instructional conditions of either being encouraged to grasp the topic of the text or being encouraged to remember details of the text, or a control condition. Then they read and recalled expository texts. As a whole, children with high scores for macroprocessing skills significantly outperformed children with low scores on the recall tasks. These effects remained after controlling for WM capacity, suggesting that the acquisition of macroprocessing skills may benefit children's reading over and above the effect of differences in their WM capacity. However, the results also indicated that the effects of these skills depended on the text and instructional conditions.

This study identified factors related to the satisfaction with collaborative problem solving efforts and investigated the differential effects of these factors. In Study 1, a total of 240 university students participated in research. The research was a qualitative data analysis of group members' descriptions of their collaborative problem solving experiences. The results suggested that satisfaction was determined by a number of factors, especially changes in self-cognition, changes in others' cognition, and inclusion of the other in the self. In Study 2, the differential effects of each factor related to task conditions were examined. The factor of changes in self-cognition and inclusion of the other in the self influenced satisfaction, regardless of the task condition. In a well-defined task, group and personal performance were increasing members' satisfaction. For an ill-defined task, trust of the other members was increasing members' satisfaction. We concluded that satisfaction with collaborative problem solving was influenced by not only task performance, but also emotional and cognitive factors.

The effects of facilitating mutual interactions and objective evaluations on the member satisfaction in collaborative problem solving were investigated. In Study 1, satisfaction of collaborating members was factor analyzed. Results indicated that satisfaction consisted of three factors: Task performance, Sense of unity with other members, and Positive changes in cognition. In Study 2, we used two tasks, a well-defined task and an ill-defined task, to experimentally identify the types of interactive behaviors that affected satisfaction. Satisfaction was effected by performance-oriented behavior, maintenance-oriented behavior, and objective evaluation. In the well-defined task, satisfaction was particularly effected by performance-oriented behaviors and objective evaluation, whereas in the ill-defined task, it was particularly effected by maintenance-oriented behaviors.

The present study investigated the variety of summaries and the determinants of its goodness. In Experiment 1, subjects were given two stories and asked to write a summary under either of the following two conditions, the referring-text condition in which subjects were allowed to see the original text while writing a summary, and the referring-memory condition in which subjects had to remember the story and summarize it without seeing the original text. Qualitative differences of summaries were found according to conditions, and the varieties of summaries were also observed among subjects. In Experiment 2, subjects were required to evaluate the summaries obtained from Experiment 1. Results showed that the summaries produced in referring-memory condition were evaluated poorer than the summaries in referring-text condition, because they tended to contain inadequate information and a lack of important information. Evaluations were divided concerning some summaries. Finally, four types of strategies of summary production considered to cause a variety of summaries, were proposed and the relationship between the strategies and the goodness of summaries were discussed.

Abe and Muramoto (Part 1. 1985) proposed a notation system which was used for displaying the meaning structure of a narrative story. In this paper, the notation system was applied to the understanding of two short stories. A model of readers' interpretation of a narrative text was incorporated in the notation system. We propose a notation system for displaying the meaning structure of a narrative story. As a first task the basis for representing narrative events and states in memory was investigated by analyzing readers' identifications of types of basic statements and their causal inferences between statements. Results suggested that the notation should contain six types of nodes (statements), three types of directed arcs (possible causal connections), and the embedded 'mental worlds', each of which incorporated the desire, intention, belief, memory, and other mental activities of each of the narrative characters.

