    In the K1.8 beam-line at Hadron Experimental Facility of J-PARC, a new magnetic spectrometer S-2S is being installed. S-2S was designed to achieve a high momentum resolution of Δp/p = 6 × 10−4 in FWHM. Several strangeness-physics programs which require the high resolution will be realized by S-2S. The present article introduces J-PARC E70 (missing-mass spectroscopy of Ξ12Be) and E94 (missing-mass spectroscopy of Λ7Li, Λ10B, and Λ12C) experiments.

    We have investigated space and astrophysical phenomena in nonrelativistic laboratory plasmas with long high-power lasers, such as collisionless shocks and magnetic reconnections, and have been exploring relativistic regimes with intense short pulse lasers, such as energetic ion acceleration using large-area suspended graphene. Increasing the intensity and repetition rate of the intense lasers, we have to handle large amounts of data from the experiments as well as the control parameters of laser beamlines. Artificial intelligence (AI) such as machine learning and neural networks may play essential roles in optimizing the laser and target conditions for efficient laser ion acceleration. Implementing AI into the laser system in mind, as the first step, we are introducing machine learning in ion etch pit analyses detected on plastic nuclear track detectors. Convolutional neural networks allow us to analyze big ion etch pit data with high precision and recall. We introduce one of the applications of laser-driven ion beams using AI to reconstruct vector electric and magnetic fields in laser-produced turbulent plasmas in three dimensions.

    Solid-state nuclear track detectors (SSNTDs) are often used as ion detectors in laser-driven ion acceleration experiments and are considered to be the most reliable ion diagnostics since they are sensitive only to ions and measure ions one by one. However, ion pit analyses require tremendous time and effort in chemical etching, microscope scanning, and ion pit identification by eyes. From a laser-driven ion acceleration experiment, there are typically millions of microscopic images, and it is practically impossible to analyze all of them by hand. This research aims to improve the efficiency and automation of SSNTD analyses for laser-driven ion acceleration. We use two sets of data obtained from calibration experiments with a conventional accelerator where ions with known nuclides and energies are generated and from actual laser experiments using SSNTDs. After chemical etching and scanning the SSNTDs with an optical microscope, we use machine learning to distinguish the ion etch pits from noises. From the results of the calibration experiment, we confirm highly accurate etch-pit detection with machine learning. We are also able to detect etch pits with machine learning from the laser-driven ion acceleration experiment, which is much noisier than calibration experiments. By using machine learning, we successfully identify ion etch pits ∼105 from more than 10 000 microscopic images with a precision of ≳95%. A million microscopic images can be examined with a recent entry-level computer within a day with high precision. Machine learning tremendously reduces the time consumption on ion etch pit analyses detected on SSNTDs.

    Abstract. We measured πE invariant mass spectra below and above the K¯N mass threshold in the Kd → NπE reaction in order to study the K¯N interaction and the Λ(1405) resonance. This reaction can be described by the two-step process: (i) K¯N1 → K¯N followed by (ii) K¯N2 → πΣ, where N1 and N2 are nucleons bound in the deuteron. We deduced the S -wave scattering amplitude of K¯N →K¯N in the framework of the K¯N πΣ coupled channel so as to reproduce the observed πΣ spectra in the I = 0 channel. We found a resonance pole at 1417.7-7.4+6.0 (fitting error)-1.0+1.1 (systematic error) - i[26.9-7.9+6.0 (fitting error)-2.0+1.7 (systematic error)]MeV/c2.

    Particle counting analysis is a possible way to characterize GeV-scale, multi-species ions produced in laser-driven experiments. We present a multi-layered scintillation detector to differentiate multi-species ions of different masses and energies. The proposed detector concept offers potential advantages over conventional diagnostics in terms of (1) high sensitivity to GeV ions, (2) realtime analysis, and (3) the ability to differentiate ions with the same charge-to-mass ratio. A novel choice of multiple scintillators with different ion stopping powers results in a significant difference in energy deposition between the scintillators, allowing accurate particle identification in the GeV range. Here, we report a successful demonstration of particle identification for heavy ions, performed at the Heavy Ion Medical Accelerator in Chiba. In the experiment, the proposed detector setup showed the ability to differentiate particles with similar atomic numbers, such as C6+ and O8+ ions, and provided an excellent energy resolution of 0.41%–1.2% (including relativistic effect, 0.51%--1.6%).

    J-PARC E70 experiment measures the missing-mass of Ξ hypernuclei (12ΞBe) in Hadron Experimental Facility at J-PARC. We aim to reach the best missing-mass resolution of 2 MeV/c2 in FWHM with a new magnetic spectrometer S-2S. The high-resolution spectroscopy of Ξ hypernuclei will play an important role to understand the unknown ΞN interaction. The experiment will start at the beginning of 2023. This article presents the preparation status.

