    Abstract Laser powder additive manufacturing (PBF-LB) is an additive manufacturing method capable of producing high-precision and fully dense parts. However, nondestructively quality assurance of no internal defects remains challenging. Mitigating internal defects requires elucidating their formation mechanism and improving the PBF-LB process conditions. Therefore, we developed an in-situ monitoring system that combines surface morphology measurement by fringe projection and thermal field measurement with a high-speed camera. On heterogeneous surfaces in a practical multi-track PBF-LB process, a roughness index of the built part surface altered cyclically, consistent with the change in the angle between laser scanning and atmospheric gas flow. The high-speed camera monitoring showed that the melt pool was asymmetrical and spindle-shaped and that spatter was emitted mainly from the built part side of the melt pool. Furthermore, it was found that the built-part surface morphology under the powder layer affected the stability of the melt pool. As a result, a graphical representation of the melt pool and spattering for heterogeneous surfaces was proposed. Although it is still difficult to theoretically estimate the process window in which no spattering and no internal defects, in-situ monitoring equipment will provide knowledge to elucidate spattering and internal defects formation.

    <title>Abstract</title>The availability of an in-situ monitoring and feedback control system during the implementation of metal additive manufacturing technology ensures that high-quality finished parts are manufactured. This study aims to investigate the correlation between the surface texture and internal defects or density of laser-beam powder-bed fusion (LB-PBF) parts. In this study, 120 cubic specimens were fabricated via application of the LB-PBF process to the IN 718 Ni alloy powder. The density and 35 areal surface-texture parameters of manufactured specimens were determined based on the ISO 25,178–2 standard. Using a statistical method, a strong correlation was observed between the areal surface-texture parameters and density or internal defects within specimens. In particular, the areal surface-texture parameters of reduced dale height, core height, root-mean-square height, and root-mean-square gradient demonstrate a strong correlation with specimen density. Therefore, in-situ monitoring of these areal surface-texture parameters can facilitate their use as control variables in the feedback system.

    <title>Abstract</title>Metal additive manufacturing technology requires a real-time monitoring and feedback control system to assure the quality of the final products. In particular, it is essential to reveal the phenomena of recoating and melting-solidification processes in laser powder bed fusion using a real-time monitoring system because they influence strongly the occurrence of defects. This study was conducted to elucidate the correlation among the powder characteristics, recoating conditions, and surface morphology of a powder bed in the recoating process to determine the relationship between the surface morphology of the powder bed and the final product quality. To this end, a surface morphology measurement system composed of a powder recoating test bench and a layer surface morphology measurement apparatus was first designed and fabricated. Then, it was used to quantify the surface morphology of the powder bed. Specifically, the influences of the different powder characteristics and the recoating parameters of the powder supply ratio and recoating speed on the surface morphology of the powder bed were investigated using various powders of Al-10Si-0.4Mg (AlSi10Mg) alloy and Inconel 718 (IN718) alloy. The surface morphology of the powder bed was measured as the value of 2σ at a resolution of 30 μm in height. It was found that the angle of repose and the basic flow energy of the bulk powder are promising parameters for evaluating the surface morphology. The surface morphology was significantly affected by the powder characteristics and recoating speed. The value of 2σ for the AlSi10Mg powder increased rapidly over a recoating speed of 50 mm/s for all powders. The value of 2σ for the irregularly shaped AlSi10Mg powder was approximately 19 μm, and the 2σ values for the other powders were approximately 17 μm at a recoating speed of 15 mm/s. However, at a recoating speed greater than 300 mm/s, the irregularly shaped powder exhibited better surface morphology than did the spherical powder. The recycling process deteriorated the flowability of the new powder. However, the surface morphology of the spherical recycled powder was similar to that of the spherical powder. Consequently, the correlation among the powder characteristics, recoating conditions, and surface morphology of the powder bed was revealed by employing the surface morphology measurement system. Quantification of the surface morphology of the powder bed using the monitoring system facilitates control of the recoating process to prevent the occurrence of defects.

    Recently, high-entropy alloys (HEAs) have attracted much attention because of their superior properties, such as high strength and corrosion resistance. This study aimed to investigate the influences of process parameters on the microstructure and mechanical properties of CoCrFe NiTiMo HEAs using a laser-based powder bed fusion (LPBF) process. In terms of laser power and scan speed, a process map was constructed by evaluating the density and surface roughness of the as-built specimen to optimize the process parameters of the products. The mechanical properties of the as-built specimens fabricated at the optimum fabrication condition derived from the process map were evaluated. Consequently, the optimum laser power and scan speed could be obtained using the process map evaluated by density and surface roughness. The as-built specimen fabricated at the optimum fabrication condition presented a relative density of more than 99.8%. The microstructure of the as-built specimen exhibited anisotropy along the build direction. The tensile strength and elongation of the as-built specimen were around 1150 MPa and more than 20%, respectively.