コロナ禍で、学生たちが被災地を訪問し被災者との交流を行うことができず、さらに学生たちが教育実践を行う場（学校）も見つかりにくい状況が続いている。そのため、2019年度に実施した、学生たちの被災地訪問による課題発見解決型学習と防災教育実践（東京の公立中学校での実践、3種類の授業）について、その有効性を分析・考察した。災害の記憶や教訓を伝承する上で障害となるのは、受け手側の「リアリティの欠如」と「他人事意識」である。学生たちの多くは震災を直接経験していないが、被災地での実習を行うことによって震災のリアリティを感じることができた。また、復興のための課題を自ら解決する方法を探究することで、震災を自分事として考えるきっかけとなっていた。さらに、学生たちが開発した授業においても、地域に特有の災害（首都直下型地震）に焦点を当てたり、認知バイアスが自分の身近にも起こりうるということをクイズ形式で紹介したりして、生徒に自然災害を自分事として強く意識させる授業となっていた。以上の研究成果を、アジア防災センター主催の第２回ADRCオンラインセミナーにおける講演にて、国際的に発信した。一方で、専門家による防災出前授業の教育効果（持続性と波及）に関しても研究を行った。沿岸部の小学校（6校）と内陸部の小学校（9校）とで比較を行い、防災教育の効果の持続性は限定的であること、沿岸部の学校のほうが内陸部の学校よりも防災意識が高いことを明らかにした。また、防災教育後の行動の積極性には、防災に対する学習意欲、減災に対する自己効力感などが正の影響を、災害に対する恐怖心が負の影響を与えることを明らかにし、論文にまとめた。さらに、コロナ禍の中で実施したICTを利用した防災教育実践3種類の特徴やメリット・デメリットに関して比較検討を行い、国際学会にて報告した。

We conducted an questionnaire survey of 1,250 victims of the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake, the 2018 West Japan Heavy Rain, the 2018 Hokkaido Eastern Iburi Earthquake, the 2019 Typhoon No. 19, and the July 2020 heavy rain. In the survey, the main information gathering means, useful information, information gathering means used for each useful information, achievements of transmission / transfer on SNS, contents transmitted, information means transmitted, experiences and contents troubled by SNS, and the correlation between these actions and personality (information practice ability scale, net vandalism scale, disaster preparedness literacy score, big five) were clarified. In addition, we launched a "social mapping project" to archive inland waters inundation areas using photos of inundation posted on Twitter.

The aim of this study was to develop educational technology for the eight factors of the "power to live with disasters" in order to develop disaster prevention human resources with multifaceted abilities that can respond flexibly and creatively to diverse situations and contexts. Through detailed analysis of the data of the victims of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami disaster, as well as social surveys and laboratory experiments on a wide range of ordinary people, various individual factors, characteristics, and behaviors related to the "power to live" factors were revealed. As for the brain processes of these factor, brain activity during the task and the factor scores were negatively correlated for all four factors analyzed.

今日の防災は、対象とする「災害」を想定可能な単一災害から予測不能な複合災害へ、また対象とする「災害のフェーズ」を発災・応急時対応から復興へ、と視野を拡大しつつある。これに対する防災教育的対応は、多様な状況・文脈に柔軟・創造的に対応することが可能な多面的な力を持った人を育てる発想が必要である。本研究では、申請者らが東日本大震災以来進めてきた災害人間科学研究「災害を生きる力」８因子（気持ちを整える力・問題に対応する力・人を思いやる力・きちんと生活する力・人生を意味付ける力・人をまとめる力・生活を充実させる力・信念を貫く力）を発展させ、その工学的な教育技術開発の学術基盤を整備する。具体的には客観的指標の開発、脳内プロセスの解明、育成の理論的枠組み提案に取り組んでいる。本年度も客観的指標の開発のために多面的な検討を行い、「災害を生きる力」８因子と津波避難行動の関係（学会発表２件）、言語情報の読み取り速度の関係（学会・論文発表）、感謝特性や介入との関係（学会発表２件・論文発表）について発表実績を挙げた他、地域・学校での防災教育現場で、アンケート調査を３件進めている。脳内プロセスの解明についても現実的な文脈における言語理解について実績を挙げ（学会発表３件）、さらにリーダーシップや愛他性を主な対象とした３つの研究について研究倫理委員会に研究計画を申請し、承認を得て実験を開始している。そして生きる力育成の理論的枠組みの提案に向け、中学校における実践（学会・論文発表）、地震予測情報に対する人間・社会対応のあり方（論文発表）や、脳科学の貢献（論文発表）についての総論的提案、より広範な質問紙の活用を目指した短縮版の開発やまた小学校高学年を対象とした小児版の開発を行った。

In this research, we developed and constructed a disaster education class as a new liberal arts subject in university education. We continuously participated in omnibus style classes with collaborating students and investigated what they felt during the class and what their opinions were about the lecture. It was clarified what points should be taken into consideration for class improvement. Next, we practiced the active learning seminar by visiting the disaster area and verified the educational effect. It became clear that students' consciousness and views on learning changed.

