    Abstract High-entropy alloys (HEAs) have attracted considerable attention to improve performance of various electrocatalyst materials. A comprehensive understanding of the relationship between surface atomic-level structures and catalytic properties is essential to boost the development of novel catalysts. In this study, we propose an experimental study platform that enables the vacuum synthesis of atomic-level-controlled single-crystal high-entropy alloy surfaces and evaluates their catalytic properties. The platform provides essential information that is crucial for the microstructural fundamentals of electrocatalysis, i.e., the detailed relationship between multi-component alloy surface microstructures and their catalytic properties. Nanometre-thick epitaxially stacking layers of Pt and equi-atomic-ratio Cr-Mn-Fe-Co-Ni, the so-called Cantor alloy, were synthesised on low-index single-crystal Pt substrates (Pt/Cr-Mn-Fe-Co-Ni/Pt(hkl)) as a Pt-based single-crystal alloy surface model for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) electrocatalysis. The usefulness of the platform was demonstrated by showing the outperforming oxygen reduction reaction properties of high-entropy alloy surfaces when compared to Pt-Co binary surfaces.

    Oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) proceeds at the cathode of polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEFC). Currently, Pt nanoparticle supported on carbon black (Pt/C) catalysts is widely used for accelerating the ORR rates. In this study, to clarify the effect of the interactions between Pt nanoparticles and carbon supports, we investigated the ORR properties of Pt supported on multilayer graphene and on defect-induced graphene models.

    Polarization modulation IR spectroscopy has been applied to the observation of orientation change of octadecyl-methacrylate (ODMA) molecules in L-B films in photo-polymerization. The absorption bands in the IR reflection spectra changed in intensity as well as in peak position upon UV irradiation in N2 atmosphere. From the comparison of the observed reflection spectrum to that calculated of isotropic film, it is deduced that whereas the orientation of methacryl residue of ODMA changes upon photo-induced polymerization, the long chain of alkyl group remains nearly unchanged in orientation.

    本研究では、固体高分子形燃料電池(PEFC)のアノードで進行する水素酸化反応(HOR)や過酸化水素(H2O2)の生成メカニズムを、構造の規定されたIr系合金単結晶表面を超高真空中で物理構築・モデル触媒化して検討する。その上で、アノード触媒開発に不可欠な表面構造を現状用いられているPtやPt基合金表面系を含めて原子レベルで明確にする。この課題解決に向けて、我々がこれまで培ってきた世界的にも唯一無二の超高真空中における良く規定された金属・合金表面系の物理構築技術を最大化して取り組む。 R3年度に得られた純Ir単結晶の基本低指数面(111),(110),(100)が発現するHOR活性とH2O2生成特性に関する評価結果に基づいて、R4年度にはIr(111)単結晶基板表面上に、Ruを基板温度を制御して真空堆積して作製したIr-Ru(111)モデル触媒表面系を構築し、アノード触媒特性を検討した。まず、低速イオン散乱分光法を用いて試料最表面のRu / Ir原子組成比を求めたところ、組成比は試料作製時の熱処理温度(基板温度)に敏感であり、それぞれRu:Ir=1:1 (673 K), 1:2 (773 K), 1:4 (873 K)であることがわかった。その上でHOR活性を評価検討したところ、HORは最表面のIr2 や Ir3アンサンブルサイトが担うことがわかった。一方H2O2生成特性を評価すると、Ru単結晶(0001)面では活発に生成するのに対して、Ir-Ru(111)ではSECMの検出限界以下であり、最表面IrサイトがH2O2生成抑制に寄与することが明らかとなった。R5年度には、Pt表面に対してWO3を表面に助触媒として添加することによりH2O2生成が抑制されることが明らかとなり、その機構を検討した。また、多結晶電極における表面結晶粒ごとの触媒特性の検討にも着手した。

    Pt-Au alloy and Pt-shell Au-core core-shell nanoparticles (NPs) show superior durability as the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalysts for polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEFC). However, the relation between surface atomic ratio and structural stability of the Pt-Au NPs under applying electrochemical potential cycling (PC) has yet to be further elucidated. In this study, Pt-Au NPs are synthesized by using arc-plasma deposition (APD) method onto highly-oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) substrate in ultra-high vacuum. Then, ORR activities and electrochemical structural stabilities of the APD Pt-Au NPs are discussed.

