This paper proposes a Software-Defined Network (SDN)-based Moving Target Defense (MTD) mechanism to pro- tect the network from potential scans. The proposed mechanism can work in combination with an IPS without affecting its normal behavior. To do so, an SDN controller changes the packets’ headers passing through switches using virtual IP addresses while the operation of IPS continues monitoring the devices’ actual IP addresses. Preliminary results in an emulated environment show that it is possible to achieve a seamless collaboration between the MTD and IDS to detect low and high-rate scans.

SDN is an emerging network paradigm whose main characteristic is the separation of the Control from the Data Plane, allowing the implementation of innovative, robust, and flexible ways to program networks. Moreover, SDN has recently extended its coverage to Hybrid wired and/or wireless environ- ments. However, SDN-enabled devices must be connected to a controller (i.e., a central entity) to be programmable. Therefore, if multiple controllers fail in a short period, regardless of the ample resource availability in Hybrid SDN environments, the whole network infrastructure, and the overall service are compromised. This article presents a mechanism capable of handling multi- controller failure in SDN by considering the hybrid nature of the infrastructure and the scale of the failure. Preliminary results show that by applying the proposed mechanism, it is possible to increase the device’s controller coverage by up to 70% even if half of the controllers are unavailable compared to conventional approaches.

Customer activity (CA) in retail environments, which ranges over various shopper situations in store spaces, provides valuable information for store management and marketing planning. Several systems have been proposed for customer activity recognition (CAR) from in-store camera videos, and most of them use machine learning based end-to-end (E2E) CAR models, due to their remarkable performance. Usually, such E2E models are trained for target conditions (i.e., particular CA types in specific store spaces). Accordingly, the existing systems are not malleable to fit the changes in target conditions because they require entire retraining of their specialized E2E models and concurrent use of additional E2E models for new target conditions. This paper proposes a novel CAR system based on a hierarchy that organizes CA types into different levels of abstraction from lowest to highest. The proposed system consists of multiple CAR models, each of which performs CAR tasks that belong to a certain level of the hierarchy on the lower level’s output, and thus conducts CAR for videos through the models level by level. Since these models are separated, this system can deal efficiently with the changes in target conditions by modifying some models individually. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed system in adapting to different target conditions.

Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) is a widely used standard for video content delivery. Video traffic, most of which is generated from mobile devices, is shortly to become the most significant part of Internet traffic. Current DASH solutions only consider either client- or server-side optimization, leaving other components in DASH (e.g., at the transport layer) to default solutions that cause a performance bottleneck. In that regard, although it is assumed that HTTP must be necessarily transported on top of TCP, with the latest introduction of HTTP/3, it is time to re-evaluate its effects on DASH. The most substantial change in HTTP/3 is having Quick UDP Internet Connections (QUIC) as its primary underlying transport protocol. However, little is still know about the effects on standard DASH client-based adaption algorithms when exposed to the future HTTP/3. In this paper, we present SAND/3, an SDN (Software Defined Networking)-based Quality of Experience (QoE) control method for DASH over HTTP/3. Since the official deployment of HTTP/3 has not been released yet, we used the current implementation of Google QUIC. Preliminary results show that, by applying SAND/3, which combines information from different layers orchestrated by SDN to select the best QoE, we can obtain steadier media throughput, reduce the number of quality shifts in at least 40%, increase the amount downloaded content at least 20%, and minimize video interruptions compared to the current implementations regardless of the client adaption algorithm.

The need for transferring large amounts of data in distributed storage systems with a faster rate is growing exponentially, thus, we need to increase the bandwidth and the overall throughput for effective data transferring. One of the techniques to improve network performance is Link Aggregation which consists on aggregating different links in pursue of the required bandwidth increase. However, regardless of the relatively easy implementation and deployment, it leverages the control plane and consequently network performance to vendor specifications. In our research, we utilize Software Defined Networking to control network for effective usage of network bandwidth. In this paper, we conducted preliminary experiments and conform limitations and problems of Link Aggregation. We briefly discuss SDN based solutions.

