    Hydrogen impurities significantly influence the electrical conductivity of oxide semiconductors such as MgIn2O4, widely used in devices such as thin-film transistors. However, their role and chemical environment have not been fully clarified. This study investigated the conductivity of MgIn2O4 at elevated temperatures under air and H2 atmospheres, revealing higher and reversible conductivity in H2 due to hydrogen dissolution. Hall measurements, thermal desorption spectrometry, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy revealed that hydrogen dissolves in MgIn2O4, ionizing to produce electrons and interstitial protons. Density functional theory calculations indicate that hydrogen stabilizes near vacant octahedral cation sites, forming O–H bonds and shallow donor levels. Indium atoms at magnesium sites lead to shallow donor levels, whereas oxygen vacancies form deep levels. The results identify interstitial hydrogen and indium atoms at magnesium sites, rather than oxygen vacancies, as key donors under H2-rich or low oxygen conditions, providing insights for controlling the conductivity of MgIn2O4 in devices.

    Abstract Hollandite‐type α‐MnO2 exhibits exceptional promise in current industrial applications and in advancing next‐generation green energy technologies, such as multivalent (Mg2+, Ca2+, and Zn2+) ion battery cathodes and aerobic oxidation catalysts. Considering the slow diffusion of multivalent cations within α‐MnO2 tunnels and the catalytic activity at edge surfaces, ultrasmall α‐MnO2 particles with a lower aspect ratio are expected to unlock the full potential. In this study, ultrasmall α‐MnO2 (<10 nm) with a low aspect ratio (c/a ≈ 2) is synthesized using a newly developed alcohol solution process. This material demonstrates exceptional performance across various multivalent battery systems, primarily due to the significantly reduced cation diffusion distance. Notably, an ultrasmall α‐MnO2‐graphene composite achieves high capacity with low overpotential when paired with an F‐free electrolyte in Ca battery. Regarding aerobic oxidation catalysis, the nanosizing of α‐MnO2 has a profound impact on aerobic oxidation catalysis. The increased efficiency of oxidative conversion reactions, such as the oxidation of 1‐phenylethanol, is attributed to the greatly expanded active surface area of the catalyst. The versatile functionality of ultrasmall α‐MnO2 underscores its potential to revolutionize energy storage and catalysis, offering broad applicability in next‐generation green energy technologies.

    Mn-based transition metal oxide nanoparticles are promising candidates as cathode active materials for rechargeable magnesium batteries, but their high catalytic activity for oxidative electrolyte decomposition and large surface area deteriorate their cycle performance. A recent study [Yagi et al., J. Mater. Chem. A, 2021, 9, 26401–26409] demonstrated that the catalytic activity was less prominent in Fe-based oxides than in other transition metal oxides, containing Mn. Fe-based oxides show low catalytic activity for oxidative electrolyte decomposition compared with Mn-based congeners. The strong capability of oxalate ions for bridging transition metal ions was utilised to form thin, uniform Fe2O3 layers on nanoparticles of MgMn2O4 and α-MnO2. The resulting Fe2O3 layers effectively suppressed side reactions during insertion and extraction of the Mg2+ ions and improved the capacity retention and cycle performance.

    This study focuses on the cation intercalation of structurally unique compounds synthesized from the partial dehydration and deprotonation of coordinated water molecules in hydrous materials. Partial dehydration can potentially result in hydrous materials with a porous nature, which maintains the parent structure of the material, and deprotonation causes oxidation in the hydrous materials. Li-intercalation experiments were conducted on the hydrous iron(II) phosphate mineral, vivianite (Fe2+3(PO4)2·8H2O), and its oxidized and partially dehydrated product, santabarbaraite. Vivianite comprises two-dimensional Fe3(PO4)2 sheets and coordinated water molecules. The oxidation progress of the Fe2+ of vivianite increased cathodic capacities up to 156 mA h g-1. The Li-intercalation reaction rate increased significantly owing to dehydration because the partial dehydration of vivianite created structural space for the diffusion of Li+. Furthermore, X-ray diffraction measurements revealed that Li intercalation did not cause the formation of byproducts.