    Molecular behaviors of several molecules, e.g., energy carrier molecules, organic hydrides, alcohol, carbon dioxide on electrode surfaces are important subjects for future energy systems and, therefore, developments of effective electro-catalysts with suitable surface atomic arrangements and compositions are required. In this study, well-defined model catalysts (X/M(hkl)) are fabricated through molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) of alloying elements X on the low-index single crystal surfaces of Pt and Au (M(hkl); M=Pt, Au)). Then, surface structural analysis, electrochemical measurements are performed for the prepared X/M(hkl) model catalysts and discussed the relation between surface atomic arrangements, alloy compositions and catalytic properties.

    Atomic design of alloy's outermost surfaces is a key to achieve high activity and stability of cathode electrode catalysts for oxygen reduction reaction in fuel cells. Therefore, precise control of atomic arrangements of electrode material surfaces is indispensable. In this study, we fabricate well-defined surface alloys by using molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) through Pt- and Ni-depositions, respectively, onto Au and Pd single-crystal substrates and evaluate electrochemical properties, particularly oxygen reduction reaction activities, of the model catalysts.

    Precise and tunable control in electronic states of the metal surface should be directly linked to a novel catalytic reaction. Metal-insulator-metal (MIM)tunnel junction, which generates monochromatic hot-electrons under bias-voltage, would be one of the suitable devices for the hot-electron generation. The aim of this study is to clarify the tunnel junction surface works as a promoter of the surface reaction of the adsorbed molecules. We investigate the hot-electron-induced surface reaction of p-and o-nitrobenzoic acid (PNBA, ONBA)on the Ag(Au)top electrode of the Ag(Au)/AlOx/Al tunnel junction by using surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). The results show that the hot-electron generated under positive-bias voltage can induce reductive coupling reaction of the adsorbed molecules to generate azodibenzoate at the top electrode surface through surface plasmon polariton (SPP)resonance.

    1.Infrared absorption spectral measurements have been performed at normal incidence of radiation on octadecanethiol (ODT) deposited from ethanol-water mixed solutions onto colloidal silver particles (ca. 30 nm in diameter) on Si(111) substrates. The spectra taken as a function of silver mass thickness and ODT concentration. indicate that the absorption bands of ODT are enhanced in intensity in comparison to the case in which no silver particles are present. It is also found that regardless of ODT concentration each absorption band reaches a maximum in intensity at a particular mass thickness of the particles, suggesting an intimate relationship between the absorption enhancement and the aggregation of the particles. This indeed was supported by FE-SEM morphological inspection of the particles. 2.Aggregation of silver colloidal particles in the hydrosol through chemisorption of ODT molecules has been investigated on the basis of UV-visible transmission and infrared attenuated total reflection (ATR) experiments. As-prepared silver sol showed a single absorption peak centered at 395 nm due to plasma resonance of the particles. Upon addition of ODT-dissolved ethanol to the sol, the plasma resonance peak showed a redshift accompanying a broadening, an indication of the aggregation of the particles in the solution by ODT adsorption. By use of infrared ATR spectroscopy, it was found that the particles in the solution aggregate on the base plane of a germanium ATR prism upon addition of ODT-dissolved ethanol to the solution. At moderate ODT concentrations, intense aggregation via ODT adsorption takes place on the prism surface, thus making it possible to observe ODT absorption bands. 3.Raman scattering from the adsorbed species on the colloidal particles after dropping on Si substrates has been taken using a He-Ne laser (632.8 nm) in order to more clarify the influence of ionic species produced during preparation of the colloidal silver sol upon aggregation of the particles after dropping the particles on the silicon substrate. A Raman band due to nitrate ion was observed. This band almost disappeared by immersing the deposited silicon substrate into pure water far 1 hour. However ; the nitrate band was observed more strongly after immersion of the substrate into the water for 5 hours. This increase of Raman scattering intensity can be explained by assuming that the environmental nitrate ions were diluted or adsorbed nitrate ions were desorbed more or less by the water and thereby aggregation of the silver colloid particles proceeded, leading to an increase of the so-called SERS active sites. Actually, no Raman bands due to ODT could be observed when the deposited silicon substrate was subsequently immersed into ODT-dissolved ethanol This maybe explained by assuming that the SERS active sites were occupied by nitrate ions.

