    2021年に実施した研究では、語学クラスにおける仮想環境の特徴や複数の文化学習教授モデルを議論することで、オンライン交流による異文化理解の理論的枠組みを強化することに焦点を当てた。 また、異文化交流の環境に関する5つの発表を行って、仮想空間の概念を見直すとともに、仮想空間が持つべき特徴を説明して、文化歴史活動論(Cole & Engestrom, 1993)の観点から異文化交流を、実践共同体(Wenger, 1999)の観点から学生の相互作用について説明して、仮想環境における語学教育の新たな空間について論じた。 枠組みの強化にあたっては、異文化間コミュニケーションに関する理論を実践に役立てるために、Janet BennetとMichael Byramの見解を取り入れた。異文化間活動の環境との関連では、学習空間として、あるいは文化生産・交流のために、ファシリテーターがどのようにしてこれらの空間を構築していくかが重要であると考えた(Kuntz & Berger, 2011:145)。 モデルに関しては、2022年3月発行の高度教養教育・学生支援機構紀要第8号pp.185-194に掲載された論文『異文化理解能力モデル:理論から実践まで』で、文化と異文化理解能力の概念化、および外国語クラスにおけるその統合について、3段階に分けて論じた。 この理論的枠組みを用いて、東北大学で第二外国語としてスペイン語を学ぶ学生と、カスティーリャ・ラ・マンチャ大学で日本語を学ぶスペイン人学生の間で試験的なオンライン交流を実施した。このパイロットケースでは、文化的な内容を含むアクティビティ、学生同士の交流、学生によるビデオやリポートなどのポートフォリオ制作が行われた。