    Abstract Fragility is a fundamental property of glass-forming liquids. Here, we evaluated the liquid fragility and structural and dynamic heterogeneity of glassy solids for four model binary alloys. The most fragile alloy exhibited the maximum dynamic heterogeneity in the mechanical unfreezing process. The local atomic order contributed to structural and dynamic heterogeneities in the glassy solid. We observed that atomic displacement significantly correlated with degrees of clustering of local atomic orders. The clustering produced during the glass-forming quenching process enhanced structural and dynamic heterogeneities, especially in fragile glass alloys. Therefore, this alloy system exhibited correlations among liquid fragility, dynamic heterogeneity in liquid alloys, and dynamic and structural heterogeneities in glassy solids. We discussed the underlying physics of the correlation based on a theoretical model for fragility. These structural and dynamic analyses also provided deeper insights into the features of structural heterogeneity in glassy solids. The alloy with the most fragility exhibited the largest difference in atomic mobility between the densely and loosely packed local atomic orders, implying the greatest heterogeneity in the degree of packing density.

    Magnesium rechargeable batteries (MRBs) have attracted considerable attention since Aurbach et al. first proposed the prototype.1 Magnesium (Mg) can be used as the active material in the negative electrode, and has a high theoretical capacity (2205 mAh g-1) and volumetric capacity (3833 mAh cm-3), the lowest standard electrode potential (−2.36 V vs. standard hydrogen electrode) among metals useable in air, and a relatively low tendency to form dendrites.2,3 Recently, several kinds of active materials that can be used as positive electrodes have been proposed to enhance the energy density of MRBs. As described in a previous report, we have demonstrated that the Mg spinel oxide, MgCo2O4, undergoes an Mg2+ ion insertion/extraction at a relatively high potential (~2.9 V vs. Mg/Mg2+).4 In addition, spinel oxides such as MgMn2O4, MgFe2O4, MgCr2O4, and Co3O4 have also been investigated, with promising results. Although the stability of the electrolytes has been considerably improved,5 the present electrolytes are more or less anodically decomposed on the surface of the positive electrode above ~3 V vs. Mg/Mg2+. This is insufficient for the charge (oxidation) of the positive electrode active materials with redox potentials higher than ~2.5 V vs. Mg/Mg2+. Previous studies concerning electrolytes and positive electrode active materials indicate that the variation in the active material type changes the anodic current associated with the oxidative electrolyte decomposition. Therefore, in the present study, we investigate the catalytic activity of the transition metal ions in the Mg spinel oxides for anodic electrolyte decomposition, specifically by replacing the Mn ions in MgMn2O4 and Co ions in MgCo2O4 with Fe.6 Cyclic voltammograms for Mg(Mn1-xFex)2O4 were measured using a three-electrode cell at a scan rate of 25 μV s-1 in the potential range of 1.0–3.2 V vs. Mg/Mg2+, as shown in Fig. 1. In all cyclic voltammograms, the anodic current due to the oxidative decomposition of the electrolyte was observed at potentials more positive than 2.9 V vs. Mg/Mg2+. The current decreases with increasing Fe content in Mg(Mn1-xFex)2O4. Thus, Fe cations are catalytically less active than Mn in the oxidative decomposition of the electrolyte. Using the low catalytic activity of the Fe ions for the oxidative electrolyte decomposition, we demonstrated that the cyclability of MRBs could be significantly improved by suppressing the anodic electrolyte decomposition. In the presentation, we will demonstrate that Fe in Mg(Co1-xFex)2O4exhibits a similar effect on the suppression of the oxidative electrolyte decomposition. In conclusion, although suitable electrolytes for MRBs with a sufficiently wide electrochemical potential window remain unavailable, we expect our results to constitute a new approach to improve battery performance independent of electrolyte stability.     The diffraction anomalous fine structure (DAFS) method that is a spectroscopic analysis combined with resonant X-ray diffraction enables the determination of the valence state and local structure of a selected element at a specific crystalline site and/or phase. This method has been improved by using a polycrystalline sample, channel-cut monochromator optics with an undulator synchrotron radiation source, an area detector and direct determination of resonant terms with a logarithmic dispersion relation. This study makes the DAFS method more convenient and saves a large amount of measurement time in comparison with the conventional DAFS method with a single crystal. The improved DAFS method has been applied to some model samples, Ni foil and Fe3O4 powder, to demonstrate the validity of the measurement and the analysis of the present DAFS method.

