    A super absorbent polymer has attracted attention as a technology for quick removal of weak disaster soil from the disaster site. While the removed soil should be modified and reused as a ground material by the Fiber-cement stabilized soil method, there is a concern that super absorbent polymer therein deteriorates the durability of the modified soil by absorbing and expanding. In this study, the authors quantified the effect of bonding with ferric ion on the absorption capacity of the super absorbent polymer. Additionally, the durability of the modified soil was verified by a cyclic test for drying and wetting. From the test results, it was confirmed that the super absorbent polymer contained in the modified soil can deteriorate the durability of the soil by absorbing and swelling. Besides, it was clear that the water absorption can be suppressed by bonding with ferric ion to prevent the deterioration of the modified soil.

     Slope measurement system of negative pore-water pressure using wireless sensor network was developed and the details of the measurement system were described in this paper. Long-term performances of the developed measurement system by in-situ and laboratory experiments were verified and problems of the long-term measurement using the wireless measurement system were described based on the measurement data. The problems on batteries of wireless nodes, tensiometers and so on were discussed based on the measurement results. The problems on resistance to climatic condition of the devices were explored by in-situ and laboratory experiments and improvement plans were also discussed.

    In Japan, dehydrated cake discharged from crushed stone quarry is still disposed. To make it possible to recycle a large amount of dehydrated cake, we focused on a high temperature heating production method for recycling construction waste as concrete aggregates, we have been produced coarse aggregates for concrete by using dehydrated cake discharged from crushed stone quarry and investigated their performances. However, to produce dehydrated cake coarse aggregates, we had decided appropriate heating conditions, i.e., temperature and time of dehydrated cake granulated materials through high temperature heating test with different heating conditions. By the trial and error method, since the kinds of dehydrated cake differ depending on the kinds of crushed stone, working efficiency to produce dehydrated cake coarse aggregates decreases.<br> To improve the working efficiency, the objective of this study is to develop an estimation model of heat melting temperature (temperature keeping time: 30 min) of dehydrated cake discharged from crushed stone quarry based on its chemical composition by x-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF). First of all, several kinds of dehydrated cake discharged from crushed stone quarry in the Tohoku region were used and the range of heating temperature and heating time to produce dehydrated cake granulated materials were indicated through high temperature heating test. Next, the performances of melted granulated materials were evaluated and strength properties of concrete using the melted ones was measured. As a result, it was clear that the melted granulated materials can be used as coarse aggregates for concrete. Finally, based on the above results, estimation model of heat melting temperature of dehydrated cake discharged from crushed stone quarry was developed by using neural network back propagation. It was found that the estimated all results were good agreement with the measurement ones.

    <p>Geopolymer, an environmentally friendly alternative to ordinary Portland cement, is currently receiving increased attention in academic and industrial communities for its ability to produce fly ash based geopolymer material in several applications. Geopolymer material is known as an inorganic-polymer composite and is synthesized by the aluminosilicate compound materials with alkali hydroxide and alkali silicate. Current researches on geopolymer are mainly focused on geopolymer concrete properties such as mechanical properties, paste properties and durability properties in laboratory. However, few specific publications are available concerning the feasibility of geopolymer modified soft soil (sludge) in the actual landslide area which is mainly due to earthquake and heavy rainfall. This paper presents the details of studies carried out on strength of sludge improved with various geopolymer contents. The composition of sludge is 60% silt, 40% clay and water content is 70%. Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) 12 Molar and sodium silicate solution (Na2SiO3) were prepared. The test specimens were made of 50 x 100 mm cylindrical mold and 20oC temperature curing condition. By adding paper debris, the specimens were made immediately after mixing by compaction, in contrast without adding paper debris, after 24 hours the specimens were made with same conditions to compare. Compressive strength after 12 and 18 hours was measured. The results showed that the modified soil with paper satisfied the target (125kN/m2) with geopolymer content nearly 9% after 12 hours and all of them obtained enough strength after 18 hours. Moreover, modified soil without paper reached target after 12 and 18 hours but revealed lower strain performance.</p>