Usually, precise discrimination among person's activities requires the recognition of not only the person's posture and action but also the person's surroundings (e.g. objects contacted by the person), and this recognition process assumes that the individual regions of the person and the objects are extracted in advance from a data sequence such as a video sequence. This article proposes an accurate method for extracting the regions of multiple targets (e.g. a person and objects) touching with each other and separating from each other. Our proposed method, which uses an image sequence and a depth sequence, consists of three steps: segmentation of each frame (extraction of subregions), matching subregions between frames (extraction of subregion sequences), and merging subregion sequences. Using several features (e.g., image, depth, and motion features) effectively, our method can improve accuracy in the region extraction of individual targets.

To apply for surveillance of luggage lifting/leaving in a lobby and monitoring of buying behavior at a shop, several methods have been developed for extracting human and object regions from an image sequence, determining the relations between them, and recognizing the human activities for the objects. However, it is still difficult to determine the relations between humans and objects in crowded environments, and detect various types of human-object interactions. To deal with this difficulty, we propose a method for detecting human-object interactions (actions in which persons move objects) according to the results of hierarchical image analysis. Our proposed method extracts individual person regions from an input image sequence, and then identifies several body parts of each person. Based on those analysis results, the states around region of interest (lower arm) are acquired, and used as the features for detecting human-object interactions in crowded environments.

Current sensor-based service development models, however, do not consider the information flow among sensors with different owners. Our research objective is to achieve the software platform on which services can achieve fair information flow among providers and users. In this paper, we discuss basic contract models and communication protocols among sensor devices and confirm their practicality.

This article proposes a parallelization method for multi-view stereo 3D shape reconstruction using a PC cluster. The proposed method divides the subject 3D space into several domains by planes passing through a virtual view point, and assigns the process for each divided domain to a PE (Processing Element) individually. This process assignment approach can reduce the amount of inter-PE communication. In addition to this, the proposed method balances the loads on the PEs dynamically for efficient parallelization. The experimental results show that the proposed method can reduce the computation time up to 40% compared with a naive space division method and achieve about 9 times speedup in case of 32 PEs.

To reduce the intellectual and time-consuming load imposed on network administrators, we have proposed AIR-NMS, which is the network management system (NMS) based on Active Information Resource (AIR), and pursue our research for achieving the practical realization of AIR-NMS. In AIR-NMS, various information resources (e.g., practical knowledge of network management, status information of network equipment, etc.) are combined with software agents which have the knowledge and function for supporting the utilization of them, and thus individual information resources are provided with activities as AIRs. Through the organization and cooperation of these AIRs, they support the network administrators by carrying out troubleshooting in the network. In this article, we focus on the troubleshooting by the activated knowledge for network management, and explain the organization and cooperation method of activated knowledge in AIR-NMS.

For reconstructing 3D shape of a scene from more than two images, voxel based multicamera methods have been proposed. In these methods, the 3D space is divided into voxels, and the 3D shape of a scene is reconstructed by determining the voxels corresponded to object surfaces. To improve the accuracy and stability of the reconstruction, these methods require that the states of other voxels are reflected on the determination for each voxel. However, this process necessitates huge computation time. To overcome this problem, this article proposes a parallel computation method based on voxel space division. The proposed method reduces the amount of communication between processors by voxel space division which takes into account the slope of the line through a virtual viewpoint and each voxel, and also reduces the communication latency by a parallel communication. The experimental results shows that the proposed method achieves up to 8.2 times faster performance using 16 processors.

The ever-increasing complexity of distributed communication network systems in this information era demands a highly level of network availability and reliability. In this context, a promising knowledge-based approach is presented to support the automated detection of performance degradations and communication faults. The network knowledge has been structured according to the CommonKADS which is a comprehensive methodology for developing reuse-based expert systems. In the proposed knowledge-intensive framework, the static domain-related concepts are composed as the domain knowledge ontology. The empirical knowledge for managing the network is represented as the fault-state causal reasoning models, and it is explicitly encoded as the core knowledge of multi-agent middleware layer as heuristic rules for inference. This task-oriented experiential knowledge manipulates the domain content and structure during the diagnostic sessions. The run-time reasoning strategy during the course of cooperative problem solving phase is provided through the interaction of agents' base-processes with the dynamic status information of the operational network system. Few application scenarios have been modeled to demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed network knowledge framework.

