    Abstract Electronic nematic states, characterized by broken rotational symmetry, are prevalent in correlated materials. In most iron-based superconductors, the nematic anisotropy aligns with the Fe–Fe direction of the iron square lattice. However, recent investigations propose a unique form of nematicity oriented along the diagonal Fe–As direction in heavily hole-doped AFe2As2 (A=Rb or Cs). Yet, the transport studies focusing on the fluctuations of such nematicity yield conflicting outcomes regarding the presence and orientation of the nematic fluctuations. Here, we report high-resolution heat capacity measurements conducted under in-plane field rotation in RbFe2As2. While no discernible anomaly associated with the nematic transition is found in the temperature dependence of specific heat, the field-angle dependence near the superconducting transition (at ∼2.8 K) reveals clear 2-fold oscillations within the plane, providing thermodynamic evidence for the presence of diagonal nematicity. Moreover, we find that Mössbauer spectroscopy sensitively probes the nematic transition at ∼50 K with no evidence of static magnetism. These findings imply that the diagonal nematicity in RbFe2As2 has a distinct mechanism involving charge degrees of freedom, exhibiting unusual thermodynamic properties of the transition.

    <jats:p> The field-induced quantum-disordered state of layered honeycomb magnet α-RuCl <jats:sub>3</jats:sub> is a prime candidate for Kitaev spin liquids hosting Majorana fermions and non-Abelian anyons. Recent observations of anomalous planar thermal Hall effect demonstrate a topological edge mode, but whether it originates from Majorana fermions or bosonic magnons remains controversial. Here, we distinguish these origins from combined low-temperature measurements of high-resolution specific heat and thermal Hall conductivity with rotating magnetic fields within the honeycomb plane. A distinct closure of the low-energy bulk gap is observed for the fields in the Ru-Ru bond direction, and the gap opens rapidly when the field is tilted. Notably, this change occurs concomitantly with the sign reversal of the Hall effect. General discussions of topological bands show that this is the hallmark of an angle rotation–induced topological transition of fermions, providing conclusive evidence for the Majorana-fermion origin of the thermal Hall effect in α-RuCl <jats:sub>3</jats:sub> . </jats:p>

    Abstract The study of the iron-based superconductor, FeSe, has resulted in various topics, such as the interplay among superconductivity, nematicity, and magnetism, Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer Bose-Einstein-condensation (BCS-BEC) crossover, and Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) superconductivity. Recently, topologically protected nodal Fermi surfaces, referred to as Bogoliubov Fermi surfaces (BFSs), have garnered much attention. A theoretical model for the S-substituted FeSe system demonstrated that BFSs can manifest under the conditions of spin-orbit coupling, multi-band systems, and superconductivity with time-reversal symmetry breaking. Here we report the observation of spin fluctuations originating from BFSs in the superconducting (SC) state via 77Se-nuclear magnetic resonance measurements to 100 mK. In a heavily S-substituted FeSe, we found an anomalous enhancement of low-energy spin fluctuations deep in the SC state, which cannot be explained by an impurity effect. Such unusual behavior implies the presence of significant spin fluctuations of Bogoliubov quasiparticles, which are associated with possible nesting properties between BFSs.

    Abstract Chiral spin-triplet superconductivity is a topologically nontrivial pairing state with broken time-reversal symmetry, which can host Majorana quasiparticles. The heavy-fermion superconductor UTe2 exhibits peculiar properties of spin-triplet pairing, and the possible chiral state has been actively discussed. However, the symmetry and nodal structure of its order parameter in the bulk, which determine the Majorana surface states, remains controversial. Here we focus on the number and positions of superconducting gap nodes in the ground state of UTe2. Our magnetic penetration depth measurements for three field orientations in three crystals all show the power-law temperature dependence with exponents close to 2, which excludes single-component spin-triplet states. The anisotropy of low-energy quasiparticle excitations indicates multiple point nodes near the ky- and kz-axes in momentum space. These results can be consistently explained by a chiral B3u + iAu non-unitary state, providing fundamentals of the topological properties in UTe2.

    Iron-chalcogenide superconductors FeSe 1− x S x possess unique electronic properties such as nonmagnetic nematic order and its quantum critical point. The nature of superconductivity with such nematicity is important for understanding the mechanism of unconventional superconductivity. A recent theory suggested the possible emergence of a fundamentally new class of superconductivity with the so-called Bogoliubov Fermi surfaces (BFSs) in this system. However, such an ultranodal pair state requires broken time-reversal symmetry (TRS) in the superconducting state, which has not been observed experimentally. Here, we report muon spin relaxation ( μ SR) measurements in FeSe 1− x S x superconductors for 0≤x≤0.22 covering both orthorhombic (nematic) and tetragonal phases. We find that the zero-field muon relaxation rate is enhanced below the superconducting transition temperature Tc for all compositions, indicating that the superconducting state breaks TRS both in the nematic and tetragonal phases. Moreover, the transverse-field μ SR measurements reveal that the superfluid density shows an unexpected and substantial reduction in the tetragonal phase ( x&gt;0.17 ). This implies that a significant fraction of electrons remain unpaired in the zero-temperature limit, which cannot be explained by the known unconventional superconducting states with point or line nodes. The TRS breaking and the suppressed superfluid density in the tetragonal phase, together with the reported enhanced zero-energy excitations, are consistent with the ultranodal pair state with BFSs. The present results reveal two different superconducting states with broken TRS separated by the nematic critical point in FeSe 1− x S x , which calls for the theory of microscopic origins that account for the relation between nematicity and superconductivity.