    <p>Recently, high-entropy alloys have attracted much attention because of their superior properties such as high strength and corrosion resistance. The tensile properties of the as-built specimen obtained in this study are similar to those of the as-built specimen reported by other studies.</p>

    For the austenitic stainless steel of SUS316L and SUS304L, the braze pressure welding (BPW) was applied with variation in the total heating time 60s-660s, and with the cleaning temperature of 1280°C and 1180°C. To evaluate the corrosion resistance of the BPW joint interface, the reactivation rate, R, of sensitization was measured using the EPR test. For SUS316L, the reactivation value increased proportionally with the total heating time. For each total heating time, its reactivation value was comparable with that of SUS304L. For enough total heating time longer than 360s, R value stayed constant. The R value was suppressed with lowering cleaning temperature. The proportional increase in the reactivation rate indicates the sensitization of the austenitic stainless steel with the total heating time. SUS316L's R value was comparable with SUS304L. Therefore, the sensitization of the BPW joint might occur by other than the precipitation of the chromium carbides. The corrosion degradation of BPW joint could considered to be due to the delta ferrite formation at higher temperature than 1200°C followed by the decomposition into the sigma phase. The results of this research suggest the sensitization of BPW joint could be suppressed by shortening the total heating time.

    If C/C composites can form the joint with the heat resistant alloy, their application would expand. But the large mismatch in CTE of C/C and that of the heat resistant alloy prevent the formation of sound joints. In this research, Ni-based brazing filler and the interlayer is applied in brazing of C/C, which will relax the residual stress in the brazing interface. The obtained brazed joint was evaluated by the shear fracture test and SEM observation of its microstructure.

    When Al alloys and SUS304 steel are brazed in the air, the firm oxide films on the both surfaces formed become the obstacle against the sound-joint formation. In this research, It is investigated the effect of ratio of the ZnCl2 in the flux to the brazability of Al-alloys and SUS304 steel. As a result, approximately 10mass% of ZnCl2 improved the wettability. The addition of KF improves the flowability of the flux to yeild stronger brazing joints.

    Brazing of stainless steel to various aluminum alloys had been carried out using Al-Si brazing filler with flux in the air. The brazing properties changed remarkably with kinds of aluminum alloy, and most of the Al alloys showed poor braze-ability. The reason for the poor braze-ability is considered as the rapid isothermal solidification of the filler due to the reaction between the aluminum alloy base metal and the brazing filler. In order to clarify such brazing conditions for making sound joints of Al-alloys to stainless steel, the solidification time is estimated by the numerical analysis in case of Al-Si binary alloy system, and is also measured experimentally. In order to obtain the brazed joint between the Al alloys and stainless steel, the initial brazing filler layer and the holding time at the brazing temperature are presented based on the results.

    Braze Pressure Welding (BPW) with high frequency induction heating is a newly developed pressure welding technique using interlayer metals for welding the general steel pipes for pipe arrangement in buildings. At a joining temperature in this method, the melted interlayer removes contaminations from the joining surface of the base metal. Then the liquid filler is discharged from the joining interface by the joining pressure, and forms fillets at the gaps around the joint. The fillets have the effects both on relaxing the stress concentration at the joint and on increasing the joining area, which contribute to the strengthening of the joint. Thus, the high quality pipe joining without the dispersion in joint properties due to welder's skill can be performed. In this report, applicability of the BPW technology to austenitic stainless steel pipe joint is investigated and discussed on the results of microscopy and tensile tests of the joints.

    The selective laser melting(SLM) is a kind of additive manufacturing processes, which melts the thin powder layer selectively and forms 3D object by compiling many layers. To obtain the proper laser melting conditions for SLM process, the prediction of thermal field around the scanning laser spot is necessary. In this paper, a finite element method of transient heat conduction analysis is proposed to predict the thermal field. It is based on the energy conservation equation for enthalpy of bulk metal, powder metal and once-melt-and-solidified powder metal. The method includes the phenomena of melting and solidification of powder metal. The numerical simulation using this method is applied for Ni-based refractory alloy, Inconel-718, and the results of the simulation is presented with temperature contours and dimensions of melt pool.Ⅲ.論文集

    C/C composites plate was brazed to Ni-based alloy, Inconel-600 plate using Fe-Cr-Ni-(Si,P) brazing filler metal with various thickness of Nb foil inserted. Niobium foil was solved into the brazing filler layer and precipitated along the C/C composites&#039; surface. Although, Nb layer remained in the brazed interface was thinner than the original Nb foil thickness, it acted as the stress relief layer. The shear strength of brazed joint varied with the remained Nb layer&#039;s thickness. The shear strength increased for the brazed joint with 100μm of Nb layer, but once dropped for the joint with 200μm. The FEM analysis revealed that the shear strength of brazed joint monotonously increase with Nb layer&#039;s thickness. The microstructure in the brazing filler layer was considered to contribute to the tendency of the shear strength with Nb layer thickness.

    はんだ合金のぬれのメカニズムを知るため,コーン・プレート型回転粘度計を用いて,純Snの流動特性を調べた.コーンとプレートの材質はSnと反応しないグラファイトが選択された.その結果,酸化した溶融Snがグラファイトコーンに付着するなどの現象が起き,純Snの酸化が流動特性に及ぼす影響が検出された.