Multicamera stereo methods, which use more than two cameras and employ multiple pairs of images, have been proposed and studied for obtaining 3D structure of a scene. Compared to a naive stereo method that employs a single pair of images, those methods can decrease ambiguities of image correspondence and achieve accurate 3D shape measurement. However, a decrease in measurement accuracy may be caused by occluded regions in an image. To deal with this problem, this paper proposes a multicamera stereo method with occlusion handling. In the proposed method, the 3D space in a scene is divided into 3D meshes, and every mesh is decided whether it corresponds to the surface of an object or not. By using the information of meshes decided as objects surfaces, the proposed method prevents occlusions from affecting the decisions on other meshes, and aims to achieve 3D shape measurement robust for occlusions.

We modeled interaction between the immune system and HIV with CA (cellular automata), and investigate an effect of diversity of HIV strains. Our CA model has not only four states but type of HIV and T-Cells. We performed computer simulation, variating maximum value of the diversity of HIV. As a result, T-Cell decrease and simulation steps increase were found in the situation with great diversity of HIV. We also observed infection state, incubation period state, AIDS state in CA pattern.

This type of search is called an "evolving search" and it performs an important role in academic information retrieval. In this article, we propose a novel architecture for academic information retrieval systems. The proposed architecture is based on multiagent framework and designed for supporting user's evolving searches. By employing the concept of Active Information Resource (AIR), in the proposed architecture, each piece of academic information is structured as an agent and provided with autonomy. Consequently, academic information itself can actively carry out part of evolving searches, and thus it is possible to reduce the user's load for retrieving academic information effectively.

The authors have proposed an Active Information Resource based Network Management Support System (AIR-NMS). In AIR-NMS, administrators' empirical knowledge and network nodes' status information are structured as agents(AIRs)to utilize them systematically and efficiently. By using the structured knowledge and information. AIR-NMS carries out part of the network management procedures, e.g., detecting obstacle, collecting information, and deciding measure. In this article, we discuss I-AIR, which is the status information AIR of a network node, and describe the design of l-AIR to achieve the active functions of AIR-NMS.

We have proposed a novel network management support system (NMS) based on active information re- source (AIR). In the proposed system, called AIR-NMS, the empirical knowledge and status information required for network management are made as agents. By coordinating with each other and organizing themselves autonomously, the agents support the network management procedures actively, which are usually charged to the network administrator. In this article, we explain the structures of the agents (i.e., "AIR-ized" knowledge and information) and their coordinating/organizing mechanism in AIR-NMS, and discuss the functions of an experimental system.

The agent-based computing systems have been design and developed using recent agent technologies. However, the design/debugging of these system is difficult due to the situational and nondeterministic behavior of the agents, and the effective design method and design support technologies have not been proposed. In this paper, to realize the efficiency of the development of agent system, we propose a new method of interactive design/development and support technologies based on repository-based agent framework.

To improve the accuracy of region extraction with active contour model(ACM), several methods have been proposed for using a priori knowledge about the shape of a target region. However, existing methods require training with samples of a target region or indicating the prototype of a target region, and these requirements cause a limitation on target regions and an increase of tiresome preparation. To deal with these problems, in this article, we take notice that an initial contour of ACM can include the shape information of a target region, and we propose a novel method for introducing a priori knowledge about the shape of a target region into the control of ACM. In the proposed method, by making the most of the shape information obtained from an initial contour, a priori knowledge is prepared from this shape information, and it is effectively introduced into the control of ACM.

For accurate and robust region extraction, region-based active contour models (ACM) have been proposed. However sufficient discussion has not been conducted on efficient and effective measures to introduce image properties into controlling ACM. Therefore, existing methods have problems on their processing time and the preciseness of their extraction. Considering these problems, we propose a method which introduces image properties into extraction processes effectively and efficiently by iterating clustering of region along an object contour and control of ACM. In the proposed method, the processing time is reduced by limiting the processing area to the region along an object contour. In addition, the preciseness of extraction is improved by clustering the limited region into subregions of appropriate sizes.

