自然現象や社会現象を方程式で表現し、(近似)解を求めて可視化すること、に一番の興味があります。一見全く異なる分野での現象の間に同じ構造が見えたときに、なんだかわかったような気になります(なれます)。必然的に、いろいろな数学以外の分野の研究者の皆さんと一緒に仕事をすることになります。分野が違うと言葉も違うし文化も慣習も違いますが、知らない国を旅行するみたいで楽しいです。物理的に自然なモデリングに基づいて数学的に妥当な定式化をし、(致命的な)バグのないプログラムを作って根気よく動かし、物理に則った可視化をしたとき、必ずきれいな絵ができる。そのことがなんとも楽しいです。

    Abstract This study presents a data-driven model of the local wind field over two small lakes in Jyväskylä, Finland. Five temporary monitoring stations installed during the summers of 2015 and 2016 observed wind speed/direction around the two lakes. In addition, an official meteorological station located 15 km north of the lakes is permanently available. Our goal was to develop a model that could evaluate wind speed and direction over the two lakes using only data from the permanent station. Statistical analysis for the spatio-temporal wind data revealed that (1) local wind speed is correlated with the elevation and its cyclic pattern is identical to that of the official-station data, and (2) the local wind direction field is spatially homogeneous and is strongly correlated with the official-station data. Based on these results, we built two regression models for estimating spatial distribution of local wind speed and directions based on the digital elevation model (DEM) and official-station data. We compared the predicted wind speeds/directions by the proposed model with the corresponding observation data and a numerical result for model validation. We found that the proposed model could effectively simulate heterogeneous local wind fields and considers uncertainty of estimates.

    <title>Abstract</title>Hemodialysis procedure is usually advisable for end-stage renal disease patients. This study is aimed at computational investigation of hemodynamical characteristics in three-dimensional arteriovenous shunt for hemodialysis, for which computed tomography scanning and phase-contrast magnetic resonance imaging are used. Several hemodynamical characteristics are presented and discussed depending on the patient-specific morphology and flow conditions including regurgitating flow from the distal artery caused by the construction of the arteriovenous shunt. A simple backflow prevention technique at an outflow boundary is presented, with stabilized finite element approaches for incompressible Navier–Stokes equations.

    Anemia, for which erythropoiesis-stimulating agents (ESAs) and iron supplements (ISs) are used as preventive measures, presents important difficulties for hemodialysis patients. Nevertheless, the number of physicians able to manage such medications appropriately is not keeping pace with the rapid increase of hemodialysis patients. Moreover, the high cost of ESAs imposes heavy burdens on medical insurance systems. An artificial-intelligence-supported anemia control system (AISACS) trained using administration direction data from experienced physicians has been developed by the authors. For the system, appropriate data selection and rectification techniques play important roles. Decision making related to ESAs poses a multi-class classification problem for which a two-step classification technique is introduced. Several validations have demonstrated that AISACS exhibits high performance with correct classification rates of 72%-87% and clinically appropriate classification rates of 92%-98%.

    In this paper, we propose a new framework of statistical sensitivity analysis for linear discriminant analysis based on the sign of the influence function. In general, the average of discriminant scores and the misclassification rate based on cross-validation are important measures in discriminant analysis. However, when we perform statistical sensitivity analysis for a discriminant method, we often get different influential subsets for prediction accuracy and analysis result in the cases of the evaluation of individuals for the average of discriminant scores and the misclassification rate based on cross-validation. To deal with the above situation, we search a subset based on the common influential individuals in both cases, and regard the subset as a confidential influential subset. By investigating the characteristics of the individuals belonging to the common subset, we robustly perform statistical sensitivity analysis for the prediction accuracy in linear discriminant analysis. We apply our proposed approach to a two-discrimination problem in terms of a clinical side effect after thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR), and show the usefulness of our approach.

    A numerical method for simulation of blood flow in the thoracic aorta is presented. Patient-specific aorta shapes are used in a centerline-fitted generalized coordinate system in which the Navier&mdash;Stokes equation is discretized using finite-difference approximation. The main target of this study is long-term adverse events that occur after endovascular stent&mdash;graft treatment. Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR), or stent&mdash;graft treatment, has become widely accepted as an important option for treatment of thoracic aortic diseases. Many studies have proven the safety and efficacy of TEVAR with satisfactory short-term to mid-term outcomes. Nevertheless, even if the initial TEVAR treatment technically succeeds, some patients show recurrence and progression of diseases many years after treatment. Based on long-term follow-up examinations, such long-term morphological change and effects of hemodynamic flow apparently interact synergically. This study is intended to investigate the constant effect of vascular hemodynamics on the long-term adverse events using computational fluid dynamics based on finite-difference approximation with an immersed boundary/fictitious domain approach.