    <p>As the results of dredging activities, a huge amount of sludge has been generated. And one of recycling methods for the sludge has been developed by using paper debris and cement. This is called "Fiber-cement-stabilized soils method" (FCSS). The modified-sludge produced by this method has several features such as high failure strength, high failure strain, and high durability. However, it is almost difficult to apply this method directly for the dredged sludge in Mekong delta, because it is hard to obtain a large amount of paper debris. By the way, a large amount of agricultural wastes are discharged, especially in the case of rice husk in Mekong delta. If the rice husk (RH) can be used instead of paper debris, it will be possible to recycle the dredged sludge in Mekong delta by FCSS. Moreover, FCSS is generally carried out by compaction method. However, compaction method cannot be used in some constructions such as backfilling. In these cases, placing method is generally used and one of recycling methods that applied placing type is Liquefied-Stabilized Soil Method (LSS). In this method, high flowability and low bleeding rate materials are made by adding the cement and water with excavated soil. LSS is possible to simplify construction sequence because LSS flows like concrete mortal and compaction is not necessary. However, LSS method showed some disadvantages such as low durability for drying and wetting conditions. In this study, several specimens were made by using rice husk with FCSS and LSS, and unconfined compression tests were carried out. It was confirmed that rice husk can be used as a substitute of paper debris in FCSS and LSS. Furthermore, empirical equations were obtained as a function of initial water content of the sludge to estimate the optimum additive amount of rice husk and cement for both compaction and placing types.</p>

    On March 11, 2011, a very big earthquake occurred in the Tohoku district in Japan. As a result, a large amount of tsunami sludge was generated and radiation contamination due to Fukushima nuclear disaster also became a serious problem. Therefore, it became necessary to be stored the radioactive pollutant at temporary storehouses after the decontamination of the radiation-contaminated waste and soil. However, the embankment made of ordinary soils had low strength property due to rainfall and low quake-resistant ability; the rainwater seepage control sheets were also affected by the ultraviolet light. Therefore, further improvements on these solutions were required. In this study, we focused on the application of Fiber-cement-stabilized soil method to the cover soil for radiation-contaminated soil. Moreover, the setting method of optimum conditions for creating Fiber-cement-stabilized soil made of tsunami sludge was developed based on the compaction characteristics of the tsunami sludge. The advantage of the developed method was validated by laboratory soil test. As a result, the developed method was useful for easily-setting the optimum condition for creating the Fiber-cement-stabilized soil by recycling the tsunami sludge.

To ensure the safety of living environments, it became necessary to decontaminate the radiation-contaminated waste and soil, and for the radioactive pollutant to be stored at temporary storehouses. However, because ordinary cover soil or sheets deteriorate under rainfall or ultraviolet light, further improvement of this system was required. This study focused on the "Fiber-cement-stabilized soil method". This method is a new recycling method for high water content mud such as construction sludge by using paper debris and cement. Thus, if the cover soil for radiation-contaminated soil could be produced from the tsunami sludge, we could make effective use of the tsunami sludge and store the radiation-contaminated soil securely. The cover soil requires high failure strength, high durability for drying and wetting, high durability for erosion by rainfall and low permeability. To evaluate the durability of the cover soil made of tsunami sludge against erosion by rainfall, the indoor artificial rainfall test and the outdoor test under natural rainfall were carried out. As a result, it was confirmed that the durability of Fiber-cement-stabilized soil against erosion by rainfall was very high.

    It is already confirmed that Fiber-cement-stabilized soil is the best for the ground material because this soil has several features. However,in order to use this soil as cover soil for radiological contaminated soils in Fukushima Prefecture, the investigation on durability for erosion is indispensable. Therefore, the durability for erosion of fiber-cement-stabilized soil using tsunami sludge was experimentally investigated in this study. The experiment was carried out by using the submerged water jet erosion test apparatus manufactured according to Hanson et al. The critical shear stress for erosion and erodibility coefficient were measured. It was confirmed that the durability for erosion of fiber-cement-stabilized soil is much larger than the one of normal soil.

    On March 11 in 2011, a very big earthquake occurred in Tohoku district in Japan. Huge tsunami was generated by this earthquake. Many houses were destroyed by tsunami and a large amount of rubble was generated. At the same time, a large amount of tsunami sludge deposited on land. If the high quality ground materials and cover soils can be produced from waste woods and tsunami sludge, it can be considered that the restoration and reconstruction in the disaster areas will progress greatly. In this study, the mixtures of wood chips and tsunami sludge were modified by Fiber-cement-stabilized soil method, and the strength characteristics of modified soils were experimentally investigated. Furthermore, durability for drying and wetting were investigated in order to use the modified soils as cover soils for radiological contaminated excavated soils in Fukushima Prefecture. It was found through the experiments that modified soils have enough failure strength, failure strain and durability for drying and wetting, and can be used as ground materials or cover soils.

