    Scatter of small fatigue crack growth rate is larger than the scatter of large fatigue crack growth rate. In fact, the transition length of small and large fatigue cracks depends on material and stress. In order to measure the transition length in specific condition, a new method using a single specimen is proposed in this study. The specimens used in this study contain eight FIB notches. Introducing eight FIB notches means that each specimen can produce eight data of fatigue crack growth rates. By using these data, the scatter of fatigue crack growth rate was evaluated, enabling the determination of the transition length. In addition, evaluation with three specimens was also conducted for validation. Finally, data of three specimens were compared to the data obtained by a specimen to verify the validity.

    Metastable austenitic stainless steels are known to transform to BCC martensite. The transformation behavior depends on the phase stability. Although influences of the phase stability on the transformation behavior and its associated mechanical properties in austenitic stainless steels have been investigated by many researchers, there is still frontier in terms of carbon effects on work hardening stemming from martensitic transformation. In this study, we investigated the effect of carbon on work hardening in three types of Fe-Cr-Ni austenitic stainless steel: Fe18Cr8Ni, Fe18Cr8Ni0.05C and Fe18Cr8Ni0.15C steels. According to the present experiments, we concluded as follows: (1) Addition of 0.15% carbon changed the transformation regime from stress-assisted to strain-induced transformation. (2) High carbon concentration causes dynamic strain aging which is related to strain-induced martensitic transformation. (3) The coexistence of martensitic transformation and dynamic strain aging provided exceptional work hardening and elongation.

    In order to achieve shear mode crack propagation that appears on the surface of rolling/sliding contact machine elements along with the plastic flow, a test method was developed. Rolling contact fatigue is the damage of rolling/sliding contact machine elements, and the crack exists along with the plastic flow. For the applied stress around the crack, shear stress is considered to be dominant caused by the rolling/sliding contact. And the authors considered that the plastic flow acts as a guide to Mode II crack propagation and prevents the branching. The depth of the plastic flow layer on the rolling/sliding contact machine element surface is a few hundred of microns. Therefore, in this study, in order to achieve Mode II fatigue crack growth test of such thin area, a test method was developed. After the cyclic loading, the Mode II crack propagation without compression load was succeeded. The authors concluded that crack growth direction was guided by plastic flow.

    The high cycle fatigue properties of Fe-30Mn-3Si-3Al and Fe-22Mn-0.5C twinning-induced plasticity (TWIP) steels were evaluated by rotary bending fatigue testing and a replica technique. More specifically, small fatigue crack propagation and non-propagating fatigue crack phenomenon were comparatively studied in terms of occurrence of dynamic strain aging. In fact, dynamic strain aging occurs in the Fe-22Mn-0.5C TWIP steel because of the presence of Interstitial-substitutional (I-S) atom interactions. Probably due to the occurrence of dynamic strain aging, only the Fe-22Mn-0.5C TWIP steel showed non-propagating fatigue crack phenomenon at the fatigue limit. In contrast, a small fatigue crack of the Fe-30Mn-3Si-3Al TWIP steel continuously propagated even at the fatigue limit which was defined that the specimen does not fracture until 10^7 cycles.

    In order to investigate the relationship between hydrogen and FCC/HCP phase stability in steel, slow strain rate tensile (SSRT) tests were conducted in Fe-30Mn-6Si and Fe-30Mn-3Si-3Al austenitic steels (the phase stability of the former steel is lower than the latter). SSRT tests were conducted in the following three cases: Case A) test in air, Case B) test in 0.7 MPa hydrogen gas and Case C) test in air using specimen charged with hydrogen at 270 ℃ and 10 MPa. In both Case B and C, Fe-30Mn-3Si-3Al steel did not show significant degradation of tensile properties by hydrogen compared with Case A. The Fe-30Mn-6Si did not show significant degradation of tensile properties by hydrogen in Case B but the unstable alloy showed a degradation of tensile properties by hydrogen in Case C.