    Sensitivity analysis based on influence functions has been widely studied in the field of statistics. In particular the evaluation approach has been applied to different statistical methods such as principal component analysis, correspondence analysis, and linear discriminant analysis. However, the study of discriminant methods in pattern recognition is less advanced. With this background, we focused on a subspace method, which is a discriminant method in pattern recognition, and proposed an evaluation method for the influence of training samples to the result of analysis using influence functions. However, the performance and effectiveness of our method were not illustrated well. In this study, we focused on our single-case diagnostics and applied the approach to a representative subspace method, following which we showed good results. Specifically, in situations that had mislabeled samples in the training data, we were able to detect such samples using our approach and subsequently deleted them from the training data to enhance the performance of the target classifier.

    In modern rugby, kicks are very important elements. Motions of kicked balls are closely related to rotation of balls. In this study, motions of rotating rugby balls are simulated and visualized by using fluid-structure interaction analysis. Incompressible Navier-Stokes equation is solved in a Cartesian coordinate system, and the motions of rugby balls are calculated by Newton's equation of motion and Euler's equation of motion at the same time.

Oil adhesion properties are taken into consideration through a friction type boundary condition prescribed on the surface of spilled oil. Flow equations for respective fluids and boundary conditions between them are unified into a single flow equation to construct a numerical model. The fictitious domain method plays an important role in the unification procedure. Computation becomes rather simple due to unification of equations.

    This study presents a numerical simulation and a data-driven model of a local wind field over two small lakes in Jyvaskyla, Finland. Five temporary monitoring stations observed wind speed/direction around the two lakes. In addition, an official meteorological station located 15 km north of the lakes is permanently available. Numerical simulations based on digital elevation model (DEM) and laser-scanned height data provides characteristics of the local wind field around the targeted lakes. Based on a statistical analysis for the spatio-temporal wind data, we built two regression models for estimating spatial distribution of local wind speed and directions based on the DEM and official-station data. We compared the predicted wind speeds/directions by the proposed model with the corresponding observation data and a numerical result for model validation. We found that the proposed model could effectively simulate heterogeneous local wind fields and considers uncertainty of estimates.

    In this study, flow in porous media has been considered. Flow in porous media arises in a lot of situations such as flows in biotissues, flows through forests, flows in lakes with vegetation and so on. In porous media, micro-scale structures of pores affect to the flow in the macro-scale. This kind of multi-scale problems is rather difficult for mathematical modeling and numerical simulations. In this study, flows through narrow gaps between small spheres and flows in homogeneous medium with constant drag force are simulated and compared.

It was found that although two major approximations based on both the N-body problem and the multi-phase fluid problem give somewhat consistent numerical results with those of experimental data of nano-fluid dynamics, the mechanisms of the appearance of characteristic aspects in numerical data are totally different. 2. Suggested a simple mathematical model for a nano-particle and a wall with a gap in a two-dimensional shear flow. The numerical calculation is now being carried out, and expected to give a simple and clear understandings for the complexed three-dimensional problem.

    The finite element method is a fundamental technology and its validity is guaranteed by the mathematical theory. In particular, regarding the shape of elements and the mathematical properties of finite element solutions, various things are known besides convergence and stability. However, even with the simplest triangle primary element, there is no consistent theory expressing mathematically and clearly what is the good element shape or what is a good triangulation. In this research, using various finite elements, we studied the following: (1) error of nodal interpolation (2) Condition number of coefficient matrix and nonuniformity of triangulation (3) Analytical properties such as discrete maximum principle and maximal regularity.

    The water and its right of management in Kyoto Basin were regulated by Kamigamo Shrine until 1872. The right of management on Kamo River and its canal for irrigation system also belonged to the Shrine. The water of garden in Kyoto Imperial Palace was lacked in the dry season and summer and the section of garden management in the Place often required enough quantity of the water from the Shrine. After 1872, the right of water management was transferred to the Meiji Government in Tokyo. However, the farmers in upper area of the canal, who were dominated by the Shrine before 1872, conducted the water for their irrigation. Kyoto government developed a new canal whose water source was Lake Biwa (Biwako Canal) to solve the solution on the lack of the water in Imperial Palace for the fire prevention. This paper discussed the transfer of the right of the water management and the performance on the use of water on site based on the archives in Kyoto Prefecture, Kyoto City Bureau and the Agency of Imperial Place. The problems on the lack of the water in the Place could not be resolved by the water supply of the Biwako Canal. The irrigation system had the priority to use the water of the canal.