    Carbon-carbon composites were brazed to a Ni-based super-alloy (Inconel 600) using a Fe-Cr-Ni filler metal (TB-2720) with a Nb interlayer at 1080℃ for 300s in vacuum 1.33×10^<-2>Pa {1.0×10^<-4>Torr}. The Nb foil with various thicknesses from 0.1 to 0.5 mm was inserted in the brazing interface to relieve residual stress. The metallurgical microstructure of the brazed joint interface was observed through the scanning electron microscope (SEM). By analyzing with the energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), the constituents' distribution at the brazed interface was measured. A crack due to residual stress was formed in the C/C composites near the brazed interface of specimens with thinner Nb foil than 0.2mm. The results suggest that in order to release enough residual stress, the Nb foil must be thicker than 0.2mm. When the foil thickness was 0.5mm, the shear strength of the joint was 9.63MPa.

    The braze-pressure-welding was conducted for the SUS316L and SUS304L austenitic steel pipes with various total heating time. The BPW's cleaning step was at 1280℃ with keeping time of 60-360s. The forging process was at 1180℃ with keeping time of 0-60s. For the cross section taken from the parts with distance of 0-20mm from the joint interface, the EPR tests were conducted EPR test was conducted to measure the degree of the sensitization of stainless steel. The cross section on the joint interface, the reactivation value was more than 10% indicating that part was sensitized, on the other parts, the values were lower than 1% and no sign of sensitization was suggested.

    The friction joining of an alumina-whisker-reinforced aluminum matrix composites bar to a zirconia bar was conducted numerically and experimentally. The numerical analysis was the thermal-elastic-plastic analysis solved using the FEM. The heat input in the numerical analysis was calculated from the results of experiment to make the numerical temperature history agree to the experimental values. The obtained principal strain direction distribution showed the circular band. This band shape was observed by optical microscopy as in agreeing with the whisker distribution in the vicinity of the joint interface.

    The amount of the carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRJP) increases in the structure use of the civilian passenger aircraft. But the light weight metals are still widely used in the aircraft structure. So the joint of the CFRP and light weight metals are required. Currently, the most major and practical joint method for CFRP and metals is the rivet fastening. Conventional rivet fasteners' materials for the aerospace use are aluminum alloys and titanium alloys. When the CFRP is fastened to the metals by rivets, the galvanic corrosion is of concern, because the CFRP contains the carbon fiber which has the electric conductivity. In this research, to examine the possibility of galvanic corrosion at the CFRP/metal rivet joint, the polarization potential was measured for the pure titanium and the CFRP in the 5wt%NaCl aqueous solution. The polarization potential was recorded for 24 hours. But the current was almost none. The passive layer of the titanium is considered to prevent the corrosion in the NaCl aqueous solution.

    Erosion and Corrosion damage of stainless steel is caused by a molten lead-free solder in reflow and flow soldering bath. This phenomenon influences the operation periods and replacing timing of the components. Viscosity measurements of the molten Sn-Bi solder in carbon cell had been carried out to detect the change of rotation torque of stainless steel 304 cone plate with dissolving into the solder. The operation temperature was 160 degree Celsius, and shear speed was 105.6 rpm. An increase of rotation torque was observed about 200 min after from dipping of the cone plate into molten solder. After the viscosity test, a scanning electron microscope equipped with EDX observation of the surface of stainless steel cone plate contacted with the solder had been carried out. In the observed area of the plate, Sn and Bi elements could not be found out. Thus, this phenomenon was caused by elution of Fe elements of stainless steel into Sn, and it was identified with the increase of the liquids line of the tested solder. In addition, we tried to discuss about interface energy of cluster model calculated by Fermi energy because of the view viscosity is related to of their value of interface energy.

    Carbon/carbon composites plate is brazed to Ni-base super alloy, Inconel 600 using Fe-Cr base brazing filler. The Fe-Cr base brazing filler slurry was pasted on the C/C composites surface. The brazed surface of C/C composites was the cross section of laminates to make the residual thermal stress induced by the mismatch in the coefficient of thermal expansion. The brazing temperature was 1,050°C and the keeping time was 300s. The cooled specimen had crack just below the brazing interface inside of C/C composites. But the observation of microstructure revealed the sound bonding between the brazing filler layer and C/C composites. The Ni-base super alloy seemed to experience the dissolve and solidification process during the brazing. The diffusion of P in the Fe-Cr base alloy took the major role in formation of the microstructure.

    In general, the diffusion-bonded joint of hard and brittle materials has the low impact resistance. The grain-boundary arranged flatly near the former mating surface is considered to suppress the toughness of the diffusion-bonded joint. In order to improve its impact resistance, the phase-transformation was deliberately induced to encourage the displacement of the grain-boundary at the bonding interface. The tool steel (SKD61 in JIS) square bars were diffusion-bonded at higher temperature than the austenitizing temperature, followed by the various heat treatment to induce the martensitic, bainitic and pearlitic transformations. By the martensitic transformation after the diffusion bonding process, the joints had the comparable Charpy impact value with the bulk material which experienced the same heat treatment. The optical observation of the microstructure revealed that the flat grain-boundary was vanished due to the growth of the martensitic microstructure. The results showed the effectiveness of the successive phase transformation process just after the diffusion bonding process.