    In order to investigate the effect of hydrogen on fatigue crack growth property in newly developed Fe-15Mn-based austenite alloy, fatigue crack growth tests were conducted with non-charged specimens in air, non-charged specimens in 0.7 MPa hydrogen gas, and hydrogen charged specimens in air. As a result, the new alloy used in this study was clarified to show that of the fatigue crack growth behavior is not accelerated by hydrogen charging.

    In order to clarify an influence of hydrogen on the fatigue crack propagation in ultra-low frequency region, we investigated the frequency dependence of the crack propagation rate of S10C in hydrogen and nitrogen atmosphere. In the hydrogen atmosphere, crack propagation rate decreased with decrease in frequency. In particular, the reduction in crack propagation rate was markedly low in the ultra-low frequency (0.001 Hz). However, crack propagation rate in the nitrogen atmosphere also decreased in the ultra-low frequency region. Hence, we concluded that the decrease in crack propagation rate was concluded to stem from carbon diffusion as well as hydrogen diffusion.

    TWIP鋼は次世代自動車用鋼としての応用が期待される一方、水素脆化か問題となっている。本講演ではTWIP鋼で最も重要な現象である変形双晶に焦点を当て、その水素脆化への寄与に言及する。主な結果は次の通りである。I) Electron Channeling contrast imaging 法を用いて変形双晶を観察し、変形双晶の分布/形態とき裂の成長過程の相関を調べた結果、双晶変形が水素脆化発生に有意に寄与していることが明らかとなった。具体的な変形双晶の役割の例として、変形双晶界面が水素に起因するき裂の発生箇所および伝播経路として働くことが挙げられる。 II)また、母晶および変形双晶における水素分配をScanning Kelvin Probe Force Microscopy 法により視覚化した結果、水素は変形双晶界面にも存在していることが明らかとなった。

    Fe-Mn-C基T、winning-Induced Plasticity(TWIP)鋼は自動車用の新しい高強度鋼板として注目されている。本鋼の実用上、最も大きな問題が水素脆化である。 しかし、Fe-Mn-C TWIP鋼を予め水素チャージして引張試験を行った場合、伸びに有意な変化が現れない。このため、明瞭な変化が観察可能な試験法の模索が必要である。本講演では、Fe-Mn-C TWIP鋼薄板の電解水素チャージ下での引張試験を行い、伸びと強度の変化を測定するとともにき裂の伝播経路を観察した結果を報告する。

    This paper concerns a newly developed Fe-Mn-Si-Al shape memory alloy (SMA) with a high ductility. We investigated the shape memory effect and the ductility of Fe-30Mn-(6-x)Si-xAl (x=0, 1, 2 and 3, mass-%) alloys. For x=0, the composition is consistent with that of the well known SMA of Fe-30Mn-6Si, while, for x=2 and 3 the alloys are nothing else but so-called TWIP steels, which are reported to show high ductility as much as 70% and 90%, respectively. It was found that the shape memory effect of the alloy containing 1 mass-% Al was not so different from that of Fe-30Mn-6Si SMA. The alloy also exhibits a high ductility like TWIP steels (more than 50%).

    燃料電池自動車と水素ステーションの普及拡大には、水素脆化しにくく低コストの新しい構造 材料の開発が必要である。本研究は、現在使用が認められている高合金高コストの SUS316L 鋼と 同等の材料強度特性を有しコストをその半分以下にできる新しい汎用の鉄鋼材料として、申請者 が萌芽研究において見出した Fe-高 Mn 系オーステナイト合金を「耐水素鋼」として確立するため の基礎研究を行う。オーステナイト(FCC)相の相安定性と塑性変形様式の関係に着目するととも に、破面粗さ誘起き裂閉口を最大限活用するという独自アイデアによって、水素侵入環境下でも 疲労特性を損なわない「耐水素鋼」を創出するための材料設計基盤を構築する。 以上の目的の達成に向けて、疲労データベース取得のための合金試料の試験片作成準備を行った。また二次き裂発生挙動の観察のための研磨装置などの整備を行った。さらに導入予定装置である後方散乱電子線回折装置の仕様検討などを行った。