    Objectives To establish functional computed tomography (CT) imaging as a method for assessing tumor-induced angiogenesis. Materials and Methods Functional CT imaging was performed for 14 renal cell carcinomas with a 4-channel multidetector-row CT system. Functional CT imaging was mathematically analyzed by means of two-compartmental modeling of contrast medium using a computational discretization approach. The model incorporated diffusible kinetics of contrast medium including leakage from the capillary to the extravascular compartment and buck-flux from the extravascular to the capillary compartment. The correlations between functional CT parameters [relative blood volume (rbv), permeability 1 (Pm1), and permeability 2 (Pm2)] and histopathological markers of tumor-induced angiogenesis [microvessel density (MVD) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)] were statistically analyzed. Results The modeling of contrast enhancement was successfully performed, showing similarity between the mathematically-simulated solution curve and the measured time-density curve. There were significant linear correlations between MVD grade and Pm1 (r=0.841, p=0.001), and between VEGF grade and Pm2 (r=0.804, 0.005) by Pearson's correlations coefficient. Conclusion Functional CT imaging may be a useful tool toward the assessment of tumor-induced angiogenesis

  18. 小学校の桜を化学物質の曝露指標とする開発研究

    化学物質の影響は、子供が感受性が高い。その曝露シナリオのモニタリング指標として、子供の集積する小学校の桜の葉を選んだ。桜はほとんどの小学校に植えられている。岡山市内19の小学校に許可を得て、4月から11月までの間、桜葉を採取した。得られた葉を、ひとつはチトクロームP450誘導を知るEROD活性を測定した。これらの測定に係わり、葉中の繊維を溶かすなどのテクニックを導入した。EROD活性は概して道路近傍の小学校に多い傾向がみられたが、有意な差をみることは難しかった。そこで、多環芳香族炭化水素類(Poly Aromatic Hydrocarbon : PAH)を測定した。対象とした小学校は、岡山市内を横断する国道2号線(片側3車線)をはじめ、主な国道沿いの立地や、市南部の工場地帯の立地、山間部の立地など特性をもたせた。その結果、概して道路近傍の小学校の桜葉は、PAHに汚染されていることがわかった。また南部工場地域の小学校のPAHが最も高く、移動発生源である自動車よりも国連発生源である工場の影響が強いことが示唆された。また、PAHの由来をオイルと燃料由来に分けて検討した結果、燃料由来の比量が大きく、大気中の排ガス発生源のものを桜葉が吸収していたことが明らかになった。 さらに、これら桜の葉との相関をとるために、桜木の下の土壌、当該小学校における大気をサンプラーによって収集かつ近傍道路において道路近傍の大気、じんあいを採取し、これらのPAHと桜葉中のPAHの相関を求めたが、明確な相関はでず、桜葉中のPAHは、これら複数の要因の複合により形成されていることが示唆された。

    1. Numerical calculation of finite difference methods based on fictitious domain and distributions Our formulation for numerical calculation in finite difference method is to find the locally integrable function satisfying the partial differential equations in the sense of distribution. This idea leads naturally to the expression of Dirichlet-Neumann map on the fictitious boundary. We proved that numerical solutions defined by locally integrable functions are convergent to the genuine solution in the sense of the Schwartz distribution. Moreover we proposed new numerical algorithm which use the fast Fourier transform. This is based on the combination with the Fourier transform and the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the coefficient matrix of Poisson's equation. From this idea we constructs a numerical method which we call the successive elimination of lines, and contribute to the numerical calculation for the transmission problem. 2. Applied mathematical problem and its numerical simulation The numerical method we developed here is possible to apply to various problems in environmental mathematics. One is the modeling and simulation for surface inversions which depend on the temperature and atmosphere in urban. And we showed the numerical simulation of the singular temperature in the town. Two is the research on the coastal pollution by spilled oil when it occurs in the case of the tanker accident. We showed it through the numerical simulation based on the fictitious domain method. Third is the numerical simulation in medical treatments. We showed a numerical simulation of the cerebrospinal fluid. As above mentiond, we researched mathematical analysis of finite difference methods from view points of fictitious domain and distribution, and established the numerical algorithm which is able to apply to various environmental mathematics. Our papers were published and research results were presented at international conferences.