    For the future construction of the large scale space platform on the earth orbit, the structural engineering materials with the high specific strength and modulus is required to braze in space. The combination of carbon/carbon composites and titanium is one of those candidates. In the brazing process of the combination, the infiltration of the brazing filler occurs and it is harmful to the joint's characteristics. In this research, a 2-D laminated C/C composites plates with cross-ply angle of [0°/90°]S, [+45°/-45°]S and [30°/-60°]S were prepared. They were brazed to pure titanium tablet in the vacuum using the active brazing filler of Ag-32.25Cu-1.75Ti at 830℃ for 300s. The shear strength of the brazed joint was measured by the tensile shear rupture test. All of the obtained joints were fractured at the bulk C/C composites. On the case of [0°/90°] cross-ply laminated C/C composites, the shear strength reached to the maximum value up to 24MPa. The cross sections of the brazed joints were observed by optically and through SEM. The brazing filler was infiltrated along the fiber. The infiltrated brazing filler was not acted as anchors but the crack initiation points.

    There are difficulties to obtain the sound joint by brazing of the carbon-fiber-reinforced carbon (CFC) composites and refractory metals. Those difficulties are caused by the CFC composites' strong anisotropy in mechanical properties, especially in the thermal expansion coefficient. In this research, the proper orientation of CFC composites to the brazing interface is investigated. A cross-ply laminate CFC composites plate was cut with various angles to the fiber direction. Their end faces were perpendicular to the laminate direction. The end face was brazed to pure titanium disk in the vacuum. The active brazing filler of Ag-32.25Cu-1.75Ti (Cusil-ABA[○!R], Wesgo Metals) was used. The brazing temperature was at 830℃, and the keeping time was 300s. For the brazed joint, the tensile joint strength and the shear joint strength were measured. When the angle of fiber direction and the brazing interface was 45℃, the joint tensile joint strength reached to the maximum value. So did the shear strength of the brazed joint.

    The ultra-thin palladium membrane was diffusion-bonded with the austenitic stainless steel SUS304 disks at various temperature and with the bonding time of 1,800s under the pressure of 0.2 MPa. The cross sections of the joined interface were examined using FE-SEM. The element distribution showed that the counter diffusion between the Pd membrane and SUS304 austenitic stainless steel was not occurred apparently at the bonding temperature of 1,000℃. But at 1,100℃, the counter diffusion made the Pd membrane totally change into the intermetallic compound. According to the results, the nominal diffusion coefficient of Pd/SUS304 was obtained.

    It was investigated that effect of the thermal history during the braze-pressure-welding process for the austenitic stainless steel to its sensitization property. The SUS304 austenitic stainless steel pipes were joined using the braze-pressure-welding method with the induction heating. The cleaning metal, or insert metal, was the Fe-base alloy (Fe(Bal.)-20Cr-l0Ni-3Si- 2.5B-1Mo). For the cross section samples of the pipe wall with various distance from the joint interface, the degree of the sensitization was measured using the EPR method. The grain size of the samples was also measured to modify the degree of the sensitization. The value of the sensitization was high at the vicinity of the joint interface, but it dropped with the distance. It was shown that the severe sensitization did not occur by the BPW process.

    Carbon-carbon composites were brazed to a pure titanium using a Ag-Cu-Ti filler metal (Cusil-ABA^<[○!R]>) at 830℃ for 60s or 300s in vacuum of 1.0×10^<-4> Torr. The microstructure of the brazed joint interface was observed through the optical microscope and the scanning electron microscope (SEM). By analyzing with the energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), the constituents' distribution at the brazed interface was measured. Those observations and analyses revealed that the yarns of C/C composites were disbanded into the carbon fibers, and that the carbon fibers were corroded. The titanium included not only in the brazing filler metal but also in the bulk metal which diffused into the molten brazing filler metal formed the carbide to corrode the C/C composites. The corrosion was more severe for the brazed joint made by a longer brazing time. These results suggest that the brazing time must be shorter to obtain the stronger brazed joint for C/C composites and titanium.

    The downsizing of the electronic devices has been achieved by downsizing of the electronic power modules and the circuits for high-frequencies. Those modules require the more miniaturizations in the solenoid parts, e,g, choke coil, or transformer. The so-called micro solenoids are expected to be made by winding the ultra-fine electronic wire with diameter of several tens of micrometers. But the ultra-fine electronic wire has less tensile and bending strength and melt during the conventional soldering process. Therefore, besides the ultrasonic bonding and the soldering, a new fixing method is developed for the ultra-fine electronic wire. The proposed method is called the micro-mechanical joining, by which the ultra-fine wire is mechanically held to the electronic terminal. The detailed method including the shape of the terminal and the protocol is described in this article. The smallness in the wire distortion is shown. The joint strength tests are conducted and the enough strength comparable to that of the base metal wire is obtained.

