First, we considered not only the trends of liberal arts education in individual countries, but also the influence of the new issue of STEM education from a global perspective. Secondly, the research group consists not only of higher education researchers but also experts in mathematics, history, physical education and career education, and examined the present situation and problems of liberal arts education from the viewpoint of academic disciplines.Thirdly, We examined new trends of liberal arts education in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, China, Australia and Japan after deregulation of higher education. Lastly, we considered measuring of learning outcome of liberal arts education is considered as the overall bachelor's education education. Based on the above results, we published "Inquiry of high quality liberal arts education in global society" from Tohoku University Publications.

We tried reconstruct of distribution map of Silk road cities using handy GPS as macro-scale approach, and on the other hand we tried excavation of Dabusia tepa in Samarkand shire Uzbekistan and recorded results of excavation using 3D scanner. We tried synthetic analysis of all data on GIS (Geographic Information Systems) as final approach. We could clarify that the Samarkand area (Middle basin of Zervshan) had been crossroad of Silk road exchanges. The crossroad was not only intersection but also formed crossroad zone. The crossroad was supported two major cities Samarkand Afrasiab tepa and Dabusia tepa. We concluded that this structure of the crossroad zone had been maintained for 2700 years. <BR>

In the transmission of iconography of Greek mythology towards the East, in cases such as Tyche, Dionysus and others, Buddhism played an important role just like a strong “magnetic force”. As a result, one can say that Mediterranean Civilization is not to be found only in the Mediterranean region but also in the Buddhist context in Central Asia. But it was not just a unilateral flow of ideas from West to East. Understanding well the functions and attributes of Greek Gods and Goddesses, the East exclusively and selectively absorbed elements of Western Civilization to adapt them into Eastern Cosmology and therefore forming an even richer Eastern Civilization. It has been mentioned often that Greek or Western iconography had the power to diffuse into the East. The author would add to this that the Eastern Civilization had the power and ability to draw aspects of the Western Civilization into their own.

We carried out several missions to Pakistan, India and western countries as well as in Japan to collect the data of the impressive number of Gandharan Art, especially the sculptures now scattered among museums and private collections throughout the world. Totally 1,849 pieces in number having been investigated, we recorded the basic descriptive information with photographs to prepare the compilation of the database of those materials. Based on such numerous materials, we have examined some unique aspects of the Gandharan Buddhist art, which vigorously developed with the cultural influences from India, Hellenism and Iran, to bring us ever closer to the actual situations of the Gandharan Buddhism and its faith. The results of our research project are published in the following reports: the interim report (May, 2011), the Final report (2vols) and the proceedings of the international symposium (March, 2013).

Ancient Greco-Kushan city in Bactria, "Kampyr-tepa", on the right bank of Amu-river was excavated revealing the history of the city. This shed new light on the military campaign of Alexander the Great in Central Asia, which was followed by the propagation of Greek civilization into the Ancient Orient. By studying the way the Hellenistic art form spread globally and its local interpretations, it became clear that the region was a hub between the western, southern and eastern regions of the Eurasian Continent.

The data bank of the capitals in the Corinthian order, which covers the area from the Mediterranean World to the Central Asia, has been made. By doing so, several issues concerning the Order have emerged, which have been studied subsequently. Through inspections of the form of the Corinthian capitals, the investigations into the international relations in the Mediterranean World have been made. The studies on the origin of the Order have revealed that it has a strong funeral and therefore sacred connotation. Through categorization of the Corinthian capitals and contradistinction of them with the Doric and Ionic Orders, the differential character of the Corinthian Order has been made clear. The Corinthian capitals of the temple of Zeus at Athens, which demonstrate the final stage of the development of the Corinthian Order in the Greek World have been taken as an object of study and comparative studies are being made of the representative capitals of the Greek World, i.e. those of Asia Minor and of the Tholos at Epidauros. After having been made clear that the capitals of the Zeus temple are the key of diffusion of the Order from the Greek World into the Roman World, they are compared with "the canonical capital" described in the De architecture libri decem of the Roman Vitruvius, through which the nature of the Order and an aspect of the relations between Greek and Roman Worlds are made clear. Studies on Cossutius, the Roman architect of the Zeus temple, have been made. Through studies of the Corinthian capitals of the temple of Zeus at Olba in Cilicia, the struggling relations between the Seleucid and the Ptolemaic dynasties over this strategically important region are made clear. The Bouleuterion at Miletos with Corinthian capitals has been given position in the Greek-Roman-Syrian international relations.

The aim of this project is to study and research the roman Art and Archaeology in the central Italy, specially to excavate a roman villa at Cazzanello near Tarquinia. This region, famous as the center of the Etruscan culture, was studied well by etruscan archaeologists and cleared the cultural situations from the 8th cent. B.C. to the 2nd cent. B.C. But, constructing with the Etruscan period, the cultural situations of this region at the roman imperial period are not studied well. Perhaps because it is concentrated to interest to the Etruscan culture. Our project is to establish the cultural development at the roman period, specially studying about architectural development of the imperial period in this region, analyzing about amphorae, and researching about the territory of the villa. In 1992, we have found a big hall in a trilobate form, which was begun to construct at the end of the 4th cent. A.D. But the hall was not completed, and abandoned at the beginning of the 5th cent. A.D. by unknown reason (perhaps by the sack of Longobardi who destroyed Gravisica near our villa at 408 A.D.). Because of this unfinished state of the hall, we can understand how to reuse the old building for new one, and also we can see the old floor mosaics which offer us important information about the dating of old building. These mosaics are dated to the end of the republic period or augustan era, because it is possible to compare with the black and white mosaics found at pompeii.

シルクロードの代表的隊商都市パルミラを発掘調査し, 出土遺物の美術考古学的研究を行い, 周辺・東方の文化との関連を究明する. 今回の調査はトルコとシリアで行った. トルコ南部のニムルド・ダーなどの遺跡では前1世紀の人物, 神像彫刻の写真撮影を行い, 所定の資料を得ることができた. また, 実測によって神の配置や構造に関する基礎的データも得られた. これにより「コンマゲーネ王国の彫刻」資料集を出版することが可能となり, シリアのパルミラの彫刻との比較資料を得ることができた. シリアではパルミラの古墓の発掘調査を目的としており, 今回は, その調査に適切な場所と地理的条件を確認した. パルミラ効外の死者の谷南方の広大な地域(1000X500メートル)に未発掘の地下墓が存在する可能性が予想され, この場所で「地下レーダーシステム」によって探査を行うことが最も適当と判断された. 第一回の本調査は地形測量から始めたいと考えている.