    Recently, on-site recycling method used mobile crusher has been receiving considerable attention. As the function of the mobile crusher is to crush the concrete blocks and to use the fragments as the aggregates at the construction sites, the machine needs to have an ability to crush the concrete blocks to the target particle sizes. However, many parameters of the machine such as the discharge width and rotation number affect the crushing performance. So the effect of these parameters on the crushing performance is not cleared. In this paper, the simulation model by using Distinct Element Method (DEM) to predict the crushing performance of the mobile crusher was developed, and then the effect of several parameters on the crushing performance was analyzed by using Principal Component Analysis (PCA), which is one of multivariate analysis technique.

    In order to robotize construction machinery like a bulldozer, it is significant to investigate the relationship between the resistive forces acting on an excavating blade and the soil strength parameters, i.e., the cohesion and the angle of internal friction. In this paper, a method to estimate the soil strength parameters from the resistive forces acting on an excavating blade was examined from the results of two experiments, that is, direct shear test and soil-excavation test using a flat blade that resemble bulldozer parts. It was confirmed that each soil had their unique relationship between the soil strength parameters and the resistive forces acting on the excavating blade.

    Tsunami sludge was improved by Fiber-cement-stabilized soil method which we developed to increase the recycling rate of construction sludge, and high functional ground materials were made. By using the modified soils, an construction to create the artificial ground was carried out. It was confirmed through the construction that creation of artificial ground was possible even if a large amount of wasted wood chips was included in Tsunami sludge. Furthermore, a fundamental study to use modified soils as cover soils for radiological contaminated soils was carried out. In this study, low permeability as one of the functions for which the cover soils are required. In result, necessary conditions to satisfy the target value for permeability were made clear.

    Fiber-cement-stabilized soil method is an effective way to recycle high-water content mud. The modified soil has several advantages such as high failure stress and high failure strain. However, the quality of the modified soil is not constant and depends on the water content of the mud and additives. Therefore, experimental verification to obtain the strength characteristics of the modified soil is necessary, but conducting experiments under various conditions is ineffective and uneconomic. In this study, a numerical model to estimate deformation-strength characteristics of the modified soil is investigated by using Distinct Element Method (DEM). It was shown that the developed model was effective way to estimate deformation-strength characteristics. Moreover, it was confirmed that the modified soil had high earthquake resistance.

    In Japan, slope disaster frequently occurs during rainy season, thus it is very important to construct a warning system to predict possibility of slope failure due to rainfall. The purpose of this research is to construct such the system using real time field measured data, in-situ tests, laboratory tests, and numerical models. We have established a field monitoring system to measure rainfall intensity, pore-water pressure, temperature, etc., on a slope behind an important cultural asset in Kyoto City since July 2004. Ground displacement has also been measured since May 2006 using optical fiber sensors (B-OTDR) , and additional measuring points were implemented in order to investigate more details of water behavior in the study slope. In this paper, outline of the above warning system and the field monitoring system are explained, and the in-situ seepage behavior is considered based on the field measurement data. Monitoring results of ground displacement during rainfall in March 2008 are also presented, and the influences of rainfall on the ground displacement are also discussed. Finally, the indoor and outdoor test results of the wireless sensor network system, which employed multipoint monitoring, is examined through this paper.

    In this paper, we focus our attention on relationship between water behavior in soil and variation of ground temperature due to rainfall and solar radiation. A new method was proposed to evaluate the water behavior in unsaturated soil based on the ground temperature measurement results. The modeling test for seepage behavior was also conducted to validate the proposed model. Results obtained from this paper show that using this approach, a new relationship that described the status of &ldquo;Heat-Soil moisture characteristic curve&rdquo; can be found. By using the developed technique, the time and the value when pore-water pressure was increased greatly was in good agreement with experiment.

    &nbsp;&nbsp;A new evaluation method of a risk of slope failure during rainfall is proposed in this paper. In the new evaluation method, Principal component analysis (PCA) is employed, and the field measurement data (rainfall, pore-water pressure, ground displacement) are used as input parameter. Then, the effectiveness of proposing &ldquo;principal component score (PCS)&rdquo; as an evaluation index is investigated. As a result, PCS can be directly reflected rainfall intensity, water behavior in soil and ground displacement; and therefore it can be configured more concrete timing of dictating to evacuate and to release. Moreover, the soil tank test was also conducted, it was shown that the proposed method was the effective evaluation one.