    It is important to prevent from hydrogen embrittlement cracking in the heat-affected zone of welded steels. The hydrogen permeation rate for bulk nickel at high temperatures is higher than that of stainless steel, although the reverse is true at low temperatures. Low carbon stainless 316L steel, which contained 12-15% nickel, was selected as the parent material for welding. We have investigated the affect of nickel near the heat-affected zone by measuring the hydrogen permeation at various temperatures. We performed hydrogen permeation tests into the bead on plate specimens using nickel filler. A stationary hydrogen gas flux through the stainless steel specimen was measured by using an orifice and a quadrupole mass spectrometer (QMS). The partial pressure difference for hydrogen that was applied to the specimen was able to be kept constant by maintaining a constant gas flow rate through the orifice in a low- pressure room. An orifice with a 3 mm diameter maintained stationary steady-state hydrogen gas flux from the specimen at 620K, while a 1.2 mm diameter orifice maintained the steady pressure at 520 K. The hydrogen permeability, K was calculated based on the measured steady-state hydrogen gas fluxes at various temperatures. These results plotted as log K versus 1/T (reciprocal temperature) could not be interpolated linearly. The permeability values of the specimen at 570 K and 520 K were less than interpolated ones between the value at 620 K and the value at 520K of the 316 L stainless steel substrate as received.

    The braze pressure welding (BPW) of the austenitic stainless pipe is conducted under the various joining condition with various filler metal; two Fe-based filler metals, four Ni-based filler metals and their mixture are used. With CR3B Fe-based filler metal, the metallographic observation and the elemental analysis reveal the formation of sound joint. This joint has the enough tensile strength demanded for the commercial standard. The distribution of Cr around the joint interface is not uniform, which might lower the corrosion resistance. The mixture of filler metals forms the residual layer in the joint interface which weakens the joint. The higher joining pressure and the uniformity of the temperature distribution around the joint interface contribute to the formation of sound joint. The usage of Fe-based filler metal with richer Cr and Mo as minor element and the higher joining pressure is considered to provide the better condition.

    We suppose an idea to estimate wettability of solder. It assumes that solder-melt form some clusters in solidification process. Wettability of solder was estimated by calculating an interfacial energy of the cluster, and viscosity was reported on the experimental results for verifying this idea. Viscosity of Sn-Bi solder was measured at temperature range from 150℃ to 210℃. The results that the characteristics of Sn-Bi solder as dilant fluid decreases with temperature increased at temperature range from 150℃ to 155℃ were obtained. Above 155℃, the characteristics of the solder melt became as Newton fluid. These results indicates that the clusters are recognized in the Sn-Bi solder-melt at temperatures between 150 and 155℃.

    Nano cluster diamond (NCD) dispersed amorphous hydrogenated carbon (a-C:H) film was formed 440C stainless steel using radio frequency (RF) plasma chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method. For 5-hours coating with the applied bias voltage changed, the formed film became 5 times as thick as that coated for 1 hour. The distribution of NCD in the film's depth was surveyed by the glow discharge optical emission spectrometry profiling. Two strain gauge sensors that put on a thin spherical shell equipped with reciprocal sliding tester detect the difference of the strains in sliding directions. The pin-on-disk test using these sensors was performed to examine the lubricity on the surface.

    Braze Pressure Welding (BPW) with high frequency induction heating is a newly developed pressure welding technique using brazing filler as interlayer metals for welding the general steel pipes for pipe arrangement in buildings. In this report, stainless steel pipes were joined by BPW with some kinds of interlayer metals, and the joint of the pipes made by BPW were evaluated by microscopy, element profiles and tensile strength of the joints in order to determine the suitable interlayer metal for BPW of stainless steel pipes. As the result of this research, the BPW joint using BNi-2 as interlayer metal was stronger with less melting of base metal than that of the BNi-5. A newly developed Fe-base interlayer metal was also suitable for BPW of stainless steel pipes.

    In order to investigate the reason why the brazing of dissimilar metals between aluminum alloys and stainless steel in the air, the brazing of various aluminum alloys to stainless steel were carried out using Al-Si brazing filler and the behavior of brazed interface was examined. As the result, the cause to make the brazing difficult is shown that the brazing filler is rapidly solidified isothermally due to the invasion of Zn into the brazing area from the flux, before the wetting of the brazing filler to stainless steel. Based on these phenomena, the two types of new joining method that brazing could be made were suggested and the practical applicability was tried.

    The more miniaturization is demanded from electronic parts as microelectronics develops, and the electric wire that composes them is thinner. However, there is a difficulty to connect electric wire and the terminal, because thin electric wire is breakable and melting easily. In these cases, such a joining method is effective as the plastic deformation is used and wrapped about the joint part on the terminal side by giving neither the transform nor heating such an electric wire, and to call this micro joining technology based on a new conception the micro mechanical joining method. In this paper, it was found that micro mechanical joining can fix the electric wire by plastic deformation experiment and FEM analysis.

    In order to clarify such brazing conditions for making sound joints of Al-alloys to stainless steel as to wet the Al-Si brazing filler on the stainless steel before rapid isothermal solidification of the filler, the solidification time is estimated by the numerical analysis and is also measured experimentally. The numerical analysis is conducted for the brazing process of the A1050 pure aluminum base metal and BA4045 aluminum-silicon brazing filler. The analysis contains both the initial dissolution of the base metal by the molten brazing filler and the following isothermal solidification behavior. The movement of the solid-liquid interface is calculated and the total solidification time is estimated. The brazing experiment between the same combination of metals shows the total solidification time is much less than the numerically estimated time. The element analysis by EPMA indicates that the zinc in the flux plays the dominant role in the brazing process. According to the results, the time to solidify the brazing filler layer is 30×10^<-3>H^2 s, where H is the initial brazing filler layer width in μm. To obtain the brazed joint between the Al alloys and stainless steel, the initial brazing filler layer of at least 30μm and the holding time of at least 30 s at the brazing temperature are considered to be suitable for the brazing.