We analyzed narratives by survivors of the Great East Japan Earthquake, and revealed that the survivors talked not only events they had experienced, but also their emotions and lessons from the experiences. We also conducted psychological experiments using ‘Inamura no Hi’, which is a disaster education material, and clarified that the plot unit of the story was remembered very well but the description of tsunami was not, and the learning was rather different between Japanese and Chinese. In addition, we designed an educational lecture using disaster episodes, and practiced it.

Among results we obtained in this project there exists a framework that yields instances of certain combinatorial puzzles. To explore such a framework, we focus on certain types of puzzles that ask an assignment of numbers to cells of nxn grids so that it satisfies certain constraints as well as the Latin square condition, that is, each row and column contains all of the numbers in {1, 2,…,n} Our algorithm based on the framework yields automatically puzzle instances whose difficulties to solve can be adjusted by means of puzzle inference rules built into the algorithm. We performed experiments to demonstrate that, as is expected, human solvers tend to solve puzzle instances correctly that are produced with easy inference rules, whereas they tend to fail to solve those produced with sophisticated rules.

他者感情推論に関わるワーキングメモリ容量を測定するためのテストを開発した。他者の発話を次々と聞き発話者の感情を判定・報告しながら、各発話の先頭の単語(または聞いている間に提示される別の単語)を記憶するというものである。発話者の気持ちの報告方法(口頭、筆記、選択式)、個々の発話間の連続性の有無(連続発話が一連のストーリーになっているかいないか)、記憶した単語の報告方法(口頭、筆記、再認)をいろいろと変えて、実施方法として有用性やテストとしての妥当性を調べた結果、以下のことが明らかとなった。 1.発話者の感情の報告方法は、パソコンの画面上に呈示される4つの選択肢の中から選んで反応させる方法(選択式)がよい。口頭報告や筆記報告では、実験参加者による回答の質的なばらつきを統制できない。 2.個々の発話間に連続性があるほうが良い。発話間の連続性がない材料では、共感性を測定する質問紙との相関が出にくい。連続性のある材料では、想像力に関係する尺度と相関が見られた(男性の場合)。女性の場合は相関が見られなかったが、これは、感情的共感に関わる質問紙では女性は社会的望ましさにより全体的に得点が高くなる傾向があるため相関が出にくかったと解釈すれば、このテストはそのような影響を受けにくい優れたテストである可能性が示唆されたものと考えることもできる。 3.記憶した単語の報告方法について、集団での実施の可能性を探って筆記報告や再認(発話を聞いている間にパソコンの画面上に呈示される単語を記憶し、後で再認する)の有効性を調べた。これらについては、発話間の連続性がない材料で実施したため(質問紙との相関は見られなかった)、現時点ではその妥当性や有効性について評価を下すことができない。今後、発話間に連続性のある材料でさらに検討を進めていく。
文章理解および問題解決によって得られた知識の利用可能性を規定する要因について

本年度は、問題解決によって得られた知識がどのような場合に応用可能となるのか(すなわち、学習の転移が生ずるのか)を調べるため、中学1年生(207名)を対象として実験を行った。本研究で注目したのは、学習後に学習によって得た教訓を書き留める活動(教訓帰納)と、問題解決過程で問題状況を図に描いたり見通しを立てたりする活動(モニタリング)の効果である。実験では、被験者にある物理法則に関する問題を解かせて学習をさせ、その後、挿入課題(被験者の帰納的推論能力を測る課題)をはさんで、同じ物理法則に関する別の問題(応用問題)を解かせた。その際、学習後に教訓帰納を行う群と行わない群、および応用問題の解決過程でモニタリングを行う群と行わない群を設け、応用問題の成績に違いがあるかどうかを調べた。その結果、被験者の帰納的推論能力によって2つの活動の効果が異なり、帰納的推論能力の高い子どもは教訓帰納とモニタリングの両方を行うことにより学習の転移が相乗的に促進されるが、帰納的推論能力の低い子どもは両方を行ってもそのような相乗効果が現れないことが明らかとなった。前年度と本年度の研究成果は、2本の論文としてまとめられ、現在、科学研究費補助金研究成果報告書として印刷中であると同時に、学会誌に投稿予定である。また、来年度の学会で発表予定である。