In an ortho-image, by recovering 3D information from multiple images, objects are projected orthogonally onto the image plane. To evaluate the difference between the real shape of an object and the model(e.g., CAD model, previous mesurements, etc.)quantitatively and visually, the ortho-images are needed in the field of close range Photogrammetry(e.g., industrial production and civil engineering). However, existing ortho-image producing techniques are based on aerial photogrammetry, they cannot be applied for the objects in close range photogrammetry. In this article, to solve this problem, a 3D measurement method in close range photogrammetry is proposed. The proposed method assumes that the model of an ofject is known, and this method applies DLT method to orientation, voting method to 3D measurement, and bundle adjustment method to orientation and measurement iteratively.

Since a large bandwidth is necessary for a high-quality communication, the bandwidth allocation scheme has been investigating. We presented a fair bandwidth allocation scheme: WFQMM (WFQ with the Maximum and Minimum bandwidth) by introducing the maximum and minimum required bandwidth into WFQ (Weighted Fair Queuing). In this paper, we discuss the performance of the WFQMM based on simulation using M / M / s model. It is seemed that WFQMM gives a good satisfied ratio (an average bandwidth) than a conventional bandwidth allocation scheme. A detailed simulation shows that WFQMM much improves transmission delay.

A hierarchical interconnection network:TESH (Tori connected mESHes) consists of torus interconnection between meshes as a basic module (BM), and allows exploitation of computational locality. To implement a wormhole routing on TESH, an appropriate method is required to allocate virtual links on a basic module, since the number of virtual channels depend on allocation policy. This paper addresses a link allocation policy that minimizes the network diameter and the number of virtual channels. Dynamic communication performances are simulated for TESH and mesh networks. It is seen that the dynamic communication performance of TESH is better than mesh interconnection.

To estimate current location from an input image, a method for recognizing landmarks in the image with the eigen-window technique is described. In the eigen-window technique, small windows called eigen-window are set in an input image, and these windows are compared with the eigen-window in the training images. In this article, we propose a method to select the eigen-window regions that are suitable for object recognition and parameter estimation from an input image. Furthermore, we propose a novel method for hierarchical-clustering of eigen-window, and to improve searching efficiency of the eigen-window technique, we apply the proposed method to construct the tree-structured dictionaries.

Most of region extraction methods using active contour model deform the contour model according to the local information along contours. For this reason it is difficult to extract a region with complex shape or varying texture by these methods. In this article, to use the global information for region extraction, a method using competition of multiple active contours is proposed. In the proposed method, multiple active contour models are set in the object and the background regions respectively. For a region in each contour model, the likelihood is estimated from the distribution of feature value. By the likelihood-based competition between regions, an object region is extracted as a set of regions. The effectiveness of the proposed method was confirmed by experiments of artificial and real images.

To reduce communication latency, virtual channel is introduced into parallel computers, and Round-Robin is adapted as a virtual channel flow control. However, Round-Robin policy increases large delay for a wormhole routing on parallel computers. We propose new policies of virtual channel flow control based on priority to improve communication performance of wormhole routing. This paper addresses new control policies; preempt and improved preempt for the priority-based flow control. Simulation results show that the preempt policy can increase throughput, and reduce communication latency.

To achieve high-performance computing for large scale advanced applications, many researchers have been studying massively parallel computers consisting of a large number of processing elements (PEs). A Fault-tolerance is one of the critical problems to construct massively parallel computers. Several reconfiguration architectures using spare PEs, tracks and switches have been proposed for 2D-mesh multiprocessor systems. Several reconfiguration schemes of 2D-mesh array theoretically discussed by only simulations. However, a hardware implementation of the reconfiguration algorithms to achieve fault-tolerance have not been studied yet. We propose new hardware systems to achieve self-reconfiguration of 2D-mesh multiprocessor systems. The hardware systems are implemented on FPGAs and evaluated on reconfiguration times and the number of gates required for redundant circuits.

The visual pose estimation can be cast within the framework of nonlinear systems. The existing methods have applied the extended Kalman filtering algorithm to the pose estimation. We propose a visual pose observer based on the dissipative system theory. The nonlinear observer is described by a vector field on the manifold SE (3) and has the optimality in the sense of the L_2 gain. Further, we show the exponential convergence of the estimated value. It is important key role that the potential function on SE (3) which is exploited to the control of the mechanical systems. Finally the effectiveness of the proposed observer and L_2 gain performance is confirmed by the simulations.