    Brazing of stainless steel to various aluminium alloys had been carried out using Al - Si filler and flux in air. The brazing properties changed remarkably with kinds of aluminium alloy. Also in the aluminium alloy of the same kind, brazing property changed remarkably by the change of a slight temperature. It was considered that these phenomena are due to the composition of base metals and the filler metal, the difference in the surface structure, and also the melting and solidification behavior by the reaction between the aluminium alloy base metal and the filler.

    Braze Pressure Welding (BPW) had been invented as the new joining method for the ordinary steel piping. BPW is the pressure welding with high frequency induction heating using the brazing filler as the interlayer metals. In the general idea of BPW, the liquid interlayer metals clear the joining surfaces, which are considered to be covered with the contamination layer of the oxide films and so on. The joining pressure discharges the liquid interlayer metals involving the oxide films from the joining interfaces. In addition, it forms the fillets around the joint. The base metals with cleared joining surfaces are pressure-welded by the relatively low joining pressure. Thus in BPW, the interlayer metals play an important role in welding the high performance joint. In this paper, the clearing property of the interlayer metals on the joining surfaces for clarifying the joining phenomenon was discussed. It was confirmed by the observation of the clearing effect, and the discharge of the inclusions produced by oxide films by the interlayer metals and the miniaturization of the inclusions by optical microscope and the EPMA analysis.

    The 4-pipe-barzed specimen is used to obtain the strength of the brazed joint of the rocket nozzle skirt wall, which is made by the pipe works joined by brazing. The influence of the fillet shape to the strength of the 4-pipe-brazed specimen is numerically estimated by the finite element method with the non-linear static elastic-plastic analysis. The fillet shape is represented by the apparent fillet width and the clearance between the pipes. As far as the variation of the shape assumed in this research, the von Misee' equivalent stress in the fillet reaches to its tensile strength by the smaller nominal strain than the pipe, and rupture might always occur at the fillet. For the constant apparent fillet width of 1.0 and 2.0mm, the maximum nominal strain to rupture has the smaller extreme at clearance of 200μm.

    The temperature field during the friction welding process is numerically estimated. The friction welding process of SUS304 stainless steels is analyzed using the finite element method. The heat coefficient A_l is proposed for the frictional heating: q_o=A_l(3Q)/(4πR^6)r. The A_l value is deduced from the experimentally obtained temperature history of several points on the specimen's surface. The heat input surface is translated with time evolution to reflect the discharge of the weld flush from the joining interface. To decide the A_l value and the translation length of the heat input surface, the frictional joining experiment is conducted for SUS304 stainless steel bars, and the temperature history and the compression length of the specimen are measured. The obtained A_l values are varied with time. By using the Ai values and the compression length as the translation length of the heat input surface, the precisely identical temperature distribution can be calculated.

    The erosion of Ni baaed alloy substrate to the convection of the molten 54mas8%Ag-21ma88%Cu-25masB%Pd (BPd-6) brazing filler metal is numerically analyzed. During the brazing process using BPd-6 with organic binder, the binder is heated by radiation to form the slag floating on the molten brazing filler metal surface. The slag becomes the heat spot which might induce the Marangoni convection of the molten brazing filler metal. The numerical analysis of flow and temperature fields of the molten brazing filler metal reveals that the Marangoni convection occur on the case of the slag temperature of 1,050℃ and 1,010℃ on the 1,000℃ molten BPd-6. The flow is the well-up type around the slag. The substrate is considered to be eroded by the combination of the metallurgical dissolution and the Marangoni convection. The eroded pif s depth is quantitatively estimated from the total flux of the molten BPd-6 flown over the substrate surface is quantitatively.

    The Braze-Pressure-Welding with induction heating (BPW) has been developed as a new welding method for joining ordinary steel pipes. In the BPW, a brazing filler interlaid between the mating surfaces melts at the joining temperature, then it is discharged from the joining interface by the welding pressure. The base metals are pressure-welded to each other, and the fillets are formed around the joining area by the discharged filler metals. In the previous papers, it was confirmed that the fillets made only at the outer side of joint area of pipes could relax the stress concentration by finite element analysis. In this paper, it was revealed that the even small fillets made at the both sides of joint area of pipes can relax the stress concentration, and that the fillet transfers the maximum stress site from the edge of the joining interface to the touching point of the fillet and the base material.

    Fractal dimension for the ductile fractured surface ruptured at the joint interface is investigated. The simple relationship between the fractal dimension and the dimple size frequency distribution function has been shown analytically as D=α/2. To validate the analytical relationship, the surface profiles of the dimple covered ductile surfaces are virtually formed and their fractal dimension values are calculated. The size distribution of the dimples contained in the formed surface profile is subjected to the power function of the dimple size. Those dimples are arranged randomly. The calculated fractal dimension has qualitatively similar tendency toward the exponent of the distribution function but quantitatively different values. The difference might suggest the necessity of some structure to arrange the dimples.