    Metal nanowire nonwoven cloth (MNNC) is a metal sheet that has resulted from intertwined metal nanowires 100 nm in diameter with several dozen micrometers of length. Thus, it is a new metallic material having both a flexibility of the metal sheet and a large specific surface area of the nanowires. As an application that utilizes these properties, we propose a high-cyclability electrode for Li storage batteries, in which an active material is deposited or coated on MNNC. The proposed electrode can work without any binders, conductive additives, and current collectors, which might largely improve a practical gravimetric energy density. Huge electrode surfaces provide efficient ion/electron transports, and sufficient interspaces between the respective nanowires accommodate large volume expansions of the active material. To demonstrate these advantages, we have fabricated a NiO-covered nickel nanowire nonwoven cloth (NNNC) by electroless deposition under a magnetic field and annealing in air. The adequately annealed NNNC was shown to be an excellent conversion-type electrode that exhibits a quite high cyclability, 500 mAh/g at 1 C after 300 cycles, compared to that of a composite electrode consisting of NiO nanoparticles. Thus, the present design concept will contribute to a game-changing technology in future lithium ion battery (LIB) electrodes.

    Investigations of atomic and electronic structures in amorphous solid and liquid states of metallic glasses are important to understand the reason for the stability of metallic glasses. For this purpose, a research division A02 was organized in the program of Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research on Priority Areas "Materials Science of Bulk Metallic Glasses". This research division consists of four sub-groups to investigate (1) as-formed and annealed structures, (2) liquid and super-cooled liquid atomic structures, (3) liquid-solid phase transformation and (4) electronic structures and physical properties of metallic glasses. Researches of our division achieved in these three years are summarized in the following.

    We studied the elastic property of a lotus-type porous copper using the combination of resonance ultrasound spectroscopy and electromagnetic acoustic resonance methods to determine all the independent elastic constants. We observed the elastic anisotropy. The parallel Young's modulus E_<&parsl;> decreases linearly with porosity, while the normal E_<&bottom;> drops rapidly and then slowly. Micromechanics calculations considering the elastic anisotropy of the matrix (textured metal) can reproduce the measured anisotropic elastic constants. This indicates that the elastic properties of the various types of porous metals can be predicted and designed with the present approach using micromechanics modeling.

    Fundamental concepts of Bragg coherent diffraction imaging (BCDI) are briefly reviewed. BCDI is increasingly popular for imaging crystalline nanoparticles under in-situ conditions. In contrast to the conventional coherent diffraction imaging (CDI) that measures a forward coherent scattering in a small angle region, BCDI is based on coherent Bragg diffraction from a crystalline sample for imaging, enabling us to observe the 3D minute displacement field of the lattice planes as well as the electron density of the particle, which provides new insight into the relationship between physical properties and lattice strain/defects.

    Experimental methods of Bragg coherent diffraction imaging (BCDI) are briefly reviewed. BCDI has become an essential visualization technique that images the 3D displacement and strain field in the crystalline materials in situ. Nevertheless, the BCDI experiment is still not as common as the other conventional X-ray diffraction techniques presumably because of particular instrumentation utilizing delicate coherent X-ray optics and goniometer, which further requires a combination with the data reduction that reconstructs measured particle images during the experiment. Here, we briefly review the experimental methods of BCDI and its application to the alloy nanoparticles. We also discuss the advantages and challenges of BCDI as an analysis method and future perspectives.

    The physical significance of the glass transition observed by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) in the metallic glasses is explained in a study of measurements of the heating-rate(β) dependence of the glass transition temperature Tg and the crystallization temperature Tx in the Zr70Cu3O and Zr70Ni30 amorphous alloys and their structures in as-quenched and crystallized states. Zr70Cu30 exhibits the glass transition before crystallization in the normal DSC measurement and Zr70Ni30 immediately crystallizes. The heating rate β_c at the intersection of the two linear curves of Tg and Tx against logβ provides us a significant measure to determine the GFA and thermal stability of the metallic glasses. By heating at β larger than β_c, the crystallization is suppressed and the glass transition is observed even in Zr_&lt;70&gt;Ni_&lt;30&gt;. The thermal stability of the Zr_2Cu amorphous alloy is caused by retardation of crystallization due to the amorphous structure different from the Zr_2Cu crystalline phase. By contrast, the thermal instability of Zr_&lt;70&gt;Ni_&lt;30&gt; is attributed to the structural similarity to Zr_2Ni. Consequently, suppressing the crystallization is a key to gain the thermal stability of the present amorphous alloys. In the present paper, I will also introduce an example to evaluate a thermally stable cluster size near glass transition in Pd-based bulk metallic glasses.

