The purpose of this study was to conduct DIF analysis of Japanese Can-do-statements, focusing on the learner's mother tongue, either Chinese or Korean, and investigate (1) concrete verbal behavioral situations that cause DIF and (2) the extent to which differences in methods for detecting DIF affects the results. Results indicated that (1) DIF was advantageous to a speaker whose mother tongue was Chinese, in the direction of 'Can-do' for 5 question items on reading and writing skills. On the other hand, DIF was advantageous to the speaker whose mother tongue was Korean, in the direction of 'Can-do' for 5 question items regarding speaking and listening skills. (2) Similar results, from the perspective detecting DIF, were obtained using SIBTEST, BILOG-MG DIF command, Likelihood ratio test, the Mantel-Haenszel statistical method, and Logistic regression method.

The purpose of this study was to compare the methods of detecting differential item functioning (DIF). We compared the parametric method which is executed by DIF command in BILOG-MG, and nonparametric method which is executed by SIBTEST. In the first study, we researched by simulation data. When the ratio with DIF item to all the items exceeds 50%, it was difficult to detect DIF correctly in both procedures. In second study, the real data, which is used scale for acquisition of Japanese word meanings, was researched. In both BILOG-MG and SIBTEST, the results of detection of DIF were approximately similar. However, estimated location parameters in BILOG-MG were very extreme, because latent distributional differences were very large between reference group and focal group.

The purpose of this research was investigating the equivalence between computer based test version and paper pencil test version in scale for acquisition of Japanese word meanings. CBT version was developed for this study newly. Item response theory was used for constructing scaling test items and analyzing subjects item response data. These tests were administered to 158 college students and graduate students in Nagoya city (CBT = 30, paper pencil test = 128). It was concluded that CBT version and a paper pencil test version are equivalent. It is required more study to investigate the influence of the experience operating the computer.
Relation between the commitment toward labor union and tenure : A case of a manufacturing company in Japan

This study examined the differences between young and senior members of a labor union concerning the commitment toward it. This study examined: 1) item analysis based on the item response theory; 2) influences of the length of one's tenure upon the commitment. Participants were 2675 members (2421 males, 253 females, 1 N.A) of a labor union in a manufacturing company in Aichi Prefecture. Items for scaling the commitment toward the union were carefully selected from a questionnaire originally conducted by the union in June, 2000. Item parameters were estimated based on rating scale model (Muraki, 1990), and test information was calculated. Relations between length of tenure and commitment toward the union were investigated. There was no strong evidence supporting the decrease in the commitment of the younger members (r=.09). More effective ways of analysis for further research were discussed.

本研究は，簡易型コンピュータ適応型テスト(CAT)について，1)そこから算出されるスコアに対して，テスト理論の観点からその特徴を解明すること，2) 簡易型CATの仕組みを，紙筆テストのような項目固定提示形式のテストへと拡張すること，の2点を目的としている。研究開始当初は，CATの開発およびそれを実際に実施して得られた受験者からのデータを分析することを想定していたが，コロナウイルスによる社会情勢の変化に伴い，2021年度以降の研究はコンピュータ・シミュレーションを中心とした比較検討を中心に進めるように方針を変更した。 2021年度の研究では，2020年度に計画したシミュレーション研究に加えて，項目難易度の段階数をどの程度にするべきかについても，シミュレーションにより検討することとした。項目難易度の段階数については，何も制限がなければ段階数が多いほど測定精度が向上することが見込めるが，特に人間（評定者）が難易度を決定する場合には，段階数が多いほど，難易度を正確に決定することができなくなる可能性が高くなると思われる。そこで，この点を考慮したシミュレーションプログラムを開発し，実際に難易度の段階数をどの程度にするのが妥当であるのかを検討した。シミュレーションの結果から，当初の想定通り，段階数増加による測定精度の向上と，難易度決定の失敗による測定精度の低下とのトレードオフが起きることが確認された。段階数がどのくらいが適切であるかについては，段階数以外の条件を設定し，さらに2020年度に得られた得点算出方法との比較なども織り交ぜながら，さらにシミュレーションによる検討が必要であることが示された。