    It is necessary to reduce the hydrogen permeation through the welded joint in order to improve reliability of vacuum apparatus. For the base metal and the weld test specimens of stainless steel SUS304 of various thicknesses, hydrogen permeation quantification tests were carried out. As the result, it was revealed that the permeation quantity at the weld zone was about 4&acd;6 times of that of the base material. The relationship between the hydrogen permeation quantity and plate thickness was analyzed on the basis of diffusion theory, which showed that the hydrogen permeation flux was inversely proportional to the plate thickness, and this almost agreed with the experimental results.

    Braze Pressure Welding (B. P. W.) with high frequency induction heating has been invented as the new joining method for bonding general steel pipes for piping. The piping with B. P. W. has many merits as follows : small deformation at joint, less influence by heating around the joint, the fillets formed on the steps at the edge of joint. Especially the fillet relaxes the stress concentration, and makes the tensile strength of piping comparable to that of base metal. B. P. W. requires less skill for joining, so tensile strength of piping has less variation by welders. It has high work efficiency, and high portability without large equipments. The less potential danger of fire enables on-site B. P. W.' application even for indoor piping and repairing.

    The origin of fractal characteristics of the ductile fractured surface is investigated. The dimples covering the ductile fractured surface are considered as the elements to form the fractal geometry. And the relationship of the dimple size distribution on the ductile fractured surface and its fractal dimension is investigated. Under the assumption that the distribution density function of dimple size on the ductile surface is subjected to the power law of the dimple size, and that a dimple has the cosine curve shape, the formulation of fractal dimension described with the term of the exponent of the power law distribution density function. Experimentally the relationship is confirmed for the fractured surface of cupper brazed steel joint, which has the feature ductile fractured surface without too large deformation. The result of this researc h could contribute to make clear the generating process of dimple covered ductile surface.

    One of the factors to make an ultra high vacuum apparatus is to reduce the gas permeation through the welded joint. In order to clarify the contribution of surface conditions and the diffusion in specimen, the hydrogen gas permeation through the stainless steel with variation in thickness is investigated. As a result, the significant difference is observed in the tendency of the gas permeation rate in transient process and the value of the permeation rate at the steady state. The results suggest the surface condition have the large effect to the gas permeation rate. The analysis of these results might lead to the clarification of the effect of the diffusion through the bulk material and the surface conditions to the gas permeation phenomena through the welded joint of the stainless steel.

    For development of the friction welding with smaller change in shapes, the prediction of plastic flow behavior during the friction welding process is required. Plastic flow behavior of aluminium alloy with the temperature distribution was numerically analyzed dynamically. The plastic flow behavior was calculated with the finite element method for the elasto-plastic material. The change of temperature distribution was analyzed with unsteady state heat conduction equation. The analysis was conducted with various welding parameters, including the friction pressure, friction time and the speed of rotation. The results of the numerical analysis were compared with the experimental results obtained by the friction welding with the same parameters.

    The reason that the ductile fracture surface bears the fractal characteristics is investigated. The dimple shape covering the ductile surface is assumed to the sinusoidal curve and the dimple size distribution density function is considered to be able to describe by the power of the dimple size.     YBa_2Cu_3O_<7-x> bulk superconductors (YBCO) are joined with insertion of the YBa_2Cu_3O_<7-x> superconductor (YbBCO) added with Ag_2O as the interlayer, which has lower peritectic temperature than the YBCO. The amount of Ag_2O addition is varied from none to 44 mass%. At high temperature under loading, the good joint is obtained. The shear strength of joints increases with addition of Ag_2O. The higher joining temperature, the stronger joint is obtained. The critical current density through the joint is maximum at the rage of 10〜30 mass% of Ag_2O addition. On the other side, the bulk material of the mixture of YBCO and YbBCO has the intermediate value of the critical temperature between the value of YBCO and YbBCO. It might suggest that the addition of the YBCO to this interlayer have the better characteristics as the superconductor.

    At the joint of the ordinary piping of the carbon steel using the conventional welding methods or the mechanical joining, the formation of step is hard to avoid, which causes the stress concentration. We proposed the new welding method of the braze-pressure-welding (B.P.W) by the electromagnetic induction heating. The process uses the brazing filler material inserted at the joint interface, which is expected to fill the step to form fillet. It is considered to relief the stress concentration. In this research, the validity of the fillet is evaluated by the stress analysis using the finite element method. The carbon steel pipes are welded by this B.P.W. method in the air. The method to avoid the hard oxidation of the pipe is also proposed. At the joint, the oxidation is slightly occurred and the fillet is formed. The EDS analysis of the distribution of the atomic contents shows the brazing filler is ejected out of the joint interface. The tensile test yields the joint has the comparable strength with the bulk material.

    In order to clarify the effect of surface conditions such as the oxide layer on the hydrogen permeation through the welded area of stainless steel, the permeability of stainless steels including welded area with the oxide layer which was made by heating in air was investigated. Permeation tests were conducted in such conditions as stainless steels with oxide layer only on high-pressure side where hydrogen gas was filled, or only on low-pressure side, or on the both sides. Permeability coefficient of welded stainless steels with oxide layer was different from stainless steels without oxide layer. Especially the permeability of the specimen with oxide layer on high-pressure side increased. This suggested that the permeation was considerably accelerated by adsorption of hydrogen gas on the oxide layer of the specimen.