    This paper presents an advanced technique to determine all independent elastic constants C_<ij> of thin films. Many polycrystalline films exhibit elastic anisotropy between the film-growth direction and in-plane direction, and macroscopically possess five independent elastic constants; they are denoted by C_<11>, C_<33>, C_<13>, C_<44>, and C_<66> when the x_3 axis is chosen along the film-growth direction. All of C_<ij> of thin film affect the mechanical resonance frequencies of a film/substrate specimen. Measuring them permits us to determine the film C_<ij> with known density, dimensions, and the elastic constants of the substrate. It is necessary to measure the resonance frequencies with a high accuracy, because the contributions of the film C_<ij> to the resonance frequencies are normally small. We made this possible using the piezoelectric tripod, which consists of two piezoelectric pinducers and a supporting pin. The specimen is held on the tripod and only the specimen weight makes the acoustic coupling. This weak but stable coupling measures the resonance frequencies with a high accuracy. We applied our technique to copper thin films and found anisotropy between C_<11> and C_<33>.

    本研究開発課題では資源制約フリーを実現する電池として,Mg金属負極を用いた蓄電池「マグネシウム蓄電池」の開発に取り組む.本研究の目標は,安全・安価で,高エネルギー密度を有するマグネシウム蓄電池の開発である.この蓄電池は,リチウムイオン電池(LIB)を代替するのではなく,これから必要となる電化プロセスに向けて,安全で大型な蓄電池として移動体に載せるだけでなく,分散型電源用定置用電源としての利用が期待される.つまり,現状LIBに頼り切りの蓄電池構成において,多種蓄電池のラインナップを揃えることが求められるが,本蓄電池はその一翼を担うものである. 本研究で達成する目標を以下に示す. ・マグネシウム蓄電池プロトタイプの作製を第一目標とする. ・室温~100°C以下の温度範囲で充放電可能な蓄電池を目指す. ・電極エネルギー密度で300-500 Wh/kgを目指し,ラミネートセルベースで200 Wh/kg以上の蓄電池の達成を目指す.

    本研究は,リチウムイオン電池などに用いられる酸化物電極材料に対して,多数の元素を固溶した際に現れるハイエントロピー効果が,微細組織形成・電極性能に与える影響とその機構を調査することを目的とする.また本研究を通じて,多元素混合時の微細組織形成挙動,微細組織により誘起される弾性歪,弾性歪の存在下における多元素の電荷補償反応と電子状態などを実験的・計算的に明らかにしつつ,それらを記述する学理構築を目指す. 初年度に当たる2021年度は,上記の検証に適した系と考えられる材料として,岩塩型構造を有する酸化物系統とスピネル構造を有する酸化物系統の組成設計並びに,合成と基礎的な電気化学試験による,候補材料のスクリーニングを実施した.スクリーニングの結果,配置エントロピー向上効果により,これまでにない元素の組み合わせで,狙いの構造の合成が可能であることが明らかになった一方,ハイエントロピー材料の先駆けとも言える金属材料系とは異なり,酸化物系では構成する陽イオン(カチオン)の電気陰性度の違いに応じて,合成時にカチオン間の電荷の再分配が自発的に起こることが明らかになった.つまり,構成元素を狙った価数状態で単相の酸化物中に留めるためには,慎重な組成の設計はもちろん,合成時の雰囲気や温度の精密制御が必要であり,これらの制御が不十分な場合には,高価数を有する異相不純物酸化物の生成や,いわばゼロ価とも言える構成元素の金属の析出なども見られた.しかし,組成と合成条件の最適化により,検証したいくつかのハイエントロピー酸化物の中には,これまでの既存の材料では見られなかった機構により,イオンが脱挿入する系が見出されるだけでなく,蓄電池電極特性としても有望と考えられる材料系が見出された.

    Phase change materials, which are utilized by controlling crystalline and amorphous phases with different optical properties, is now widely adopted in information recording technology. Currently, the application of materials that exhibit a crystal-crystal phase transition, rather than the conventional crystal-amorphous phase transition, as phase-change materials is attracting attention in order to achieve higher speed and energy saving phase change. In this study, we focus on VTe2, which has lattice distortion resulting from charge-density-wave in the low-temperature phase, and observe its femtosecond-laser induced phase transition behavior. Time-resolved pump-probe spectroscopy revealed that the ultrafast phase transition occurs within 1 ps after excitation above the threshold fluence, and that the phase transition proceeds by a nucleation and growth process.