    本研究の目的は、水素脆化機構解明の実験指針および耐水素材料の設計指針を確立することである。Scanning Kelvin Prove Force Microscope (SKPFM)で水素分布の測定、Electron Channeling Contrast Imaging (ECCI)でバルク体の金属組織観察をし、これら結果を総合して考察することで、金属組織および水素の分布を相関付けて水素脆化機構を理解することを第一段階の目標とした。 対象材の一つはTwinning-Induced Plasticity (TWIP)鋼と呼ばれる高強度オーステナイト鋼を選択した。ECCIにより、水素助長亀裂は粒界だけでなく、変形双晶界面にも生成、伝播することが明らかとなった。変形双晶界面において亀裂が発生した理由は、双晶界面上における応力集中が原因である。また、変形双晶において水素の偏在がSKPFMにより観察された。すなわち、変形双晶が存在する高強度鋼では、双晶界面上の応力集中および水素偏析が水素脆化発現に重要な役割を持っており、オーステナイト鋼ベースの耐水素材料を設計する場合には、変形双晶の抑制または、変形双晶上の水素偏析を避ける必要があることが、本研究によって明らかとなった。 上記、ECCIおよびSKPFM観察によって明らかにされた事実に基づき、近年、高降伏強度、商引張比強度、高均一伸びを顕微するκ炭化物強化型オーステナイト鋼の水素脆化特性および機構を調査した。本鋼では変形双晶が現れないのでTWIP鋼よりも優れた耐水素脆化抑制が期待されたが、本鋼の優れた機械的特性の原因である特定すべり面におけるひずみ集中に起因して、水素助長亀裂が観察された。この亀裂を起点に、水素が本鋼の機械的特性を著しく劣化させる。これら事実はECCI観察によって明らかにされた。つまり、耐水素高強度オーステナイト鋼を設計する場合には、変形双晶および特定すべり面上におけるひずみ集中に頼らない合金設計が求められる。 本研究により、ECCIおよびSKPFM観察が水素脆化機構解明に有効であることが明らかとされた。

  19. 高Mn形状記憶合金およびTWIP鋼における新合金設計指針確立のための基礎研究 競争的資金

    優れた機械的性質、特には均一伸びを得るためには、高い加工硬化能および、延性的な破壊を材料が有する必要がある。前年度は加工硬化に着目し、研究を遂行した。対して本年度は破壊挙動に焦点をあてた。延性的な破壊挙動が得られない場合、すなわち、脆化が引き起こされる条件について明らかとし、各条件における機構を解明した。 本研究対象の合金であるFe-Mn-Cオーステナイト鋼ではεマルテンサイトに関する脆化および水素脆化現象が重要となる。両脆化現象の機構を本年度は解明した。前者はεマルテンサイトと焼鈍双晶界面の交差部に発生する応力集中に起因して起こる。後者の水素脆化は、ひずみ時効および変形双晶の挙動に特に影響を受けることを明らかとした。 これら解明された脆化機構に基づき、脆化抑制のための合金設計指針を提案した。εマルテンサイトに関わる脆化は、εマルテンサイトおよび焼鈍双晶界面の密度を減らすことで抑制可能である。両密度を提言する方法の一例は温間加工による結晶粒微細化である。温間加工による結晶粒の微細化はεマルテンサイトおよび焼鈍双晶界面の密度を著しく低減し、その結果、脆化現象が抑制された。 水素脆化の抑制にはAlの添加が有効であることが知られているが、その理由は不明であった。本研究により、Alはひずみ時効および変形双晶を抑制し、その結果、水素脆化が抑制されることが明らかとなった。 本研究の目的は加工硬化および脆化現象の挙動および機構を明らかとし、Fe-Mn-Cオーステナイト鋼の設計指針を確立することである。前年度研究成果および上記結果により、本合金系の加工硬化および脆化現象の大部分が明らかとなり、得られた知見から、良好な機械的性質の鋼の開発にも成功した。
