    本研究プロジェクトは本研究は、トランスナショナル・ジェンダー・スピリチュアリティという三つの軸を視座として近代日本の日蓮主義(国家主義的な近代仏教思想)を再検討するものである。 従来の研究では、日蓮主義が日本におけるナショナリズムや国体論との関連のなかで取り上げられることが多く、その国家主義的思考が問題視されてきた。本研究ではこうしたいわば 「閉鎖的」なイメージと異なる、国や民族、ジェンダー、伝統など、様々なボーダーを超える、すなわち越境する近代仏教思想としての、新しい日蓮主義像を描き出すのが狙いである。 研究プロジェクトの一年度には、「トランスナショナル」と「ジェンダー」の二つの柱を中心にして研究を行った。チームメンバーが国際学会に参加、バンコクで開催したAAS-in-Asia2019のカンファレンスにて、「Rising Lotus: Rethinking Nichirenism in Twentieth Century Japan and East-Asia」というパネルで4人と一緒に日蓮主義のトランスナショナルな側面について発表し、議論を行った。台北市で開催した「 EACJS 4東アジア日本研究者協議会」で、「近代日本の日蓮主義における信仰とプラクティス」というパネルを行った。国内では、「日蓮主義勉強会」を２回行った。なお、山形県でのフィールドワークや、東京の国柱会での資料収集など、様々な基礎研究をし、重要な資料を集め始めた。メンバー達が、様々な論文や著作を出版し、その中に非常に注目を集めている、大谷栄一の『日蓮主義とはなんだったのか─近代日本の思想水脈』 などがある。