    リチウムイオン電池などの一価キャリアイオンを使う蓄電池の物理化学機構はよく理解されているが,マグネシウムなどの多価イオンをキャリア(電荷担体)とする蓄電池系の基礎科学は殆ど未解明である.そこで本申請研究では,多価イオンをキャリアとして利用する蓄電池のための材料科学を確立し,一価および多価イオンが奏でるデュアルキャリアの協奏的相互作用の学理を構築することを目指した.これは,蓄電池分野のみならず,燃料電池固体電解質やイオン伝導体などの分野へも拡張される発展的なテーマとなり,本申請研究で明らかにしたい学術的な具体的問題を以下の通り掲げて遂行する予定であった 【課題1】 多価イオンを蓄電デバイスにおいてキャリアとするための機構・指針を得る. 【課題2】 デュアルキャリアが奏でる協奏的効果を明らかにする. 【課題3】 デンドライト組織の抑制機構とそこから逆に推定される形成機構を解明する. 以上の問題を解決することができれば,高エネルギー密度を有する新しい蓄電池を実現できる可能性は高いと考え,それに必要な装置や物品の購入を選定判別し,研究分担者,連携者と共に環境整備の準備段階にあった. しかし,基盤Sが採択になったため,この基盤Aをやむなく辞退することになった.それまでに購入した物品などは,基盤Sでも利用する事は可能であり,実際に基盤Aで利用するために,幾分かの利用は行った.その結果は,基盤Sにつながるものと期待している.

    The nano-domain dispersed material (NDD) is to provide nanopillars of a similar structure oxide to prevent the instability of the layered rock-salt structure oxide during delithiation. It was conceived that it would be possible to design positive electrode materials effective for increasing the capacity of lithium ion batteries. In this study, first we developed X-ray diffraction spectroscopy combining X-ray anomalous scattering and X-ray diffraction, which can determine the structure around a specific element in a selected phase and/or atomic sites in a unit cell, and investigated the local structures around transition metal elements in NDD. By systematically elucidating the oxidation state and local structure around the transition elements in NDD during the battery reaction, we understood the relationship between the structure of the transition metal element in NDD and the battery characteristics and proposed a NDD material design for realizing the high capacity positive electrode.

However, it is a crucial problem that lithium is electrodeposited in the form of dendrite during charging, resulting in short-circuiting and loss of lithium. Therefore, in this research, we proposed a rocking-chair-type dual-salt battery which makes both magnesium ion and lithium ion charge carriers. In this rocking-chair-type dual-salt storage battery, it is expected that drastic improvement in energy density can be achieved by using the Mg-Li alloy negative electrode that is capable of suppressing dendrite electrodeposition.

    A dealloying in metallic melt, a novel top-down process for preparing nanoporous Si powder was developed. By immersing magnesium-silicon alloy precursor in bismuth metal melt, magnesium selectively dissolved into bismuth melt and the remaining silicon atoms self-organized into an open-cell type nanoporous structure. A lithium secondary battery anode made with the developed nanoporous Si exhibited about 3 times higher capacity than that of graphite anode and extremely long lifetime exceeding 1500 cycles.

    In general, there are few cathode materials that can accommodate polyvalent cations, which leads to the lowering of the versatility of the polyvalent-metal storage battery. In this study, we have proposed a new concept of storage battery, i.e., dual-salt battery, which employs polyvalent metal (such as magnesium) as an anode material. The present deal-salt battery combines the cathode materials for Li ion batteries (or sodium ion batteries) with the polyvalent metal anode materials. We have fabricated a Daniell-type test cell using the cathode material (LiFePO4) for LIBs and Mg metal anode, and confirmed that such a battery can be discharged and charged stably. In order to enhance the energy density, we have tested whether the Chevrel compounds can accommodate both Mg and Li cations. Thus, the dual-salt storage batteries have been examined by various combination of cathode and anode materials.