This research project aimed at clarifying the human cognitive processes of comprehension, memory, and production of text and discourse. Especially, in this project, we pursued the psychological principles of anaphora resolution and text summarization, because that the anaphora resolution is necessary to grasp the coherent relationship among sentences in a text and the summarization needs all the cognitive activities of understanding, memory, and production of text. As a result of the project, we found out several factors affecting anaphora resolution. The factors include those in such different levels as syntactic, semantic, thematic, and pragmatic. We also found out that the summarization process consists of three cognitive sub-processes, i.e., the construction process of meaning representation of text, the determination process of the gist information of the meaning representation, and the production process of the surface expression of the gist information.

本研究では、文章理解におけるメンタモデルの生成過程の特徴と、その結果として得られる知識の利用可能性を明らかにするために、以下のような実験を行った。まず、被験者にある抽象文(Dunker(1945)の「放射線問題」の解の抽象原理にあたるもの)を与えて、それを具体的な場面を考えながら自由に理解するように求めた。なお、被験者の理解時の思考内容は発話思考法によってテープに録音した。その後に、当該の文章とは無関係の実験を装って「放射線問題」を解かせた。その結果、被験者の抽象文の理解プロセスは、大別して、(a)文章の抽象概念から1つまたは複数の具体例を生成し、それらを一般化したり比較検討したりした後、さらに別の具体例へ発展させる、(b)文章の抽象概念から1つまたは複数の具体例を生成し、それらを一般化したり比較検討したりするが、そこからさらに別の例へは発展させない、(c)1つまたは複数の具体例を生成するが、断片的でそれらの間のつながりがみられない、の3つのパターンに分類できることがわかった。また、文章理解後の「放射線問題」の成績は、(a)のパターンで理解した被験者が最もすぐれていた。すなわち、″使える″知識(異なる文脈においても有効に利用できる知識)を獲得するためには、まず学習内容を自分なりに具体化し、次にそれを自分自身で抽象化してまとめ、さらに別の例で再び具体化することが重要であることが明らかとなった。さらに、この実験に続いて行った実験で、被験者が実験者から教示によってそのような理解プロセスを強制された時にも効果があるのかどうか(放射線問題の成績が向上するかどうか)を調べたところ、実験者から教示された場合には効果がないことがわかった。したがって、″使える″知識は、(a)パターンの理解プロセスを被験者が自発的に行う場合に限り、獲得されることが明らかとなった。

1.わかっているのだがうまく説明ができないというある大学生の事例について考察し、日本心理学会第59回大会のワークショップ「説明分の産出とその認知的側面」において指定討論者としてその報告を行った。 2.さまざまな分野の用語を200語選定し、それぞれに対する熟知感測定と用語の口頭説明の実験を行った。その結果、 (1)用語の説明においては、その定義とでも言うべき主要部の他に、言い換え(これは要するに〜のことである。)、領域限定(これは〜という領域で使われることばである。)、上位概念(これは〜の1つである。)、具体例(具体的には〜や〜などがある。)、反対概念(これは〜とは違って、)、および補足情報などが含まれうることが明らかとなった。そして、実際の説明は、これらの組み合わせで構成されることが明らかとなった。組み合わせのされ方は多種多様だが、(a)言い換えや上位概念、領域限定についての言及は、ほとんどの場合、説明の最初に出現する、(b)主要部の定義内容が曖昧だと補足情報が出現しやすい、というような傾向が明らかとなった。 (2)概念の熟知感と説明の仕方の関係については、一般的には熟知感が高い概念ほど主要部の定義内容が明確で、具体例や補足情報も多く出現する傾向があり、熟知感が低い概念はしばしば主要部がないケースも認められた。しかし、熟知感が高いにも関わらず主要部がなく、具体例しか述べられていない場合もあり、その理由についてはさらに詳細な分析を行っていく必要がある。 (3)説明の仕方と説明の良さ・わかりやすさの関係については、現在実験進行中である。