In this paper, we discuss the ability of the partial-retraining scheme to compensate the neural networks with stuck-defects of the weight or the unit. The partial retraining scheme only adjusts the weights between a unit which is affected by the defect and the units in the lower by the 2-layer back-propagation algorithm. We show the performance of partial-retraining scheme by some simulations. As a result, the partial-retraining scheme is about 100 times faster than the 3-layer back-ptopagation algorithm to compensate 0-stuck-defect of weight between the hidden layer and the output layer.

In order to protect the copyright of digital contents, watermark techniques that hide the copyright information into an image are researched. Especially the method that hides watermark into the frequency domain of an image has the high security, because it is difficult to remove the copyright information from the watermarked image. In this method, a trade-off between the security and the quality of the image comes into problem. In this article, we propose a novel method for hiding watermark with QMF, and evaluate the security and the quality of the proposed method.

In order to achieve efficient object recognition, this article proposed a new method to construct hierarchical dictionary for Parametric Eigenspace Method. In Parametric Eigenspace Method, a large set of sample images is obtained by varying a parameter(pose, size, illumination, etc.)and represented as a curve in the eigenspace, from this feature, the proposed constructing method classifies the sample images hierarchically along the curve. We construct the dictionary that has a tree structure based on the classified result and as a consequence we can reduce the cost of matching process. Furthermore each class consists of the images that have the similar parameter and feature, we can curtail the images efficiently based on the variance in each class.

In this article, a method to extract 3D region of an internal organ from helical scan CT data is proposed. This method is based on Level Set Method that propagates a closed surface with speed depend on its curvatures and gradients of image intensity, and fits the surface to a shape of the target region. In Level Set Method, a form for introducing 3D curvature into the method is not obvious and the extracted region is depend on a location of an initial surface. To treat these problems, curvatures based on the shapes of cross sections and two step extracting process are proposed. In the first extracting step, propagation speed depends on the gradients of image intensity. In the second step, the speed depends on the image gradients and the surface curvatures.

Many methods for tracking of moving object have been proposed. In those methods, it is too difficult to track multiple arbitrarily moving objects, especially in case the number of target objects will change, e.g. one or the target objects splits into multiple objects, and multiple target objects merge into one object. In this paper, a new method for tracking of multiple moving objects is proposed. To track multiple arbitrarily moving objects, a new active contour model (Snakes) is introduced. This model can be applied to split a contour into two closed lines, and merge two contours into a closed line. In the proposed tracking method, to find target objects trajectories, objects contours that are extracted from different frames by Snakes are corresponded with the feature (color, texture, etc.) of the target regions.

In 3-Dimensional Visualization, texture mapping is one of the most useful techniques to represent the reality in picture images. Texture adjustment from real images and mapping on graphic images are very complicate. In this paper, we propose an automatic technique for the 3D texture mapping. It is hard to determine locations of objects by picture images. Since most virtual reality system have precise CAD data for objects, we can estimate the location information from picture images. We implement four different 3D-objects to investigate efficiency of proposed technique and confirm an advantage by experiment results.

In this paper, we investigate parallel backpropagation algorithms for neural networks on massively parallel computers. We implement the parallel back propagation algorithms on the massively parallel computer nCUBE2 to evaluate the performance of three parallel models; unit-parallel model, learning-set-parallel model and pass-parallel model. It is confirmed that the learning-set-parallel model obtained much higher speed-up than others. The learning-set-parallel algorithm is applied to the image recognition of human faces. It is shown that, the computation time of edge face recognition becomes 3 times faster than mosaic face image recognition on massively parallel computer, nCUBE2.

Toward the realization of parallel volunteer computing (VC) using personal computers (i.e. nodes) on the Internet, this research project studied the system configuration method. For realizing dependable parallel VC, we need to solve the two challenging problem: how to configure node groups for job assignment and how to cope with node defection for inter-node communication. We focus on the redundant computation which is widely employed in the current VC, and solve the two problems simultaneously by the approach of dynamically reconfiguring node groups. We implemented the prototype parallel VC system based on the approach and demonstrated the feasibility of dependable parallel VC.