    Strong relationship among fragility (= temperature dependence of viscosity in supercooled liquid state, magnitude of the slow beta relaxation and nanoscale inhomogeneity in metallic glasses is confirmed by investigating relaxation behavior of Pd- and Zr-based alloys. By HAADF-STEM observation, it is newly found that Ar atom can be frozen in weakly bonded region of metallic glass by low energy Ar ion implantation. By analyzing dependence of size and distribution of the frozen Ar nanoparticles on the alloy system and thermal history, we can understand the nanoscale inhomogeneity in metallic glass more clearly.

    Magnesium-ion batteries(MIBs) with a Mg-metal negative electrode are expected to combine high energy density and high electromotive force, owing to the divalent ion careers and its low redox potential. However, it has been reported to date that the cell voltage of MIBs is not high enough(~ 1. 5 V), being far below that of lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)(4? 5 V). In this work, we have investigated the potentiality of Mg? Co? O and Mg? Ni? O complex oxides as the positive electrode for MIBs, which are composed of these positive electrodes and a Mg negative electrode in acetonitrile with Mg(ClO4) 2 salt as an electrolyte. These MIBs can exhibit a relatively high open circuit voltage, OCV. However, as the combination of the acetonitrile electrolyte and metal Mg can yield the passivation on the surface of the Mg electrode, we have also checked these materials for a well-established Li ion battery system, and confirmed that the charged battery can show high OCV. In order to attain such a high cell voltage, it would be significant to exploit the unstabilized ionafter charge in the host complex oxide.

    It has been demonstrated that the easy axis of magnetization (c-axis) can be controlled to be normal to the thin film for the combination of FePt and B2O3 or CoPt and B2O3, which is due to the effects of the two-dimensional plane stress. For the FePd alloy, we have utilized the phase separation to Fe and FePd in the Fe-rich compositional region, in order to try to prototype a new magnetic film showing exchange and magnetostatic couplings between soft Fe and hard FePd magnets. Similarly to the B2O3 glass, we could fabricate the perpendicular spring magnet of FePd owing to the two-dimensional stress generated in the Fe matrix.

    本研究においては強磁性体であるFeの柱状組織薄膜を作製し,形状磁気異方性を利用した垂直磁化膜を作製することを目的とした.その際に,隣接するFeの柱状組織を分離する非磁性相としてCrを用いた.そしてFeとCrの同時スパッタリングにより柱状組織を持つ薄膜を作製し,その後熱処理を行うことでFeとCrの相分離を試みた. 申請者のこれまでの研究から,Snを数ナノメートルあらかじめ堆積させ熱処理を施すと,Snのナノドットが形成されることが分かっている.そこで,まず,Snナノ粒子の下地層を作製し,熱処理前のFeCr層への効果について調べた結果,Snの堆積量を変化させることでSnナノ粒子のサイズをコントロールすることに成功した.また,Sn下地層を用い,その上に堆積させたFeCr層の面内方向の径はSnナノ粒子の径とほぼ一致した.また,FeとCrを相分離させるために350℃〜500℃で1hの等温保持を行った.その結果,450℃以上でFeとCrの相分離は完全になされた.また,Sn下地層を用いなかった試料は350℃の熱処理で柱状組織が崩壊した一方で,Sn下地層を用いた試料については熱処理によって相分離した後も,隣接する粒との結合等が見られるものの柱状形状を保っていた.熱処理による相分離後においての柱状形状の完全な維持を目指し,10Tの強磁場中での熱処理を行った.しかしその結果としては,熱処理後の表面および断面形状に無磁場における熱処理後の試料との目立った相違は見られなかった.なお,柱状組織を有するナノロッド磁性膜は作製法のいかんを問わず,垂直磁気異方性を示すことが明らかとなった.