    The purpose of this research project is to develop the approximation methods for wave propagation problems in unbounded region and as its applications we study the numerical simulation of voice generation. We formulate the problem as the exterior Helmholtz equation, and reduce the problem to the one in a bounded region by introducing the artificial boundary condition on an artificial boundary. We developed the numerical methods for this problem based on the finite element discretization method and study the application problems including the voice generation. The results of the head investigator Kako are the followings. He found out the variational formula of the complex eigenvalues with respect to the deformation of vocal tract. The eigenvalues are related to the formants of frequency response function that is important for voice generation. He then developed the algorithm for designing the shape of vocal tract by use of the variational formula, and validated the algorithm through numerical simulations. He also studied the application of the Finite Difference Time Domain method to the acoustic problem and obtained several basic results. For the voice problem, Yoshida developed the method to obtain the mapping from the articulation parameters to the phonetic transmission characteristics by use of the neural networks. Suito studied the shape optimization problem for minimizing the reflection of the wave propagating in a tubular region with spatially changing impedance parameters and obtained unusual numerical results. Related to the numerical methods for the wave problem, Koyama studied the three dimensional Helmholtz problem by use of the fictitious domain method and derived the a priori error estimates for the approximation, and investigated the validity by some numerical experiences. Ushijima studied the Helmholtz problem by the collocation method based on the fundamental solutions and obtained a sufficient condition for the exponential convergence of the approximate solution and tried to validate of the theoretical results by multi-precision arithmetic computation. As for the numerical methods for solving large linear equations appearing in the application problems including the Helmholtz equation, Zhang studied the fast and efficient iteration methods. Imamura developed the automatic tuning techniques with high actuary and stability in the implementation for the parallel computation methods for the large linear systems.

    This research project intended to construct a mathematical model and computational techniques to investigate drifting, adhesion and infiltration processes of spilled oil in a surfzone. Generally speaking, heavy oil C can be treated as a Newtonian fluid in a normal situation. However, if it spilled out into the sea, it constitutes an emulsion as a consequence of mixing with seawater and/or volatilization of its smaller molecular weight components. Finally, it reaches a state resembling mousse floating on the sea surface. Governing equations for computing motions for both Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids and interfacial interactions on the boundary surface are unified to construct a numerical model. In this unified model, surface tension acting on free surfaces of oil in sandy beach is included in the form of distribution defined on the interface. By controlling the magnitude of the surface tension term in the unified equation, it becomes possible to compute the infiltration depth of spilled oil into sandy beach.

    It is a common feature of some physical systems consisting of a large number of coupled systems that a cascade of energy flow from large to small scales generates a scaling behavior, namely power-law behavior of some observable. Scaling is found in a wide range of systems, from geophysical to biological. A typical example is seismicity that is characterized by an energy transfer through a hierarchy stricture. One of recent research is to apply this idea to explain the observed scaling laws. We proposed the general model equation of threshold dynamics that exhibits self-similar properties. The commonly used dynamically driven Renormalization Group method is useful to analyze the scale invariance of the spatiotemporal structures produced by the operation of the updating algorithm. This method integrates the model in space and time in the analysis of the effect of coarse graining on the dynamics to produce the set of Renormalization group equations from which various characteristic exponents are obtained. A technically simpler, but nevertheless asymptotically exact, method where coarse graining is performed by updating the model with respect to time is used to study the self-similar behavior of the model to predict the characteristic exponents.

    This research project intended to develop solution methods to analyze complex phenomena arising in environmental problems, flow of liquids in human body. (1)The Distribution Theoretic Approach to Multi-phase Flow (DTAMF) developed by Hideo Kawarada and his collaborators to analyze multi-phase flow interacting each other at the boundary between phases, which was effectively used to compute the flow problems arising in the neighborhood of tidal flats including the flows of air on the beach and in the earth, sea water on the beach and in the earth, and spilled oil on the beach and in the earth. Especially it should be noted that decomposition of spilled oil by bacteria and adhesive phenomena of oil on a sandy beach were simulated by use of the results obtained in DTAMF. DTAMF was also applied to analyze the motion of liquids to flow through complex structure near the spinal cord. (2)The role of waves at margins of sandy beach or a tidal flat to sea water for determination of species survival in a coastal ecosystem was discussed from a view point of environmental experiments by the group of Hiroshima University. We tried to interpret this experimental result by constructing a mathematical model connected with breaking waves and ecosystem dynamics, in which a phase field model and genetic algorithm played important roles. The numerical simulation was done due to this idea.
