    ABSTRACT This study tried to quantitatively clarify the usefulness of supercritical fluid extraction for removal of chlorophyll and pheophorbide from Chlorella pyrenoidosa. C. pyrenoidosa powder was subjected to supercritical fluid extraction, and chlorophyll a and pheophorbide a in its extracted fractions were measured by HPLC-UV. Chlorophyll a and pheophorbide a in residue after supercritical fluid extraction became below of detection limit.

    This paper describes a supercritical hydrothermal synthesis method as a green solvent process, along with products based on this method that can be used as green materials that contribute to solving environmental problems. The first part of this paper summarizes the basics of this method, including the mechanism of the reactions, specific features of the supercritical state for nanoparticle synthesis, the continuous flow-type reactor and applications; this provides a better understanding of the suitability of this method to synthesize green materials. The second part of the paper describes the method used to synthesize Cr-doped CeO 2 nanoparticles, which show an extremely high oxygen storage capacity, suggesting their high potential as an environmental catalyst. Transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscope images showed octahedral Cr-doped CeO 2 nanoparticles with sizes of 15–30 nm and cubic Cr-doped CeO 2 nanoparticles with sizes of 5–8 nm. Octahedral Cr-doped CeO 2 nanoparticles exposing (111) facets and cubic Cr-doped CeO 2 nanoparticles exposing (100) facets were determined by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and selected area electron diffraction. The X-ray diffraction peaks shifted to a high angle because the radius of the Cr ion is smaller than that of the Ce ion.

    The cycle of short time passivation and the following weak reduction was repeated and oxidation film of a few atomic layers were formed and relaxed for a designed time at each cycle. In other wards, passive film was generated by dis-continuous passivation method such as layer-by-layer fabrication in a sub-nanometer scale. Then atomically flat surface was fabricated on the dis-continuous passivation film.

    Passive film was exposed by ozone gas to study the applicability of improving the surface structure such as atomically flat terrace. Because water and/or other minor species were contained in the passive oxide film, it is expected that ozone gas oxidized some of them and help the reconstruction of passive film toward stable crystal phase of oxides. The thickness increased remarkably by passivation at 800 mV (Ag/AgCl), but increased slightly in ozone gas and decreased in air due to reconstruction after rapid growth of oxides by the passivation at 800 mV. The thickness decreased by passivation at -350 mV, but increased apparently by ozone exposure. The widest terrace width was obtained by passivation at 800 mV and the subsequent ozone gas exposure. The terrace width with atomic scale flatness correlated with the corrosion resistance except for the increase in oxides film thickness.

    A laser-Doppler vibrometer was used to measure the vibration of a vibrating tube densimeter for measuring P-V-T data at high temperatures and pressures. The apparatus developed allowed the control of the residence time of the sample so that decomposition at high temperatures could be minimized. A function generator and piezoelectric crystal was used to excite the U-shaped tube in one of its normal modes of vibration. Densities of methanol-water mixtures are reported for at 673K and 40MPa with an uncertainty of 0.009g∕cm3.

    Abstract CH4–CO2 replacement in CH4 hydrate with high pressure CO2 was studied with in‐situ laser Raman spectroscopy at 273.2 K and at initial pressures of 3.2, 5.4, and 6.0 MPa. Replacement rates increased with increasing pressures up to 3.6 MPa and did not change at higher pressures (∼6.0 MPa). These results showed that the replacement rates were dependent on pressure and phase conditions with the driving force being strongly related to fugacity differences of the two guest components between fluid and hydrate phases. When CH4 hydrate was contacted with CO2 under flow conditions, in‐situ Raman measurements of the hydrate phase showed differences of cage decomposition rates between the Medium‐cage (M‐cage) and the Small‐cage (S‐cage) in the CH4 hydrate with decomposition of the M‐cage being faster than that of the S‐cage. The van der Waals–Platteeuw model was applied to the measurements of the transient data and it is shown that the theory allows estimation of occupancies of each component during replacement. © 2007 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 2007

    In supercritical water, ions are un-stabilized because of the lower dielectric constant, and metal oxides formed from metal salts. Thus, supercritical water is a good reaction atmosphere to synthesize nano metal oxides, when a metal salt solution is rapidly heated up to the supercritical state. To achieve the rapid heating, flow type reaction process in which metal salt solution is rapidly mixed with high-temperature water was employed. In most of the cases for nanoparticles applications (nano fluids/nano composite materials), nanoparticles have to be well-dispersed in solvents/polymers at high concentration, with keeping fluidity high. Thus, affinity control between the particles and matrix is the critical issue. In supercritical water, organic ligands can be miscible with water due to the low dielectric constant, so that in situ surface modification is possible during the synthesis of nano metal oxides. Based on this nano materials synthesis technology, a variety of applications of nanoparticles is expected including nano hybrid materials and nanocatalysts.

    In this research, we have developed a high heat conductive material that can be injected into the complex shape module by giving "fluidity" to the high heat conductive / insulating material. By synthesizing organic-inorganic hybrid materials by the supercritical method and controlling their dispersion and aggregation, we succeeded in creating ultra-high-concentration fluidic ceramics that achieve both fluidity and high thermal conductivity, and acquired knowledge that contributes to its design. This result is important because the amount of heat generated by the device has increased in recent years, and the developed fluidic ceramics contributes to thermal management for achieving the improvement of heat dissipation performance which is indispensable for maintaining the device performance.