    The purpose of our research is to construct a prevention system in order to defend a lot of lives, infrastructures and heritages from slope disasters due to rainfall by using field measured data in real time, in-situ tests, laboratory tests, and numerical models. We have set up a filed monitoring system on the slope behind a structure, which is an important cultural asset in July 2004, and pore-water pressure, temperature and rainfall intensity are measured. In this paper, the outline of the slope disaster prevention system is explained. And, the filed monitoring system is introduced, and the seepage behavior of in-situ is considered based on the measuring data. As the result, the relationship between seepage behavior in unsaturated soil and rainfall intensity are obtained. And, the effectiveness of the filed monitoring system for natural disasters due to slope failures caused by heavy rainfall is examined.

    Unmanned construction is required for sediment disaster reconstruction work, and thus understanding a ground strength is significant to improve the work efficiency. To develop a ground strength estimation method using an excavator bucket, the present study investigated bucket excavation of soil mixed with gravel, which has been overlooked in terramechanics research dealing with mechanical interaction between soil and construction machinery. Specifically, this study clarified the effects of gravel on the relationship between soil failure patterns and change in excavating resistive force by bucket and ground strength through two-and three-dimensional and X-ray CT excavation tests and low confining pressure typed box shear tests. In addition, this study proposed a method for estimating shear strength parameters using the resistive force acting on the bucket.

    In this research, the relationships between volumetric water content and evaporation efficiency β of unsaturated sandy soil were discussed based on experimental results. Firstly, the improved experiment method for the moisture exchange speed was proposed, the evaporation efficiency of unsaturated soil were obtained. The characteristics of evaporation efficiency were detail explained. Comparing with the conventional experimental method proposed by Kondo et al. and our proposed experimental method, the effect of the volumetric heat capacity for evaporation efficiency could be observed. A concept model for evaporation efficiency was also proposed. The parameter for evaporation efficiency can be derived from the proposed model using the grain size distribution and void ration. Then, the validity of the concept model was checked comparing with calculation results and experimental results. Finally, the improvements of the concept model were discussed.

    In this study, a new mechanism to reduce the soil adhesion on the excavating bucket was proposed. In order to reduce the soil adhesion, the water seeps out from many holes of bucket surface through porous media because it was confirmed that the water film formed between soils and the surface of materials reduced the soil adhesion. It was found that the minimum water addition was 0.05g/cm2 for clay soil. Furthermore, it was confirmed through several experiments that the minimum water addition was 0.06g/cm2 regardless of the soils.

    Generally, a large amount of sludge is generated in the disaster sites, and usually this sludge becomes an obstacle for prompt restoration. In this study, a continuous sludge recycling system was proposed to contribute the prompt restoration of disaster sites. This system can recycle the sludge in the disaster sites and produce the high quality ground materials. In this study, several elements technologies of the system were investigated and then a machine model of continuous sludge improvement was made. By using this model, the usefulness of proposed system in this study was experimentally investigated.

    1.蒸発量の推定 今年度は,バルク式に基づいた推定方法について室内モデル土槽による簡易試験で検討した。特に,バルク式に用いるための未知パラメータ(交換速度と蒸発効率)の算定に対する課題を明確化し,その課題に対して改良を試みた。その結果,改良法を用いたほうが任意の含水量に対する蒸発効率の変化傾向にばらつきが生じにくいことが確認できた。そして,既往の成果と同様の傾向を示すことも確認できた。さらに,改良法をもとにした蒸発量の推定方法を新たに提案できる可能性もあることが分かった。この方法を用いて室内土槽試験を実施した結果,蒸発量の計算結果は計測結果と良い整合性を示した。 2.人工降雨装置による室内土槽試験結果と数値シミュレーション結果の比較・検討 今年度は降雨に対する斜面崩壊予知システムの構築を目指し,プログラムを作成して試験結果と計算結果を比較検討した。なお,プログラムは現在も改良中である。そして,土質力学的な観点と並行して統計学的手法(主成分分析,ニューラルネットワーク)を用いた崩壊危険度評価に対して考察を深めた。統計学的手法は,室内土槽試験のみに限らず現地斜面(重要文化財後背斜面)で得られた計測結果を用いてリアルタイムに崩壊危険度を評価し,本手法の有効性を検討した。 以上の研究成果として,「項目1」については学会発表(地盤工学会)と論文(応用力学論文集)として報告する予定である。また,「項目2」についてはシンポジウム(地盤工学会)と論文(土木学会論文集)で報告している。
