    Dans L’Évolution créatrice, Bergson a critiqué le problème qui consiste à se demander pourquoi il y a de l’être plutôt que rien, et l’a qualifié de pseu­do-problème. Environ un quart de siècle plus tard, il a brièvement récapitulé cette critique dans l’article « Le Possible et le réel ». Cette récapitulation n’est pas juste un résumé, et son examen nous révèlera les divers éléments difficiles à discerner dans L’Évolution créatrice: on peut citer entre autres, l’adoption par Bergson du principe d’inconcevabilité, bien connu des philosophes du XVIIe siècle, et la vigilance dont il fait preuve vis-à-vis du fonctionnement trompeur du langage usuel, apparentée à celle de la philosophie du langage ordinaire. Je reconstruis et examine cette version récapitulative, et mets en lumière la nouvelle argumentation vis-à-vis du problème et le caractère aussi traditionnel que révolutionnaire de la philosophie de Bergson.     Abstract In Matter and Memory, Bergson identifies a problem with perception and resolves it by arguing that matter is an aggregate of images. However, it is unclear whether and how Bergson justifies this thesis, and interpreters differ considerably on this question. This paper formulates and analyzes Bergson’s arguments for this thesis in Chapter 1 of Matter and Memory. Bergson presents five arguments, some of which echo arguments in early modern philosophy. They jointly compose a substantive, well-structured defense of his thesis. This paper also illuminates an aspect of Bergson’s method that departs from his famous reliance on intuition and is grounded in his conception of the clarity required in philosophy.

    本研究の目的は、論理と感情という視点から日本哲学を検討することにより、その多様性と可能性とを明らかにし、かつその成果をひろく世界に発信して日本哲学研究の基盤形成に寄与することにある。本研究では、西田幾多郎や田辺元などのいわゆる京都学派の思想家だけでなく、高橋里美、三宅剛一、阿部次郎など、草創期の東北帝国大学で活躍した人々に着目する。 2020（令和２）年度は初年度でもあり、まずは関連する文献の読解や情報収集に多くの時間を割いた。研究代表者・分担者は、①科学哲学・論理学の研究班、②西洋哲学の同化と異化の研究班、③感情・美学の研究班に分かれて、それぞれに課題と進捗を共有しつつ、基礎的な研究を進めた。 研究代表者の野家は、論文「東北大学と科学哲学の伝統」において、東北帝大における田辺元、高橋里美、三宅剛一などの業績を論じ、日本哲学における「論理」の系譜を辿った。分担者の上原は、西田や田辺など京都学派の哲学者について講演等で発信した。 2017～2019年度の科研費「感情の媒介的機能に定位した、よき共同的な生の構想」(代表・野家）の成果を受け継ぎつつ、この科研費研究の成果も盛りこむ形で、『エモーション・スタディーズ』誌において、特集企画「共同と感情の哲学」を組み、代表・分担者が「感情」をめぐる研究成果を公表した。 2020年度中に、林永強氏（獨協大）の協力を得て、国内外の研究者と連携して、日本哲学における感情について研究を進めた。その結果、2021年４月に International Conference, Emotion and Feeling in Japanese Philosophy を開催するに到った。

    2019年度は、各分科会での活動に加え、大きな成果として、国内外で開催した国際的なワークショップによって、新しい国際協働体制を構築しつつ 具体的個別論点を深めることができた。 具体的には東京にてフランス人研究者二名を招いた「ベルクソンにおける持続とその数学的射程」（9/29、東京大学）、数理生物学や分析哲学などを含む新しい学際的なベルクソン研究を謳った「Physical Time, Biological Time: Bergsonism Today」（10/24-25、トゥールーズ大学）、記憶の分析哲学とベルクソンの記憶理論の専門的なレベルでのコラボレーションとなった「Remembering: Analytic and Bergsonian Approaches」(10/28-29、グルノーブル大学)、国際ベルクソン協会主催の新講義録刊行記念ワークショップ（11/29、パリ、コレージュ・ド・フランス）など、学際的な広がりを持つ海外の研究者たちとの交流が一段深いレベルに達したと言える。 その証として、2019年11月に発足したグローバル・ベルクソン・プロジェクト(GBP)による全世界規模研究網の増強に中心的な役割を果たすことになった点や、グルノーブル記憶の哲学センター(CPM)のメンバーと 、今後の研究協力として第二弾のワークショップの開催にむけてフランス国内の競争的資金への共同申請を行うなど、これまでにない国際協力関係を築くに至ったことが特筆できる。 他方で、年度末に予定していた日仏哲学会におけるワークショップ「ベルクソン『試論』の思想史的ポテンシャルを探る」、またロンドンにて 開催を準備してきた二日間のワークショップ「Time, Freedom, and Creativity」については、新型コロナウイルスの影響により開催を断念せざるを得なかったのが悔やまれる点である。

    The core idea of Bergson's major work “Matter and Memory”, approaching the philosophical problems of mind from a perspective of time, has long remained obscure and enigmatic. Thanks to the recent development in the sciences of consciousness as well as in the analytic metaphysics, its theoretical potentialities and advantages were ready to be revealed in many productive aspects. By setting a clear focus onto the relation of consciousness and time, which is peculiar to “Matter and Memory”, our multidisciplinary research network, including not only philosophers, but also neuroscientists, pathologists, researchers of artificial intelligence, aesthetics, psychology, ethics, etc., have achieved remarkable results as efficiently as possible. The two first international symposia have already published as two proceedings and the third will also be published in 2018.

    The aim of this research was to examine Bergson's theory of laughter with a special focus on his theories of definition and of emotion. The research concluded as follows: 1. The originality of his method in elucidating the nature of funniness consists in the fact that he tries to grasp, not the definition but the "theme" of things that are funny. This method is an attempt at sociology, and from this point of view, this method can be taken as a sketch of "third kind of knowledge" in bergsonism. 2. Bergson admits certain epistemic role of emotion. This subject is developed not only in his theory of laughter but also in his proof of existence of God which demonstrates, so to speak, the identity of "God of Abraham, God of Isaac, God of Jacob" with "God of the philosophers".

    We have searched into the ways how to cultivate citizenship as the actual social foundation through the philosophical and ethical education, having not only developed the educational contents, which follow the subject of high school 'ethics' and are accomplished in the 4 years in university, but also tried to testify them in the actual lessons. The theoretical and ideal basis of this research is, on one hand, the concept of kantian citizenship, which is the core of his thought concerning enlightenment, and the special research into the relation between rhetoric and philosophy, which has been piled up since the age of ancient Greek on the other hand. We presented the result in the international philosophical congress in Hong Kong,(2009), Japanese Society of Philosophy(2010), and Japanese Society of Ethics(2011), all raising discussions.