    We present prospects for the $\Theta^+$ pentaquark baryon search using the newly constructed LEPS2 facility at SPring-8. The LEPS2 detector system features significant improvements in acceptance for multi-particle final states compared to previous experiments. Our search employs two complementary strategies: direct production in the $\gamma n \to K^-\Theta^+$ reaction using a liquid deuterium target with a photon beam up to 2.4 GeV, and $\bar{K}^{*0}$-associated $\Theta^+$ production using a liquid hydrogen target with a photon beam up to 2.9 GeV. The extended acceptance covers both forward and large angle regions, effectively spanning the kinematic regions explored by previous LEPS and CLAS experiments. The large acceptance and improved resolution of LEPS2, combined with these complementary approaches, provide unprecedented sensitivity for establishing the existence of the $\Theta^+$ or placing definitive upper limits on its production.

    Abstract Upgrade work towards increasing the beam intensity of the neutrino beamline at the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC) is underway. Monitoring tertiary muon beams is essential for stable operation of the beamline. Accordingly, we plan to replace the present muon monitor sensors with electron multiplier tubes (EMTs). We investigated the radiation tolerance and linearity response of EMTs using a 90 MeV electron beam. EMTs were irradiated with electrons up to 470 nC. EMTs show higher radiation tolerance than the Si sensors which are presently used as one of the muon monitor detectors for the Tokai-to-Kamioka (T2K) long-baseline neutrino experiment at J-PARC. The integrated charge yield decrease is found to be less than 8% after a beam irradiation equivalent to 132 days of operation at the future J-PARC beam power of 1.3 MW. The EMTs show linearity better than $\pm$5% up to the future beam intensity. The observed yield decrease is likely due to dynode deterioration, based on detailed investigation. The studies described here confirm that EMTs can be used as a high-intensity muon beam monitor. Owing to the reported results, we are proceeding with the installation in the J-PARC neutrino beamline.

    We measured a set of $\pi^\pm\Sigma^\mp$, $\pi^0\Sigma^0$, and $\pi^-\Sigma^0$ invariant mass spectra below and above the $\bar{K}N$ mass threshold in $K^-$-induced reactions on deuteron. We deduced the $S$-wave $\bar{K}N\rightarrow\pi\Sigma$ and $\bar{K}N\rightarrow\bar{K}N$ scattering amplitudes in the isospin 0 channel in the framework of a $\bar{K}N$ and $\pi\Sigma$ coupled channel. We find that a resonance pole corresponding to $\Lambda(1405)$ is located at 1417.7$^{+6.0}_{-7.4}$(fitting errors)$^{+1.1}_{-1.0}$(systematic errors) + $[-26.1^{+6.0}_{-7.9}$(fitting errors)$^{+1.7}_{-2.0}$(systematic errors)]$i$ MeV/$c^2$, closer to the $\bar{K}N$ mass threshold than the value determined by the Particle Data Group.

    The International Linear Collider (ILC) is on the table now as a new global energy-frontier accelerator laboratory taking data in the 2030s. The ILC addresses key questions for our current understanding of particle physics. It is based on a proven accelerator technology. Its experiments will challenge the Standard Model of particle physics and will provide a new window to look beyond it. This document brings the story of the ILC up to date, emphasizing its strong physics motivation, its readiness for construction, and the opportunity it presents to the US and the global particle physics community.

    We have constructed a new laser-Compton-scattering facility, called the LEPS2 beamline, at the 8-GeV electron storage ring, SPring-8. This facility provides a linearly polarized photon beam in a tagged energy range of 1.3--2.4 GeV. Thanks to a small divergence of the low-emittance storage-ring electrons, the tagged photon beam has a size (sigma) suppressed to about 4 mm even after it travels about 130 m to the experimental building that is independent of the storage ring building and contains large detector systems. This beamline is designed to achieve a photon beam intensity higher than that of the first laser-Compton-scattering beamline at SPring-8 by adopting the simultaneous injection of up to four high-power laser beams and increasing a transmittance for the long photon-beam path up to about 77%. The new beamline is under operation for hadron photoproduction experiments.