This study examined the applicability of CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) to Japanese language education. First, we interviewed experts at overseas test development organizations and foreign language education institutions, and found that none of them had applied the CEFR to Japanese as is. Next, we developed a questionnaire to assess the level of proficiency of Japanese language learners to perform specific language activities, based on the language proficiency descriptors of the CEFR's listening, reading, speaking, writing, and interaction activities, then conducted a survey of learners in Japan and overseas in consideration of their native language. As a result, it became clear that in order to use CEFR in Japanese language education, it is necessary to adjust and supplement the language proficiency descriptors, such as changing the level.

In order to effectively teach students, it is essential to understand where they are located in the developmental stage using developmental scale scores or vertical scale.In this study we developed vertical scale for measuring student growth in multiple level achievement tests using IRT model as psychometric model. The target groups are from the 4th grade elementary school to the 2nd grade of junior high school.A cohort design was used as the survey design.The survey period was three years from 2017 to 2019.By using the developed scale, it is possible to trace the academic development from the 4th grade of elementary school to the 2nd grade of junior high school.

In this study, we theoretically explored "DIF (Differential Item Functioning) detection method using raw score" supposed in Kumagai (2015) , and developed a new DIF detection method. Specifically, 1) we applied DIF analysis for the data of psychological scale and analyzed the difference between raters. 2) we discovered that our DIF detection method included problems in the situation with some test booklets. So we suggested the solution about it, and verified it using real data set. In this solution, we clustered the examinees using latent traits of item response theory.

The purpose of this study is to develop “Family Finance Monitoring Scale” to measure Critical Thinking Disposition toward household economy, which is an aspect of financial literacy. 52 items were generated from the scales of previous studies (Hirayama & Kusumi,2004; Hirooka et al., 2000; Kawashima & Shiomi，1999). Factor analysis indicated that the scale has 4 factors, named “Logical Thinking & Objectivity”, “Comparison”, “Curiosity”, and “Non-Critical”. And criterion related validity has been confirmed.

In English language education, performance assessments, including self-assessment, through the use of can-do questionnaires are used to examine how well students have fulfilled the set goals. The data from these assessments are often polytomously scored. This study shed light on the methodology of analyzing polytomous data. Polytomously scored data from a large-scale English achievement test, an English writing performance test, and can-do questionnaires were analyzed using an extended item response model and the results were compared with those obtained by analyzing the same data scored dichotomously. In addition, differential item functioning (DIF) analyses were conducted on the polytomous data to see how the type of school and academic field affected the assessment. This study demonstrated the advantages of using extended item response models to analyze polytomously scored data in English language education and produced interesting findings and important educational implications.

In DIF analysis of can do statements scale and DRIFT analysis of scale for acquisition for word meanings(Shiba, 1978), the potentiality of application of DIF analysis have been presented. This study aimed to define and understand the factors that may help reduce respondent burden in questionnaire-based investigations. We developed abridged versions of psychological measurement systems. In a study involving college students where the questionnaire consisted of 190 items, the feeling of a burden and the rates of missing value didn't increase. Moreover, we published (Namikawa et al. 2004) techniques to shorten the length of questionnaires and improve their reliability. We developed shortened versions of questionnaires, such as the Big Five scale, the daily parent and child's relationship measuring system, the Japanese version of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for children (STAI-C), and so on. Finally, we developed a questionnaire system based on Computer-Adaptive Test to reduce respondent burden.

The present study developed the rating system for Japanese Language Oral Proficiency Test. In the system, spoken samples of examinees’ speech were accessed through the Internet. Raters could enter the results for each item shown on ascoring table, which was successively indicated on a PC screen. Rating of each rater was relatively consistent for each domain. Quantitative ratings were relatively more consistent among raters than qualitative ratings. However, some raters gave different quantitative ratings from others. The results of multi-faceted Rasch analysis indicated that dispersion of strictness between raters was significant. The estimates on the ability scale were not significantly different from the assumed ability of the 12 speakers.