    本年度は、当特定領域研究の最終年度に相当するため、本グループの目標とする(1)「過冷却液体・金属ガラスの局所構造・中範囲構造と相安定性の関連の解明」の研究、さらにこれを基にした(2)「新規バルク金属ガラス創製に必要となるガラス相安定化機構を確立」についての研究のまとめを実行した。 (1)については、FeCoSiNbB,FeCrMoCBTm, PdNiP、ZrNiCuAI等のガラス安定性の高い合金系における結晶化挙動を透過型電子顕微鏡で調べ、いずれの系においてもガラス相から直接単位胞の大きい複雑構造の析出が見出されたが、急冷状態で存在する2nm程度に拡がっだ中範囲規則領域の構造は析出相に比べ極めて不完全な構造であり、直接結晶核とはなりえず、結晶核形成において複雑な構造変化を必要とすることが明らかとなった。この過程が結晶化を遅らせ、ガラスの高い安定性に寄与するものと結論した。 (2)については、昨年度に構築したPdNiCuP金属ガラスの微視的構造モデルを多角的に検証した.まず,X線非弾性散乱実験によるフォノンエネルギーからnm波長の音速を求め,超音波によるmm波長の音速と比較したところ,前者の方が音速が大きいことが明らかとなった.また,同金属ガラスを殆どのダイナミクスが凍結される極低温領域まで弾性共鳴周波数を測定し,その内部摩擦と振動数の温度依存性を計測することにより,速い緩和挙動が存在しないことも明らかにした.すなわち,nm波長の速い音速は時間依存ではないことを意味しており,空間不均一性によるものと結論した.また,同様の実験をストロング液体であるZr系のバルク金属ガラスにも適用した結果,速い音速は観測されないことを見出した.これは,Zr系ガラスの方がより均質性が高いことを意味しており,このことから,フラジリティの程度により構造不均質性の程度が異なることが明らかとなった。

    FePt,FePdを用いた高密度磁気記録媒体の作製および実用化のためには,約10nm程度の規則相粒子を平面上に規則的に配列させる技術および基板に依存しない容易磁化軸(L1_0規則相のc軸)の制御法,の確立が必須である.そして,究極の磁気デバイスとしてナノ粒子の3次元規則配列化による多ビット情報の記録を考える必要がある.本研究では最終的には3次元配列に関する知見を得ることを目的とした基礎研究を行った. 昨年度には2次元的な磁性ナノ粒子を強磁場中で規則的に配列した膜を作製することに成功した.本年度は結晶c軸を配向させるための,プロセスを新たに考案した.具体的には,FePtなどの磁性合金をスパッタする前段階にバッファー層として,低融点材料のSnあるいはホウ酸ガラスを堆積させた.また,単層膜および多層膜を作製して,550℃までの温度で10テスラ中で熱処理を施したところ,単層膜においては三角格子がきれいに配列することが明らかとなった.これは,低融点材料が,下地として流動的になることにより,粒子化とその規則的配列化をより効率的にすることができたものと考えられる.特に下地がSnの場合,室温付近でナノ粒子が形成されたが,熱処理温度を上げていくほど,Snとの合金化が避けられなかった.一方,ホウ酸ガラスの場合,550℃程度まで温度を上げる必要があったが,多層膜を用いてX線回折実験を行ったところ,200結晶軸が面直方向に配向することが明らかとなった.また,そのc軸方向もすべて面直に向いていることから,望みどおりのc軸配向構造が形成されたものと考えている.この結果を利用して,3次元のナノドットのc軸配向形成に向けて,現在取り組んでいるところである.

    本研究では超音波キャビテーションによる水中有害有機物質の分解のための装置開発およびキャビテーションによる分解能力の性質を解明することを主目的とした.平成15年度においては,溶液中の残存気体がキャビテーション分解法の分解効率に及ぼす影響を系統的に調べた.前年度の結果から,分解効率が水中に含まれる気体の種類と濃度によって顕著に異なることが示唆された.そこで,プェノールとメチレンブルーに対して,(i)脱気を行わない溶液中,(ii)透過膜モジュールを用いて完全に脱気を行った溶液中、(iii)脱気後,アルゴンを飽和させた溶液中,(iv)脱気後,ヘリウムを飽和させた溶液中,の4種類の溶液中で分解実験を行い,その効率を比較した.それぞれ10ppmの濃度からスタートし,超音波照射とともにこれらの濃度の変化を分光器によって測定した.フェノールに関しては,(i)がもっとも高い効率を示し,(ii)がもっとも低い効率を示した.メチレンブルーに関しては,(iii)がもっとも高い効率を示し,(ii)がもっとも低い効率を示した.フェノールに比べてメチレンブルーは揮発性が高く,主にキャビテーション内部に気化した状態で分解が進むと思われる.そのため,キャビテーション気泡内に熱伝導率の低いアルゴンが含まれる場合、断熱圧縮効果が高まり,気泡内の温度上昇が顕著となり,分解効率が増加したと推測された.また,キャビテーション気泡の数は残存気体核の数に依存するために,脱気された溶液ではキャビテーション数が優位に少なく,分解効率が減少したと考えられる.このように,系統的にキャビテーションによる分解特性を調べたことにより,その性質が明らかとなった.

