    The rational assembly of ultrathin films of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) —highly ordered microporous materials— with well-controlled growth direction and film thickness is a critical and as yet unrealised issue for enabling the use of MOFs in nanotechnological devices, such as sensors, catalysts, and electrodes for fuel cells. Here we explain our recent success of the facile bottom-up fabrication of such a perfect preferentially-oriented MOF nanofilm on a solid surface (NAFS-1), consisting of metalloporphyrin building units. The assembly of NAFS-1 was achieved by the unconventional integration in a modular fashion of a layer-by-layer (LbL) growth technique coupled with the Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) method. NAFS-1 is endowed with highly crystalline order both in the out-of-plane and in-plane orientations to the substrate, as determined by synchrotron X-ray surface crystallography. We expect that the versatility of the solution-based growth strategy presented here will allow the fabrication of various well-ordered MOF nanofilms, opening the way for their use in a range of important applications.

    Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) composed of metal ions and organic ligands possess regulated nanopores and their electronic properties can be controlled by varying the combination of the components. Electrically conductive MOFs are expected to show new functionalities generated from interaction of guest molecules into framework electronic properties and application of MOFs in nanosheet states will open further up their use in varied applications including thin film electronic devices. The aim of this work is to create highly-oriented conductive MOF nanosheets and reveal their electronic properties. Air/liquid interfacial synthesis was applied for creating highly-oriented MOF nanosheets composed of triphenylene derivatives with high π electron activity and transition metal ions. The planar electric conductivity of the nanosheets recorded as highest in related MOF nanosheets.

    The development of separation membranes with high selectivity and high permeability is strongly desired in the environmental, energy, and chemical industries, where separation and purification operations are essential. In this study, we aimed to develop ideal membranes for the ultimate separation performance, i.e., ultra-thin nanosheets with regular nanopores. We succeeded in creating molecular nanosheets with the targeted nanopore structure by assembling organic molecules with rich structural design bottom-up two-dimensionally through interfacial reactions between the air and liquid phases. We systematically varied the conditional factors that affect the nanosheet formation crystallinity.

    In this study, we focused on photodynamic therapy PDT which has a low-invasive treatment for the children’s or elderly’s body, and we conducted the development of new agents for next-generation PDT treatment. The introduction of sugar chains into the chlorin skeleton of PDT agents may lead to improvement of the uptaking into tumor cells and the generation the singlet oxygen based on the heavy atom effect. We proceeded with dye syntheses for PDT agents and prepared some new agents that have a good tumor cell-killing effect or adsorption ability of light with a longer wavelength. By utilizing the reactivity of heteroatoms for the formation of the molecular skeleton, we have established a synthesis method applicable to a practical synthesis scale, and are expected to be new PDT agents.

    原子・分子スケールの厚みを有する2次元ナノシートは、その次元性に由来した特殊な電子状態など基礎物性研究の観点、および分子デバイスへの適用という応用の面で注目を集めている。一方で、有機分子が金属イオンとの配位結合を介し連結した3次元ネットワーク構造を有する配位高分子は、様々な金属イオンと有機配位子の組み合わせが可能なことから設計性や物質群としての多様性に優れ、多くの新規化合物が合成されている。本件においては、分子1層の厚みを有する大面積の配位高分子2次元ナノシートを得ることを目的に、気液界面におけるナノシートの形成過程を明らかにしシート作製時の種々の条件が分子の配列状態にどのような影響を及ぼすかを詳細に調べた。 トラフ(浅い容器)を硝酸銅水溶液で満たした後、その表面に金属と結合可能なカルボキシル基を有するポルフィリン(MTCPP)の溶液を展開した。表面圧を測定しながら液表面を棒(バリア)で圧縮することによりナノシート(NAFS-13と呼ぶ)を作製した。放射光X線を用いたその場X線回折(XRD)測定により、液面上に形成したNAFS-13ナノシートの面内(in-plane)XRD測定を行った。また、MTCPPを液面に展開後、表面をバリアで圧縮する過程において平均分子占有面積(a)に対する表面圧(π)の変化(π-a isotherms)を調べた。表面圧が0 mN/mの状態においても結晶性に由来する反射ピークが観測されたことから、液面上でMTCPPと金属イオンとの間に配位結合が生じ、表面の圧縮なしに自発的に結晶性のナノシートが形成されていることが示唆された。 上述のナノシート形成過程に関する知見をもとに、シート作製方法を改良することで、よりサイズが大きく均一なナノシートを作製することに成功した。

    本研究の第一の目的は、有機配位子(MBU : molecular building unit)と金属イオンとの間に形成される配位結合を巧みに利用し、配列が制御された多孔性の薄膜をナノスケールで作製する合理的手法を確立することである。また、創製した薄膜の構造や特性を詳細に調べることで、ナノスケールで起こる新しい現象や機能を開拓するとともに、センサなどの素子としての応用の可能性を探る。これまでに、溶液プロセスを基盤とした分子ボトムアップ手法により高い結晶性を有する配位高分子ナノ膜の作製に成功した。液面を利用してLangmuir-Blodgett(LB)法により配位高分子ナノシートを形成し、このシートを固体基板に移しとる工程を繰り返すことで、1層ずつ、すなわちLayer-by-Layerでシートを積層することができ、得られた薄膜は面外、面内共に結晶性であることがわかった。 本年度においては、配位高分子の面内の格子サイズを制御することを目的とし、MBUとして様々な大きさのポルフィリン誘導体を用いてナノシート及びその積層を行い、その結晶構造を調べた。また、液面で放射光XRD測定を行うことで、液面上で構成要素である有機配位子と金属イオンが配位結合を生じ規則配列しながらナノシートが形成する過程を詳細に調べた。 液面において結晶性のナノシートが形成する過程に関して詳細に調べるために、液面上で放射光XRD測定を行った。展開液にMBUであるポルフィリンの溶液、下層液に硝酸銅水溶液を用い、回折計に設置されたトラフ上にナノシートの作製を行った。表面をバリアで圧縮する過程において得られた分子占有面積に対する表面圧の変化(π-a isotherms)を調べた。表面圧の異なるいくつかの点においてin-plane XRD測定を行った結果、表面圧が低い場合においても結晶性に由来する反射ピークが観測されたことから、液面上でMBUと金属イオンとの間に配位結合が生じ、表面の圧縮なしに自発的に結晶性のナノシートが形成されていることが示唆された。