    <p>We aim to develop a novel technique to produce a high energy γ-ray beam of several GeV by adopting inverse Compton scattering of soft X-rays at an electron storage ring. Now an experimental project to demonstrate such a beam is being advanced at NewSUBARU by using X-rays from a short undulator and reflecting it backwardly with a Mo/Si multi-layer mirror. It will open up a way to construct new γ-ray sources at the next generation rings and to carry out new photoproduction experiments for the studies of heavy hadrons.</p>

    &lt;p&gt;現在建設中のSPring-8/LEPS2実験ではレーザー電子光を用いたハドロン光生成実験を行う予定である。本格的な実験開始前の基礎情報としてビーム形状の情報が必要である。我々は浜松フォトニクス社製MPPC-arrayとNIM-EASIROCモジュールを用いたモニター装置を開発した。本公演ではSr90を用いた装置の性能評価、及びLEPS2実験棟においビームプロファイルを測定した結果について報告する。&lt;/p&gt;

    &lt;p&gt;LEPS2実験では、ソレノイド電磁石をスペクトロメータとして、高エネルギーの光生成反応を用いた様々なハドロン生成事象の測定を計画している。SPring-8で加速した電子にレーザー光を当て、逆コンプトン散乱で出てきた高エネルギーのγ線を用いる。測定では背景事象となるe^+e^-対生成の事象を除去するエアロゲルチェレンコフカウンター(AC)を導入する予定である。本講演ではACの性能評価と2016年11--12月に行ったACを用いたトリガースタディーの結果について報告する。&lt;/p&gt;

    &lt;p&gt;大立体角検出器群を用いるLEPS2実験においてトリガー信号を生成するための検出器スタートカウンターを開発し,その性能評価を行った。スタートカウンターは,プラスチックシンチレータに浜松ホトニクス社のMPPCを接着したシンチレーション検出器である。宇宙線や陽電子ビームを用いた実験を行い,条件の最適化を行った。最適化時には,時間分解能は300ピコ秒程度だった。これはSpring-8のSR蓄積リングのRF信号の1バンチを分解するのに十分である。&lt;/p&gt;

    The purpose of this research is to perform the search for the missing particle, axion. Axion is one of the candidate of the cosmic dark matter. An axion is believed to be converted to one photon under a strong magnetic field. There is a theoretical approach that a strong magnetic field exists inside SNS-type superconducting devices. In the current and conductance curve of such device, a peak structure corresponding axion signal may appear. Based on this idea, we constructed a SNS-type superconducting device, and measured the current-conductance curve. Due to the large noize, we were not able to observe axion signal in the spectrum. We also clarified the controversial points of the theoretical prediction in the discussion with some other groups.

    Dark matter is one of the most important unsolved problems in modern astrophysics. Assuming that the true nature of the dark matter is undiscovered elementary particle axions, we have developed a CARRACK system to search for. Since the mass of the axion is unknown and its signal is considered to be very weak, it is necessary to realize low noise and stable experiments over a long period of time while changing the mass of interest. In order to reduce the noise level, we developed a bunching atomic beam generator using laser cooling and acceleration technology. The field ionization detection system has been improved to achieve a stable operation for a long time. After fixing some problems, we will start to search for the dark matter axions.

  8. 光生成反応による反K中間子原子核探索のための粒子識別検出器開発

    本研究の目的は光生成反応を用いて、現在、存否が議論されているK-pp束縛状態、K-pn束縛状態を探索することである。これらの束縛状態は、K-中間子、二つの核子から構成され、理論的に存在が示唆されているが、確たる実験結果は存在していない。過去の探索実験は、π中間子、K中間子、陽子等のハドロンビームを用いて行われてきたが、本研究は電磁プローブである光反応を用いて探索を行うことに特徴がある。 実験はSPring-8で遂行中のLEPS2実験において行う。反応はγd -> Ks K-pp反応を用いる。K-pp束縛状態の崩壊粒子であるΛ粒子、および陽子を大立体角検出器群、LEPS2スペクトロメータを用いて検出する。反応に寄与する粒子をすべて検出する完全実験を目指し、不確定性の少ない測定を目指す。 本研究では、荷電粒子識別、およびデータ取得トリガーを生成するスタートカウンター(SC)、検出器群前方に配置し、K中間子を識別するエアロジェルカウンター(AC)、ビームライン上に配置し、ビーム強度、ビーム形状を常時測定するビームプロファイルモニター(BPM)を開発した。また、SPring-8、東北大学電子光理学研究センター等でビームを用いた性能評価実験を行った。各々の検出器の概要、設計思想、性能に関しては、日本物理学会などで報告されている。これらの検出器は2016年12月に行われたLEPS2実験の初期ランに使用され、データ解析が進められている。 また、本研究ではLEPS2実験の前身実験であるLEPS実験で取得された既存データをもちいて、LEPS2実験でK-pp束縛状態を探索する妥当性について、異なった反応を用いて検討を行った。これらの結果については、国際学会、また国際ワークショップなどにおいて報告された。