    Abstract Bose–Einstein condensation (BEC) in quantum magnets, where bosonic spin excitations condense into ordered ground states, is a realization of BEC in a thermodynamic limit. Although previous magnetic BEC studies have focused on magnets with small spins of S ≤ 1, larger spin systems potentially possess richer physics because of the multiple excitations on a single site level. Here, we show the evolution of the magnetic phase diagram of S = 3/2 quantum magnet Ba2CoGe2O7 when the averaged interaction J is controlled by a dilution of magnetic sites. By partial substitution of Co with nonmagnetic Zn, the magnetic order dome transforms into a double dome structure, which can be explained by three kinds of magnetic BECs with distinct excitations. Furthermore, we show the importance of the randomness effects induced by the quenched disorder: we discuss the relevance of geometrical percolation and Bose/Mott glass physics near the BEC quantum critical point.

    Abstract The recently discovered kagome superconductors AV3Sb5 (A = K, Rb, Cs) exhibit unusual charge-density-wave (CDW) orders with time-reversal and rotational symmetry breaking. One of the most crucial unresolved issues is identifying the symmetry of the superconductivity that develops inside the CDW phase. Theory predicts a variety of unconventional superconducting symmetries with sign-changing and chiral order parameters. Experimentally, however, superconducting phase information in AV3Sb5 is still lacking. Here we report the impurity effects in CsV3Sb5 using electron irradiation as a phase-sensitive probe of superconductivity. Our magnetic penetration depth measurements reveal that with increasing impurities, an anisotropic fully-gapped state changes to an isotropic full-gap state without passing through a nodal state. Furthermore, transport measurements under pressure show that the double superconducting dome in the pressure-temperature phase diagram survives against sufficient impurities. These results support that CsV3Sb5 is a non-chiral, anisotropic s-wave superconductor with no sign change both at ambient and under pressure.

    Significance The notion of the quantum critical point (QCP) is at the core of modern condensed matter physics. Near a QCP of the symmetry-breaking order, associated quantum-mechanical fluctuations are intensified, which can lead to unconventional superconductivity. Indeed, dome-shaped superconducting phases are often observed near the magnetic QCPs, which supports the spin fluctuation–driven superconductivity. However, the fundamental question remains as to whether a nonmagnetic QCP of electronic nematic order characterized by spontaneous rotational symmetry breaking can promote superconductivity in real materials. Here, we provide an experimental demonstration that a pure nematic QCP exists near the center of a superconducting dome in nonmagnetic FeSe Te x . This result evidences that nematic fluctuations enhanced around the nematic QCP can boost superconductivity.

    Abstract FeSe is a unique high-$$T_c$$ iron-based superconductor in which nematicity, superconductivity, and magnetism are entangled with each other in the P-T phase diagram. We performed $$^{77}$$Se-nuclear magnetic resonance measurements under pressures of up to 3.9 GPa on 12% S-substituted FeSe, in which the complex overlap between the nematicity and magnetism are resolved. A pressure-induced Lifshitz transition was observed at 1.0 GPa as an anomaly of the density of states and as double superconducting (SC) domes accompanied by different types of antiferromagnetic (AF) fluctuations. The low-$$T_{\mathrm{c } }$$ SC dome below 1 GPa is accompanied by strong AF fluctuations, whereas the high-$$T_{\mathrm{c } }$$ SC dome develops above 1 GPa, where AF fluctuations are fairly weak. These results suggest the importance of the $$d_{xy}$$ orbital and its intra-orbital coupling for the high-$$T_{\mathrm{c } }$$ superconductivity.

    Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), which are self-assemblies of metal ions and organic ligands, provide a tunable platform to search a new state of matter. A two-dimensional (2D) perfect kagome lattice, whose geometrical frustration is a key to realizing quantum spin liquids, has been formed in the π − <italic>d</italic> conjugated 2D MOF [Cu3(C6S6)]<italic>n</italic> (Cu-BHT). The recent discovery of its superconductivity with a critical temperature <italic>T</italic>c of 0.25 kelvin raises fundamental questions about the nature of electron pairing. Here, we show that Cu-BHT is a strongly correlated unconventional superconductor with extremely low superfluid density. A nonexponential temperature dependence of superfluid density is observed, indicating the possible presence of superconducting gap nodes. The magnitude of superfluid density is much smaller than those in conventional superconductors and follows the Uemura’s relation of strongly correlated superconductors. These results imply that the unconventional superconductivity in Cu-BHT originates from electron correlations related to spin fluctuations of kagome lattice.

    We performed [Formula: see text]-nuclear magnetic resonance measurements on [Formula: see text] ([Formula: see text] = 0.12 and 0.23). We found from the relaxation time [Formula: see text] that nematicity and antiferromagnetic fluctuations show cooperative coupling.

    In strongly correlated electron system, anomalous physical properties and exotic superconductivity often emerge near the quantum critical point(QCP) of ordered phase such as magnetic order, orbital order, and charge order. By using electron irradiation, we have observed synchronized shifts of magnetic QCP and high-temperature superconducting phase in iron-pnictide superconductors, suggesting the QCP may enhance superconductivity. In heavy-fermion superconductor CeCu2Si2, a prototypical superconductor which emerges near the magnetic QCP, we have suggested exotic mechanism through the systematic study using electron irradiation. In iron-chalcogenide FeSe, we have suppressed the orbital order by S substitution. Our studies have revealed that the superconducting state abruptly changes across the orbital QCP.