Scene flow is 3D vector field representation of target object's motion in a real space, which can be estimated from a set of image sequences taken at different viewpoints. Recently, high-speed methods for estimating accurate scene flow are needed in widely various applications such as CG, VR, motion analysis, etc. Our research addresses this issue. As an indication of our progress, we have developed a scene flow estimation method with voxel based multiview stereo and a parallel method for performing this scene flow estimation on a PC cluster machine. Furthermore, we demonstrate the effectiveness of our developed methods through the experiments on several applications.

A mechanism (evolution mechanism) for socialware that expands/enhances the sociaware itself to deal with various changes of both the users' requests and the systems' environment had been studied in this project, and the following results had been given. (1) An architecture of socialware designed as an organization of agents had been studied. A new concept called the evolutional agent system (EAS), which has an evolution mechanism as its component is proposed and a behavior control model of the EAS is defined to support the design of the EAS. (2) Focusing on the EAS realized by a single organization of problem solving agents, a design model of the evolution mechanism of EAS had been defined by using a meta-agent and the agent repository mechanism. (3) Using the repository-based multiagent framework, a flexible organization function of agents for EAS, a support function of interoperation of the agent system and the non-agent system (conventional information system), and a agent platform management function over the ubiquitous environment have been proposed and designed as the basis of the EAS. Moreover, the socialware components and socialware applications have been studied to get idea for designing the evolution mechanism of EAS.

Region extraction from images is an important topic in image processing. For this issue, active contour model (ACM) has achieved considerable success. In region extraction with ACM, a user first draws a contour C around a target region and defines its evaluation (energy) function B. This C is iteratively deformed so as to decreases B, and the deformed C that minimizes E is extracted as a target region boundary. Since naive ACM evaluates only the certainty that C is located on a region boundary, when an image has several object regions, there is no guarantee that C is deformed to correspond with the target region boundary. To solve this problem, several methods have been proposed for employing the a priori knowledge of a target region shape. However, the existing methods need the making of prototypes or training with samples, and thus they require time-consuming preparation work and impose tight restrictions on their target regions. To overcome the difficulties in the existing methods, we propose a novel method for employing the a priori knowledge of a target region shape. The proposed method is based on an idea that an initial value of C (an initial contour Cini drawn around a target region by a user) can include the shape features of a target region. In this method, the sequence of shape features (such as corner, line, and curve) is obtained from Cini. This sequence is encoded into a symbolic description and used as the a priori knowledge of a target region shape. During region extraction procedure, by finding the optimal assignment of the symbols (shape features) to the control points of C and determining the optimal positions for these points, the a priori knowledge is reflected on the extracted region shape.

To extract object regions from images, the methods using region-based active contour model (ACM) have been proposed. By controlling ACM with the statistical characteristics of the image properties in regions, these methods effect robust region extraction. However, the existing methods require redundant processing and cannot adapt to complex scene images. To achieve efficient and accurate region extraction, we proposed a new method for controlling region-based ACM. In the proposed method, to prevent redundant processing, a definite support area is set along an object boundary, and ACM is controlled by the statistical characteristics of the image properties in this area. Furthermore, to improve the accuracy of region extraction, the proposed method performs clustering on the support area and introduces this result into ACM control. Consequently, the image properties in a necessary and sufficient area can be effectively reflected on the region extraction process by the proposed method. Through the region extraction experiments, we confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed method. In the existing region-based ACMs, since it is difficult to determine the appropriate search areas, the search areas have been set heuristically. For this difficulty, the proposed method can determine the appropriate sizes and locations of the search areas in parallel to an object boundary. However, in perpendicular to an object boundary, the proposed method cannot determine the appropriate search area sizes. To deal with this problem, in addition to the characteristics of the image properties, a priori knowledge of an object shape should be introduced efficiently into ACM control.

