By focusing on Uzo Nishiyama's exchange activities with China prior to 1972, this study reveals two things. 1. Nishiyama, an architectural scholar influenced by Marxism, had his first opportunity to visit China in 1956, but was not realized because the government did not issue him a passport. However, in 1960, he could stay China for a month, inspecting new buildings and having a relationship with architects such as Liang Sicheng. 2. After returning to Japan, Nishiyama published his experiences in many journals, and also established the Japan-China Center for Architectural Exchange, exchanging magazines and sending reporter to Beijing Conference.

The purpose of this report is to examine the design process of the Republic of China Pavilion for the 1970 Japan World Exposition in Osaka, using materials dispersed in Japan and Taiwan. The research revealed that the first prize proposal for the pavilion was selected through an open design competition, but that the jury, Ieoh Ming Pei, rejected it, and the pavilion was redesigned under Pei’s coordination. It was also revealed that throughout the design process, the design of the ROC Pavilion, despite its apparent modernism style, consistently attempted to express the Chinese spirit and traditions.

“The festival plaza” with its big roof, designed by Kenzo Tange, was the facility of the Japan World Exposition 1970. The purpose of this study is, first, to examine how the big roof was removed at the seemingly halfway point of 1978, and second, to examine the case of conversion during its temporary existence. Through the analysis, it became clear that it was temporarily preserved as a symbol of “memories” of the Expo in the site utilization plan by Eika Takayama, and that a temporary exhibition hall with a tent structure was constructed for the China Exhibition held in 1974.

This paper aims to grasp the changes of Tiananmen Square at the beginning of the 20th century by using public documents, newspapers, and other literature. In the Ming and Qing eras, Tiananmen Square was originally a "forbidden square", however after the Boxer Rebellion and the Xinhai Revolution, the square became a public space on New Year's Day in 1913. After opening to the public, several new gates were built in order to improve the accessibility of Tiananmen Square. Some organizations even planed to turn the square into a commercial district, but it failed to realize. On the contrary to the newly allowable public access, the security of Tiananmen became stricter, and the Beijing Government monopolized the square sometimes and used it for some events such as Yuan Shikai's military parades on National Foundation Day in 1913 and 1914. It can be said that Tiananmen Square had characters of both a "forbidden square" and a public space at this time.

A total of 31 face-to-face or online lectures and discussions were held by architects, curators, researchers and artists. We analyzed the possibilities of exhibition from various angles. A total of 15 survey trips were also conducted. Due to the covid-19 crisis, it was difficult to go abroad except the UK, but we gained a lot of knowledge there by visiting university museums and museum of fine arts in various places. In terms of exhibitions, in addition to holding the "Effect without Address #0" exhibition (2020) and "Trans Connection" (2022), we participated in the Yamagata Biennale 2022, where we not only designed space and furnitures for the venue, but also exhibit a research project titled "Exploring the Time and Space of Bunsho-kan".Then a 188-page report book was created.
