    In this study, an infrared micromagnetic circular dichroism system was developed to discuss the relationship between spin states and energy bands through dichroism spectra of molecular conductor materials and other materials. Experiments were performed at the magneto-optical station of the infrared material beamline BL43IR at SPring-8, which is capable of low-temperature microscopic measurements under a magnetic field of up to ±14 T. In order to observe weak signal due to magneto-optical effects, we built the circular dichroism system by introducing a photoelastic modulator (PEM) into the station, which covers 5000-800 cm-1 wavenumber region. Clear results were obtained with CdSb, which has been reported to have a large dichroic signal in the infrared region. Significant changes were also observed in molecular conductors, which exhibit various properties due to strong electronic correlations.

    擬2次元有機強相関電子系alpha’’-(BEDT-TTF)2Rb1.2Co(SCN)4(alpha’’-Rb1.2Co)やtheta-(BEDT-TTF)2MM’(SCN)4(M=Rb,Cs; M’=Zn,Co、theta-MM’)において、π-d電子間相互作用や電荷-スピン結合物性を明らかにするため、金属相ではホール効果、磁気抵抗効果、絶縁体相では磁気誘電効果などを測定してきた。theta-RbZn、theta-RbCoではいずれの効果も、温度、磁場変化に乏しく、π―d相互作用や電荷-スピン結合がともに非常に小さいことが分かった。theta-CsM’ではtheta-RbM’よりやや大きな変化が観測され、π-d相互作用の有無の違いもあった。しかし、alpha’’-Rb1.2Coはそれらよりも顕著な変化があり、π-d相互作用、電荷-スピン結合ともに非常に大きいことが分かる。 alpha’’-Rb1.2Coで見られた顕著なπ-d相互作用の大きさを見積もるため、スピンフロップ現象を利用して磁化や磁気誘電効果の異常を詳しく調べた結果、約30 Kの相互作用であると見積もられた。また、磁場中での赤外スペクトルを測定することで、スピンフロップによるスピン状態の変化が電荷状態に影響することを見いだした。

    a''-(BEDT-TTF)2RbCo(SCN)4 is a newly found strongly correlated π-electron system with the BEDT-TTF molecule of +0.4 valence or 0.8 π-electron band-filling due to the non stoichiometric Rb. This compound is suitable for the investigation for the filling-controll type metal-insulator transition. We have investigated the metal-insulator transition and theπ-d electron correlation of this system and other similar ones. We found that the insulator phase in the compound is a charge ordered state with 0.4 average valence of BEDT-TTF molecules, and phase transition by pressure from metal to semiconductor even at room temperature.

    In this research, we investigated the electric noise detection and the large charge response from the electric noise induced by the charge dynamics of pi-electrons coupled to the molecular structure dynamics from the proton-motion, the ethylene-rotation and so on. We obtained several results in the study of noise experiments of molecular materials; the large enhancement of the 1/f-noise coupled to the dielectric anomaly in the dimer-Mott insulator, the appearance of the broad band noise from the growth of the charge cluster in the charge glass molecular material and the quantum effect in the inter-coupling between the proton motion and the charge transfer in the supra-molecule.

    Macroscopic inhomogeneity due to the strongly correlated electrons in BEDT-TTF system was investigated by optical measurements. The phase separation between metal and insulator domains and its dynamics in charge ordered salts were observed by mid-infrared microscopy with synchrotron radiation. In addition, the spatial symmetry breaking in dimer-Mott type salts was investigated by femtosecond-pulse-induced terahertz emission spectroscopy.

    In this research, we investigated the characteristic non-linear electronic properties appearing in the strongly correlated electrons coupled with soft molecular lattice system in organic conductors possessing characteristic charge-spin-lattice multiple-degrees of freedom. We found that the novel charge-glass state existed around the charge-order insulating transition (electrons solid-liquid transition) in a molecular conductor. This charge glass state is the third electronic state, in addition to the electrons solid (insulator) and electrons liquid (metal), which indicates heterogeneously quenched solidification of electrons with quite slow time-scale of the electronic dynamics.

    In a material composed of molecular dimer, when electrons shift to either molecule of the dimer, dipole moments appear. In some organic molecular crystals, such a new dielectricity by the positional shift of electrons in molecules is suggested. In order to search for and understand the dielectricity induced by the fluctuations of positional degrees of freedom of the charge in the dimar and molecular, we systematically stdied the dielectricity in molerular compounds, (BEDT-TTF)X and (TTM-TTP)X. We have found that anomalous enhancement of dielectric constant due tothe growth of polar domain, freezing of the domain at low temperatures, and inhomogeneous elecric polarizations in relation to randomness in the crystals.

    We studied an organic charge transfer salt with the magnetic quantum spin liquid-like nature and electronic-ferroelectric property. The partly substitution of the donor molecule with analogues by approximately 1-10% results in the following remarkable variation of the electronic states. The 1% substitution with small molecules makes the spin liquid ground state unstable, while the dielectric properties are mainly governed by disorder. On the other hand, by the substitution with large molecules, the system becomes a superconducting state at low temperatures because of chemical pressure or weakened electron correlation.