The virtual reality (VR) becomes an active area of research as tele-interaction in recent years due to the advanced progress in broadband network. Virtual environment (Haptics) system with force feedback and the sense of tough allows users feeling of manipulating virtual objects. Thus, haptic research can potentially benefit a wide range of virtual reality application as in medical simulation, training, telemanipulation and applications for handicapped and blind community. This research addresses the Super-Tele-Interaction system architecture of multi-user remote communication in, virtual environment to make 3D objects in shared virtual environments. Users can experience touching and manipulating virtual objects, but also feel their haptics such as weight, surface smoothness, and compliance. Super-Tele-Interaction system consisting of haptic virtual reality and telecommunication is closely related to the network-based shared virtual environment (SVE) and can achieve multiple virtual worlds connected by the network to share information with one another. JAIST research group has developed and e implemented the network-based SVE to design 3D objects by multi users. INTEC research group has developed the haptic painting system in VR for traditional applied fine arts. IRII research group implemented the 3D-object design system in VR using pressure sensor array. We have also implemented VR robotics system for tele-interaction though the internet and proposed the haptics control system between network-robots and VR-robots. These research results are basic technology to realize the collaborative shared haptic virtual environment and super-reality tele-interaction system.

In recent years, we hava many opportunity to use 3D data in various fields and have been expecting the technologies that help understand 3D data easily. One of the most efficient method is visualize 3D data into 3D computer graphics. The 3D visualization much helps human beings to understand exact informations from a huge data. One of the fields to extremely required these technologies is the environment assessment to such as scenery projection systems. These fields are necessary for a method to composite 3D-images using real scenery and virtual objects. Many researchers have been studing 3D-image synthesizing systems. Typical techniques are classified into four schemes ; shading, shadowing, fractal and texture mapping. As one of the typical techniques, an image synthesis system using real scenery and computer graphics has been expected. In the 3D-image system using both real scenery and computer graphics, we have proposed a new strategy to measure positions and shapes of real objects and to obtain CAD data of real objects. The startegy releases human beings much works to make CAD data for synthesizing 3D-images. Further, it can save a lot of computation times required for rendering of 3D-images. Positions of real object is estimated by labeling each domain of real image and measuring the center position of each domain. A distance between a domain and the camera is derived by obtaining a center position of a domain All domains of real objected are sorted according to the distance from the camera. Virtual objects to be composed with domains which real objects are divided into similarly. The most far domain from the camera among those domains is painted over the screen and so on. The canceled rendering process is executed by painting domain over the screen. To develope the super-reality using 3D-computer graphics, we have proposed a new method to obtain textures from real images and to map the textures on 3D-CAD data automatically. It is seen that the automatic texture cuting can save much works and the automatic texture mapping achieves super-reality for 3D-computer graphics. Howevere, these strategies are only applied to the 3D-objects with simple shape. It is a future work to develop the strategy applying to objects with complex shapes.

This research deals with a 3D-mesh array on stacked wafers and its fault tolerant architecture. The architecture of 3D-mesh arrays provides a self-reconfiguration of interconnections using a recursive shift scheme. Anuj Chandra et al. also proposed a reconfigurable algorithm for 3D 1/ track model based on a compensation path scheme that was originally proposed S.Y.Kung et al. The 3D 1/ track model was, however, discussed only from the theoretical view points of extension of the 2D 1/ track model. This paper examines its fault tolerant performance to obtain the system yield of a 3D-mesh array using a self-reconfiguration scheme. First, we reviews recent WSI devices to construct massively parallel computers and summarize the merit of WSI parallel computers. Next. we deal with the mesh-connected multiprocessor architecture and reconfiguration stategies to enhance the array yield for WSI implementation. Reconfiguration performance of a mesh-connected parallel computer is discussed by comparing it to previous works. WSI implementation of a cube-connected cycles (CCC) is addressed and its yield performance is discussed by taking into account the chip area of the PEs, switches, and links. We also propose a new interconnection network HCQ based on a crossed cube interconnection to reduce the diameter and the average distance of the interconnection network. The excellent network property of HCQ is theoretically investigated. Finally, we discussed a 3D-mesh array on stacked wafers for massively parallel computers. A reconfiguration algorithm based on a recursive shift scheme is proposed. Applying the recursive shift scheme to a 3D-mesh array, it is shown that the reconfiguration performance becomes high and provides the possibility to construct a massively parallel computer on stacked wafers like as the 3D-mesh array.