    In order to develop joining methods maintaining mechanical strength and superconducting property, YBCO bulk superconductors were joined using YbBCO, which had lower peritectic temperature than YBCO, added Ag_2O as interlayer. As results of joining tests under such conditions that Ag_2O content added to YbBCO was 0〜44mass% and that joining temperature was 940℃〜1020℃, the joint strength increased in accordance with the joining temperature increase. Critical current density showed maximum value in case using the YbBCO interlayer added 10〜30mass%. Because of the boids made at the joint, strength of joint was inferior to that of matrix, however, it was suggested that joint properties could be improved by selecting the joining time and pressure properly.

    On Plastic flow behavior of Al at the Al-Ceramic friction-welded joints, the coupled deformation and heat flow analysis by finite element method was conducted. In the temperature field, it was demonstrated that the temperature increased at first on the friction surface, where the temperature in outside became higher than that in center. With the frictional time increasing, temperature increased whole site in Al. The deformation of Al became larger near the friction surface, and on the different welding conditions, the size of deformation was changed. In the plastic flow field, the flow direction was changed from the vertical direction to the friction surface to the parallel direction near the friction surface.

    The carbon steel pipes for ordinary piping whose joints apt to have steps and stress concentration because of low accuracy for diameters and thickness, were pressure-welded using brazing filler by high frequency heating. Effect of the fillet produced at the step which is made by brazing filler extruded from the interface of joints on the joint strength, was examined by tensile tests and numerical analysis. According to tensile test, the strength of joints increased as fillet enlarged. It was confirmed by SEM/EDS analysis that brazing filler was extruded from the interface of joints, and different size of fillet was produced in accordance with the thickness of brazing filler. It was revealed that brazing filler filled the step and that the fillet relaxed the stress concentration to increase the strength of steel-pipe joints made by pressure welding using brazing filler at the joint interface.

    Ductile-brittle transition of the material fracture is studied in terms of the fractal dimension measured on the fractured surface. The tensile fracture tests are conducted for notched round bar specimens made of carbon steels. The notch radius and the carbon content of materials are changed to produce the ductile-brittle transition in the fracture. The fractal dimension is correlated with the absorbed energy. Two distinct regions appear in the plots of fractal dimension vs. absorbed energy : the fractal dimension for brittle fracture surface varies with observing scale, while that for ductile fracture remains almost constant. The variation in fractal dimension for brittle fracture surfaces can be interpreted by the size effect of brittle fracture.

    A dissimilar material joint between a Ni-based alloy and a C/C composites was obtained using a Ni-based brazing filler alloy by inserting a porous interlayer fabricated by the laser powder bed fusion (PBF-LB), which was expected to relief the residual stress. In the course of the research, a numerical calculation method was developed to simulate the PBF-LB process considering the melt solidification phenomenon in order to confirm the modeling accuracy possible with PBF-LB, and the minimum thickness was estimated to be about twice the laser spot diameter. The CTE value of Ni-based brazing material was measured in the range of 100-1100 °C to obtain basic data for brazing joint strength prediction. It was also clarified that the change in the powder bed temperature during the PBF-LB process was large enough to require modification of the molding conditions.

    For C/C composites/Ni-based refractory metal high quality joining, Ni-based alloy was made. 58Ni-20Cr-22Si alloy and 57Ni-20Cr-22Si alloy had good wettability on both C/C composites and Inconel-600 Ni-base alloy. These Ni-base alloy had the liquidus temperature lower than 1200&ordm;C and can be used for high temperature brazing. The shear strength of C/C composites/Inconel-600 brazed joint with these metals was 2MPa. Crack was observed in C/C composites near joint interface. Enhancement of joint strength is considered to be due to the residual stress by CTE value difference between C/C composites and Inconel-600. By inserting Nb foil in the mating surfaces, the joint strength was improved. The interfacial bonding is, however, sound between both C/C composites and these alloys and Inconel-600 and these alloys, and with these alloys, high quality bonding is considered to be able to achieve.

    In order to develop joining methods maintaining mechanical strength and superconducting property, YBCO(Y123) bulk superconductors were joined using YbBCO(Yb123), which had lower peritectic temperature than YBCO, added Ag2O as interlayer. The concept of the joining method in this study is based on the fact that the peritectic formation temperature(TP) of Yb123 is about 50K lower than that of Y123. The Samples were heated at about 1293K(above TP of Y123) for 10 minutes and slowly cooled down to 1198K.The microstructures of the joints revealed that Y element diffused from the bulk to the joining layers and Yb diffused from the joining layers to the bulk, and the joining part seemed to become more dense. As results of joining tests under such conditions that Ag2O content added to YbBCO was 0〜44 mass % and that joining temperature was 1213K 〜1293K, the joint strength increased in accordance with the joining temperature increase. Critical current density showed maximum value in case using the YbBCO interlayer added 10〜30 mass %Ag2O.Because of the boids occurred at the joint area, strength of the joint was inferior to that of the matrix, however, it was suggested that joint properties could be improved by selecting the joining time and pressure conditions. The possibility to improve the joining property of Y123 bulk was shown by use of Yb123 interlayer.