    We have determined all five independent elastic-stiffness coefficients C_ij of a silicon-carbide fiber with transverse isotropy from room temperature up to 873 K. First, we measured the C_ij of a Ti-alloy-matrix composite reinforced unidirectionally with the fibers and the matrix alloy alone. Electromagnetic acoustic resonance detected the free-vibration resonance frequencies of the specimens to determine their C_ij. Second, we applied a micromechanics calculation to deduce the fiber C_ij from the measured composite and matrix C_ij. The resulting fiber C_ij, show strong anisotropy in the temperature derivatives of the C_ij, the temperature derivatives for the fiber-axis-direction are much smaller than the others. Also, we developed a methodology to deduce exact elastic constants of an anisotropic solid material without using any advance information on the elastic constants by. incorporating a displacement-distribution. measurement into resonant ultrasound spectroscopy (RUS). The usual RUS method measures free vibration resonance frequencies of a solid and compares them with calculations to find the most suitable set of elastic constants by an inverse calculation. This comparison requires mode identification for the measured resonance frequencies, which has been difficult and never been free from ambiguity. This study then adopts a laser-Doppler interferometer to measure the displacement-distribution patterns on a surface of the vibrating specimen mounted on pinducers ; comparison of the measured displacement distributions with those computed permits us to correctly identify the measured resonance frequencies, leading to unmistakable determination of elastic constants. Because the displacement patterns are hardly affected by the elastic constants, an exact answer is surely obtained even when unreasonable elastic constants are used as initial guesses at the beginning of the inverse calculation. The usefulness of the present technique is demonstrated with an aluminum alloy and a langasite crystal.

    本研究は,ニッケル基超合金の応力下でのクリープ破壊の非破壊検査手法の確立を目的として,その評価法の検討と,クリープ強化に関連するラフト化機構の解明を行ったものである.本合金は,高温・低応力の環境でクリープさせると,その内部組織が立方状組織からラフト組織(応力軸方向に垂直な板状組織)に変化し,あるとき突然そのラフト組織は崩壊して,急速にクリープ変形が進行する.ここで解決すべき問題が二つある.一つは非破壊余寿命の直接的な評価であり,もう一つはラフト形成および崩壊のメカニズムを解明することである. 弾性的な観点からは,立方状組織は巨視的にみても立方対称性をもつが,ラフト組織の場合は正方対称性を有し,ラフト組織が崩壊したときは,弱い正方対称性を示すと考えられる.そこで,この弾性的性質の変化(弾性異方性)を超音波共鳴法を用いて測定した.その結果,ラフト組織の場合は,正方晶の弾性異方性が出現することが明らかとなった.しかし,その弾性異方性は室温では小さく,ヤング率の場合E_<100>/E_<001>=1.003程度であったが,高温ではその異方性は逆転して大きくなり約E_<001>/E_<100>=1.02程度になることが明らかとなった.この結果は,マイクロメカニクスモデルによっても定性的に示すことができた.ラフト組織の崩壊直前および直後の弾性異方性については,試料は現在作製段階にあり,今後その変化に興味が持たれる.一方,ラフト化機構の弾塑性論的考察も行ったところ,ラフト化は弾性論のみの観点からは説明できないことを示すことができた.つまり,クリープ初期において導入される界面転位が,格子ミスフィットを異方的に緩和し,それによって方向性のある粗大化,つまりラフティング,が起こることが明らかとなった.このことより,ラフト形成には,γおよびγ'の格子定数の差が非常に重要な因子であることが明らかとなった.現在このメカニズムを基にラフト崩壊の機構を検討している.

    本研究では,安全・安心・安価で,高エネルギー密度を有する新しい蓄電池デバイスとして,現状では発展途上の研究開発領域である二価イオンをキャリアとする二次電池「マグネシウム電池」の基礎研究および開発を行う.本研究では,放電時の主反応として (正極) MgM_2O_4 + Mg^{2+} + 2e --> Mg_2M_2O_4 (M = Co, Ni, Fe,Mnなど) (負極) xMg → xMg2+ + 2xe なる全く新たな電極反応(スピネル-ロックソルト転移)を利用した革新的蓄電池「マグネシウム電池」のための正極材料開発を初めに行い高エネルギー密度化を図り,安全で大型な蓄電池の開発を目指す.
