    Abstract In photonic quantum applications, optical routers are required to handle single photons with low loss, high speed, and preservation of their quantum states. Single-photon routing with maintained polarization states is particularly important for utilizing them as qubits. Here, we demonstrate a polarization-maintaining electro-optic router compatible with single photons. Our custom electro-optic modulator is embedded in a configuration of a Mach–Zehnder interferometer, where each optical component achieves polarization-maintaining operation. We observe the performance of the router with 2%–4% loss, 20 dB switching extinction ratio, 2.9 ns rise time, and >99% polarization process fidelity to an ideal identity operation.

    Abstract This study explores the enhancement of emission from a single photon emitter in a quantum communication network by coupling the source with an optical nanofiber and leveraging gold nanoparticles for Purcell enhancement. Large Purcell enhancements of more than 50 times were recently reported experimentally, but the understanding of important issues, including the maximum Purcell factor and limits to quantum efficiency due to ohmic losses, is still lacking. Our findings reveal that the reported experimental results are reasonable, and confirm that such composite devices provide a promising route for high-efficiency single photon sources coupled to an optical fiber-based quantum communication network.

    We demonstrate the single-qubit variable-strength measurement and the error-disturbance relation in a quantum computer. It illustrated that an quantum computer can be a useful platform for exploring the foundation of quantum physics.
