    Abstract We developed a compact and portable measuring instrument using diamond NV centers that operates on the USB 3.0 power supply of a laptop computer. Its portability is achieved by the low power consumption of the optics, realized by the diamond corner cube that enhanced the current of the photodiode to 2.1 times higher than that of the planar diamond, and that of the microwave source, reduced by 20 dB, which was realized by a microwave resonator using a λ/4 open stub that strongly magnetically drives the NV center. These results contribute to the social implementation of diamond sensors.

    The realization of electroluminescence (EL) of negatively charged nitrogen vacancy (NV) centers is important toward all-electrical control of diamond quantum devices. In this study, we demonstrated electrical excitation and detection of EL of single NV centers by using lateral diamond p+–i(n)–n+ diodes. It had been grown by homoepitaxy using the plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition technique. We introduced a lightly phosphorus doped i(n) layer to stabilize the negative state of NV centers. It was estimated that the efficiency of the electrical excitation rate of the NV center was more than 30 times enhanced by introducing lateral diamond p+–i(n)–n+ diodes structure compared with the previous vertical diode. Furthermore, the EL of a single NV center embedded in the i(n) layer region was characterized. The results show that the charge state of the single NV centers can be manipulated by the voltage applied to the p+–i(n)–n+ diode, where the emission of EL is increasingly dominated by NV in the range of 30 to 50 V.

    Quantum sensors based on nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamond are expected to demonstrate a wide variety of applications. For high-sensitivity quantum sensors with NV center ensembles, uniform manipulation of the electron spins of the NV centers in large volumes is required. In addition, a broad microwave frequency bandwidth for manipulating the NV centers' electron spin is necessary for vector magnetometry and measurement under a finite static magnetic field. Here, we demonstrate a broadband microwave antenna for uniform manipulation of millimeter-scale volumes of diamond quantum sensors. The simulation shows that the current is distributed at both edges of the loop coil of a single copper plate due to the skin effect. The loop coil acts like a Helmholtz coil, which realizes uniformity in the z-direction of the microwave magnetic field ( B1). The plate structure has a higher mechanical stability, durability, and a larger heat capacity than the Helmholtz coil, due to its large volume. The antenna achieves a higher performance than previously reported antennae, with a maximal B1 of 4.5 G, a broad bandwidth of 287 ± 6 MHz, and a peak-to-peak variation of [Formula: see text] over a 3.1 mm3 cylinder volume. These performances show that the presented antenna is suitable for manipulating solid-state spin ensembles for high-sensitivity quantum sensors.

    Color centers in wide-bandgap semiconductors, including diamond and silicon carbide (SiC), are attractive systems for quantum information and quantum sensor devices with excellent spin properties at room temperature. In addition, nuclear spins in crystals are expected to serve as the quantum memory and to enhance the sensitivity of quantum sensors with the combination with color centers as a result of an extremely long spin coherence time. Although the spin state of both color centers and nuclear spins coupled through hyperfine interactions is usually optically read out, an electrical readout technique is important for miniaturizing and integrating devices. In the present study, we report the electrical detection of silicon vacancy (V2) centers in 4H-SiC by photocurrent-detected magnetic resonance (PDMR) using a frequency-sweep technique. We electrically observe the spin coherence of the V2 centers and clearly resolve the hyperfine splitting of the electron spin signal for the V2 centers coupled with next-nearest-neighbor 29Si atoms. In addition, we apply PDMR to electron–nuclear double resonance (PD-ENDOR) to detect nuclear magnetic resonance of 29Si at room temperature and find that this method can resolve nuclear spins coupled with neighboring electron spins in the V2 centers. The realization of PD-ENDOR is expected to be a critical step toward the development of electrically driven integrated quantum devices.

    <title>Abstract</title>We demonstrate electrical detection of the 14N nuclear spin coherence of NV centres at room temperature. Nuclear spins are candidates for quantum memories in quantum-information devices and quantum sensors, and hence the electrical detection of nuclear spin coherence is essential to develop and integrate such quantum devices. In the present study, we used a pulsed electrically detected electron-nuclear double resonance technique to measure the Rabi oscillations and coherence time (<italic>T</italic>2) of 14N nuclear spins in NV centres at room temperature. We observed <italic>T</italic>2 ≈ 0.9 ms at room temperature, however, this result should be taken as a lower limit due to limitations in the longitudinal relaxation time of the NV electron spins. Our results will pave the way for the development of novel electron- and nuclear-spin-based diamond quantum devices.

    This project performs the electrical detections of nuclear-spin coherence and AC magnetic field sensing toward the fundamental studies of the generation of coherent spin current for developing and integrating quantum devices, e.g., quantum-information processing devices and quantum sensors. The electrical detection of Rabi oscillation and nuclear spin coherence with the electrical detection at room temperature is first demonstrated in diamond and other materials. In addition, the electrical detection of AC magnetic field sensing using a diamond quantum sensor using spin coherence is also the first demonstration.

    The first study is to perform electrical detection of the nuclear spin coherence in diamond based on a technique of electrical detection of NV electron spin coherence in the diamond. We measured Rabi oscillations and coherence time of ensemble nuclear spins in diamond using home-made electrically detected electron-nuclear double resonance (EDENDOR) spectrometer. The second study is to perform generation of microwave dressed states in a single NV center in diamond based on the Aulter-Towns Splitting to realize hybrid quantum sensors. We showed the coherence time of the dressed states is more than two orders of magnitude longer than that of the undressed states. Also, we theoretically estimate the enhancement of sensitivity by more than an order of magnitude compared with that without dressed states.

    This study is to perform following three experiments for realization of magnetometry using defects in diamond. (1) We made an electrically detected magnetic resonance system for the realization of the magnetometry. We have not detected electron spins in nitrogen centers but carbon vacancies in diamond. (2) We demonstrated the control of orientations of nitrogen-vacancies in diamond to understand the crystal grown mechanism of diamond crystal doped with nitrogen. We have demonstrated more than 99 % of the NV centers have been aligned along the [111]-axis using a chemical-vapor deposited diamond thin film on a (111)diamond substrate. We also clarified the grown mechanism. (3) We demonstrated the spin-injection into diamond to understand the interaction between impurities in diamond and conduction electrons. We deposited a nickel-iron layer on a diamond substrate, and we have observed the inverse spin-Hall voltage in such a sample.