    In this study, we aimed to establish a new method for pinning of sample molecules to the substrate surface and to detect faint signals due to the mono-layer sample with surface-enhanced vibrational spectroscopies. The results obtained are summarized as follows. 1.Multiple IR ATR (attenuated total reflection) measurements indicate that hydrogen bond between the substrate"poly-vinyl alcohol (PVA)"and sample"adenosine"molecules. We have attempted to pinning adenosine molecules to the PVA thin film surface formed on the Si substrate by using a brass-made"transfer roller". Surface enhanced Raman spectral (SERS) study indicates that adenosine molecules can be pinned from the transfer roller onto the PVA surface through the hydrogen bond. The optimum condition for the pinning molecules to the substrate is yet to be elucidated. 2.We have proposed another method for pinning of sample molecules, namely"pressure-attachment"(PA) method. In the PA method, Ag island films (5nm in thickness) are evaporated on glass plate and powder of the sample molecule is dispersed onto the Ag island films with spatula. After air-blowing excess powder, we applied pressure on the glass plate covered the molecule-dispersed Ag island films. Para-nitro benzoic acid (PNBA) was adsorbed on the Ag islands film surface through ionization and the SERS signals of ionized PNBA increased in intensity from the applying pressure of 0 to 0.6 MPa In contrast, the SERS signals due to adenosine adsorbed on the Ag islands surface remained nearly unchanged during applying pressure. The results obtained suggest that pinning of molecules by the PA method depends upon the affinity between the molecule and the substrate surface.

    When a sufficiently strong voltage but not beyond the metal work function is applied across an Al/AlO_x/Ag junction, the so-called "hot-electron" whose energy is higher than the Fermi level can be generated. In this study, we aimed to establish the method of fabrication of Al/AlO_x/Ag junctions and to obtain basic knowledge concerning the behavior of hot electrons at the interface between the tunnel junction and the porous-Si substrate through measurements of the I-V curve. Further, the change in chemical species on Ag electrode surface during a bias voltage was applied across the junction was investigated with IR reflection absorption spectroscopy. The results obtained are summarized as follows. (1)A matter of the utmost importance in preparation of the Al/AlO_x/Ag tunnel junction is to establish the oxidation conditions of Al thin film electrode. The oxidation of the Al electrode at 280℃, 2 hours in oxygen (1 atm) atmosphere, or at 450℃, several minutes in air was suitable to obtain the junction. (2)Under irradiation of 441.6nm He-Cd laser (80mW), a remarkable increase in the tunnel current was observed for the junction formed on porous-Si substrate, whereas the junction formed on glass substrate showed no change in the tunnel current even though the same irradiation conditions were employed. The band-gap of the porous-Si used in the present study was about 1.6 eV and hence the photo-voltage generated at the porous-Is might influence the tunneling properties of the junction through the change in charge distribution between the Al electrode and the porous-Si substrate. (3)The decomposition of a 2Methyl-1, 4Naphtoquinone thin film formed on the junction was promoted when applying the bias voltage (+) to the Al electrode.

    Hetero-structures of ultra-thin films formed by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) have been widely investigated since such man-made systems are one candidate for innovating heterogeneous catalysis and microelectronics fabrication processes. It is well known that bulk Fe has a body-centered-cubic (bcc) structure below 1183 K. In contrast, face-centered-cubic (fcc) Fe thin films can be obtained on single crystal Cu (fcc) substrates by MBE even at room temperature. In situ survey of atomic or molecular behavior of such species on fcc-Fe film is quite interesting for its surface chemistry aspects. We have investigated in this research project that adsorption and desorption behavior of carbon monoxide (CO) on the various thick fcc-Fe films on Cu(100) and Cu(111) using IR reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRRAS). It was shown that, on the Cu(100) substrate, CO molecules initially adsorbed on bridge sites and adsorbed on on-top sites with increasing coverage. For saturated adsorption of CO, the position and width of the on-top C-O stretch band were found to change with deposited Fe thickness and in turn the surface structures. The on-top CO species at the fcc Fe(100) surface is sharp and located at 2038 cm^<-1> at saturated coverage. At the thickness above 10 ML the band is broadened by the phase transition from fcc to bcc. It was also found that CO adsorption on the 1-3 ML films gave an additional band at 2104 cm^<-1> which is remarkably higher than the C-O stretch band of CO adsorbed on the clean Cu(100) surface, representative of the influence of Fe. For fcc Fe films of 1-4 ML on the Cu(111) substrate, where RHEED images suggest fcc Fe(111) surface the saturated CO stretch band at 90K was centered at 2000 cm^<-1>. Between 4 and 8 ML the two absorption (2032 and 2000 cm^<-1>) bands due to adsorbed CO were observed; RHEED images in this region clearly show the mixed phase of fcc (111) and bcc (110) surfaces. Above 8 ML at which the film surface transformed to the bcc structure, the band was located only at 2032 cm^<-1>.