    フラストレーション系においては、複数の相互作用のせめぎ合いの結果、スピンカイラリティーが有限の非共面な磁気構造がしばしば生じる。そのような系では、電子はスピンカイラリティーに比例する仮想的な磁場を感じ、そのため異常な磁気伝導現象が観測される。本研究の目的は、B20構造遷移金属化合物とパイロクロアモリブデン酸化物を中心としたカイラル磁気構造体においてスピンカイラリティーによって誘起される異常磁気伝導を開拓することにある。平成23年度は、B20遷移金属化合物で短距離のヘリカル磁気秩序が発現するMnGeにおいてスピンカイラリティー誘起の大きなトポロジカルホール効果を観測することに成功した。これは、磁場下の高密度なスキルミオン格子によるものであると考えられる。温度磁場依存性の詳細な解析の結果、このホール効果は実空間のスピンカイラリティー密度がホール効果と関係する実空間描像で理解できることが明らかになった。一方でパイロクロアモリブデン酸化物では、(Y,Cd)_2Mo_2O_7において、スピン間のフラストレーションの結果として、極めてdiffusiveな輸送現象を示す異常な金属状態が現れることを明らかにした。さらにここにイジング性の強いTbをドープしていくとスピン密度の高次のべきでホール抵抗率が立ち上がってくる振る舞いが観測され、三つの磁気モーメントの相関であるスピンカイラリティーによるものであることが示唆された。このような常磁性体にイジングモーメントをランダムに入れていった場合でもスピンカイラリティーが働くことが明らかになった。

    We have investigated on anomalous magneto-transport properties as spin-charge coupled phenomena in pyrochlore molybdates. We have succeeded in the synthesis of electron-filling controlled crystals by fine tuning of the condition for high pressure synthetic method, in which the diffusive paramagnetic metal state quite similar to that of under high pressure can be realized at ambient pressure. We have shown that the Berry's phase based on the real-space picture contributes to the anomalous Hall effect even in the paramagnetic diffusive state in (Y, Tb, Cd)2Mo2O7 with diluted spin chirality.

    We have investigated the anisotropy of the macroscopic electronic property for the charge/orbital ordering in quasi-two-dimensional transition metal oxides, which is strongly coupled to the crystal structural distortion with a low-symmetry. For the layered manganites with the single-layered and/or bi-layered structure, we fabricated the macroscopic single-domain of the charge/orbital ordered state, and succeeded in the observation of anisotropic dielectric, optical and elastic properties and novel collective excitation.

    本研究は、相互作用の競合(フラストレーション)によって生まれた非共面な磁気状態において、電子がスピンカイラリティーに由来する非自明な位相(ベリー位相)を感じたことにより生じた"異常な"異常ホール効果やその高周波版である磁気光学効果の研究を目的としている。本年度では、まず昨年度に引き続きスピンカイラリティー誘起の異常ホール効果が現れる(Nd,Ca)2(Mo,Nb)2O7の磁気光学効果の研究を行い、磁場方向依存性の詳しい測定を行うとともに理論計算との詳細な比較検討した。その結果、ベリー位相由来の異常ホール伝導度スペクトルはバンド交差点をまたぐ励起に鋭い共鳴を起こすということ最終的に確認することが出来、その結果をPhysical Review Letters誌に投稿、掲載した。同時に関連する研究を幅広く展開し、同じくモリブデン酸化物では、高圧下で局在スピン間の反強磁性相互作用と伝導電子を介した強磁性的相互作用が競合し、散乱が非常に大きい異常な常磁性金属状態が現れることを明らかにした。また、遍歴電子系MnSiの高圧下では縮退したヘリカル磁性状態の干渉によって一様スピンカイラリティーを有する磁性状態であるスカーミオン格子があらわれることが指摘されているが、そこでのスピンカイラリティーに由来する異常ホール効果を観測することに成功した。さらには、2次元ヘリカル磁性体のBa2CuGe2O7においては、その結晶格子が空間反転対称性を破れていることを利用して、電場によってヘリカル磁気構造の方向が制御できることを明らかにした。

    We have investigated the high pressure effect for the pyrochlore-type molybdates, which is the Mott transition system, to search for new spin-charge coupled phenomena in the geometrically frustrated lattices. It was found that a strongly correlated paramagnetic metal phase emerges under high pressures regardless of the ground state at ambient pressure. This anomalous metallic phase is considered as a result of the spin frustration due to the antiferromagnetic superexchange interaction enhanced by the external pressure.

    In this study we have developed the magnetic ferroelectric oxides which may host the gigantic magnetoelectric effect. We could control the electric polarization in the materials by magnetic field as the gigantic magnetoelectric effect, and some times the magnetic structure itself by electric field as the reciprocal effect. The gigantic optical magnetoelectric (magneto-chiral) effect was also observed. We have aimed at the realization of the gigantic magnetoelectric effect, and found new magnetic ferroelectrics based on the time and space symmetry breaking, multicriticality of electronic phases, and the chirality in lattices and frustration of spins. We have found magnetic ferroelectricity in perovskite type manganites RMnO_3 and Pr(Sr, Ca)_2Mn_2O_7, spinets CoCr_2O_4, and low dimensional frustration oxides Cu(Fe, Al)O_2, and LiCu_2O_2, in which polarization was controlled by magnetic field. Furthermore the change of the magnetic chirality with external electric field was confirmed by synchrotron x ray radiation, and neutron scattering studies. The gigantic optical magnetoelectric effect has various potentials for the new optical devices such as an optical isolator in the optical communication. We have succeeded in the synthesis of the single crystals of the rare earth metal doped (Ba, Sr)TiO_3, La_2Ti_2O_7 and so on, and observed the emission spectra due to the optical magnetoelectric effect. Moreover, we observed the optical magnetoelectric response stem from the magnetic interface of the tailor-made tricolor superlattice of LaMnO_3/SrMnO_3/LaAlO_3. In collaboration with theory groups, we show the origins of these effects are the unconventional magnetoelectric coupling characterized by the quantities of spin current and toroidal moment. We believe that this made a great contribution to the progress of the new spintronics.