    The photoisomerization of self-assembled monolayer films of 4-(4'-(methoxyphenylazo)phenoxy)undecane- 1-thiol (AZO 11) on evaporated gold films was investigated by means of Raman scattering and UV-visible and IR absorption measurements. The trans * cis photoisomerization of the self-assembled AZO11 molecules were restricted in comparison to the isomerization of AZO11 in solutions. Moreover, the trans-to-cis isomerization was more suppressed than the cis-to-trans isomerization, as expected from the molecular cross section of cis AZO11 that is larger than trans AZO11. On this basis we propose that cis-form samples are on the whole more suitable for cis trans photoisomerization in order to control the molecular alignment of liquid crystals. This indeed was verified in our experiments where thin films of a nematic liquid crystal (4-cyano-4'-pentylbiphenyl : 5CB) were deposited on the cis and trans AZO11 surface layers. IR reflection absorption spectroscopy revealed that 5CB molecules tend to align with their long axes perpendicular to the plane of the trans AZO11 layer. However, this alignment was affected by UV irradiation due to partial conversion to cis isomer. This fact demonstrates that liquid crystal alignment can be controlled by changes in the molecular shape on the substrate surface. Similar IR measurements were performed on gold film surfaces covered with a mixture of adsorbed AZO11 and hexadecanethiol (C_<16>H_<33>SH). in this case the limitation of AZO11 photoisomerization was relaxed and a larger change in the liquid crystal alignment was observed. The utility of IR transmission and Raman scattering measurements on silver island films was also demonstrated.

    Canham first reported a room-temperature visible photoluminescence (PL) from the porous silicon (PS) and since then a large number of investigations have been carried out on the mechanisms responsible for the visible PL as well as on its application to optoelectronic devices. The visible PL from PS samples has been explained, to date, on the basis of quantum confinement effects in Si nanostructures formed PS layrs or the formation of wide-gap surface chemical species such as siloxene. Further experimental as well as theoretical work should be needed for more precise discussion of the strong visible PL mechanisms. Most of the PL spectra reported were measured in air after the treatments and dynamic changes in the PL spectra of PS in the process of various treatments are yet to be elucidated. In situ PL analysis of the samples under the various treatments conditions would, thus, provide us an important clue to understand the mechanisms of the visible PL of PS. In the present study, visible luminescence and Raman spectral changes of porous Si during several treatments were recorded in-situ. An exposure to F_2 under Ar^+ laser light (488 nm) irradiation at 373 K leads to change in photoluminescence (PL) band intensity as well as its peak position. At early stage of the exposure, the PL band at 750 nm peak decreased in intensity and a new band emerged at 600 nm. After 30 min from the beginning of the exposure dominates the spectrum while the band at 750 nm almost disappeared. When the sample after the F_2 treatment was exposed to H_2O vapor, the PL intensity around 750 nm increased. The average particle size of the porous Si during the F_2 exposure evaluated from Raman measurements was remained unchanged during the treatments. Further, PL band intensity change of the sample during electrochemical treatments was recorded. The results showed that the PL intensity depended strongly upon the electrolytes. These results suggest that surface chemical structure of the sample species strongly influence the observed PL spectral features.

    1) In order to investigate the adsorption of p-aminothiophenol (PATP) on silver, Raman scattering experiments were performed by exciting surface plasmon polaritons on Ag island films. The silver films were prepared by vacuum evaporation as a mass thickness of 5nm on BaF_2 plates. The plates were dipped into ethanol solutions containing 1 mM PATP.The Raman spectra were measured as a function of dipping time. At the initial stages of the adsorption of PATP on Ag, the Raman signals from PATP increased in proprtion to the square root of dipping time, suggesting that the adsorption rate was conditioned by the diffusion of PATP in the solution. The Raman band due to the Ag-S stretching vibration was also detected at near 220cm^<-1>, which demonstrates a direct contact of the S atom with Ag. These results were supported by our FT-IR experiments. 2) Raman scattering was measured for iron pentacarbonyl (IPC) deposited in vacuum at 120K on flat and rough Ag film surfaces. At elevated temperatures IPC was molecularly desorbed from the surface. Illumination of IPC with UV light from a low pressure Hg lamp decreased the Raman signals, but no significant changes were observed in the spectra. Upon heating the substrate up to 200K under UV irradiation, the two C-O stretch bands in the 2000 cm^<-1> region disappeared and, instead, two novel bands appeared. These spectral changes are thought to arise from a structural change of IPC or its conversion into other Fe-carbonyl species. Another spectral change was found near 260K under UV illumination. It should be noted that the Raman signals were more intense on rough silver surfaces than on flat ones. This enhancement of Raman signals from the rough surfaces are explained by the SPP excitations of Ag. Thus, through these investigations, we could demonstrate the usefulness of the SPP-aided Raman spectroscopy in getting information on surface reactions and deposition processes, most of which had been ambiguous.

    本研究の主眼は、固体表面(基板)上において進行する薄膜成長過程を、表面および気相の両面から分子レベルで、しかも実際の堆積条件下でリアルタイム測定することにある。具体的には、表面反応分析法としての偏光変調赤外分光法(PM-IR)に対して、気相反応測定用の四重極質量分析法(QMS)を併用した。原料ガスにはジメチル水素化Al((CH_3)_2AlH;DMAH)を用い、アモルファスSi(a-Si)基板上へのAl薄膜の化学気相堆積(Chemical Vapor Deposition;CVD)過程を対象として、a-Si中の水素化およびフッ化Si化学種の動的挙動に着目したその場測定を行った。本研究を通じて得られた結果を以下にまとめる。 ・DMAH/a-Si:H系 光CVD法により323Kで成膜したa-Si:Hを基板として用いた。成膜後その温度でDMAHを暴露するとa-Si:H膜中のSiH_3種のみが反応により失われるのに対して、573Kに加熱後暴露を行うとSiH_3種に加えSiH_2種も反応に関与した。すなわち、前者の方が後者に比較してDMAHに対する反応性が高いことがわかる。また、180秒以上暴露を続けても赤外吸収強度の減少は認められないことから、DMAHと水素化Si種の反応はa-Si:H表面だけに限られ、膜内部には進行しないことが推定された。またこの様な変化は、紫外光照射下でのみ観測され、紫外光が反応を促進することが明らかとなった。 ・DMAH/a-Si:H:F系 化学堆積法により373Kで成膜したa-Si:H:Fを基板として用いた。この場合、373K以上でDMAHを暴露することによりフッ化Si種の赤外強度が減少すると同時に水素化Si種の吸収強度が増加した。すなわち、水素化Si種よりもフッ化Si種の方がDMAHとの反応性に富むことがわかった。

    雰囲気中の固体表面に存在する化学種の挙動が光照射下で測定できれば、その表面において進行する光化学過程の研究に重要な情報が得られる。この研究では偏光変調赤外分光法のこの目的への応用を試みた。その理由は、この方法は雰囲気の赤外吸収を消去すると同時に、表面化学種の振動スペクトルの高感度での測定を可能にするからである。 本年度は光CVD法により成長するa-Si薄膜中のSiHn種の挙動をその場測定した。a-Si薄膜(膜厚<50【A!゜】)はジシラン-窒素混合ガスに水銀灯からの紫外光を照射して金蒸着膜表面上に成長させた。 基板温度を室温とし、全圧を113Paとすると、-Si【H_3】種の振動による赤外吸収が測定された。基板温度を473Kに上昇させると、-Si【H_3】種のほかに>Si【H_2】または(Si【H_2】)n種に帰属できる赤外吸収があらわれる。しかし、室温で生成した薄膜を473Kに加熱しても>Si【H_2】種の赤外吸収は出現しない。この事は薄膜中に存在する-Si【H_3】種は安定である事を意味する。したがって、SiHn種の構造は気相から飛来した活性種が固相表面に到達した時の条件によって決定されると結論した。 同一照射時間におけるSiHn種の赤外吸収強度は全圧667Paで最大になる。これに対し、膜厚は全圧の増加とともに減少する。また、膜厚は時間に比例して増加するのに、SiHn種の赤外吸収強度は時間に比例せず飽和の傾向を示す。このことは、薄膜中のSiHn種の濃度が成膜条件とか、膜の成長に伴なって変化する事を意味する。なお、a-Siについてこれまでの研究で見出されたSiO種の吸収は存在せず、酸素の導入によってはじめて出現した。すなわち、これまでに測定されたSiOはa-Siを空気中に取出した際に生じたものであることが明らかになった。
