    We construct a general theoretical framework for describing curvature-induced spin-orbit interactions on the basis of group theory. Our theory can systematically determine the emergence of spin splitting in the band structure according to symmetry in the wavenumber space and the bending direction of the material. As illustrative examples, we derive the curvature-induced spin-orbit coupling for carbon and silicon nanotubes. Our theory offers a strategy for designing valley-contrasting spin-orbit coupled materials by tuning their curvatures.

    We propose an experimental method for extracting the zero-point energy from a local vacuum state by performing local operations and classical communication (LOCC). We model a quantum Hall edge channel as a quantum entangled many-body channel and the zero-point fluctuation in the charge density of the channel as the vacuum state. We estimate the order of the energy gain using reasonable experimental parameters. Such a quantum feedback system breaks the passivity of a local vacuum state. It can be used to demonstrate Maxwell's demon or quantum energy teleportation in which no physical entity transports energy.

    <jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>We aimed to compare longitudinal brain atrophy in patients with neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) with healthy controls (HCs). The atrophy rate in patients with anti-aquaporin-4 antibody-positive NMOSD (AQP4 + NMOSD) was compared with age-sex-matched HCs recruited from the Japanese Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative study and another study performed at Chiba University. Twenty-nine patients with AQP4 + NMOSD and 29 HCs were enrolled in the study. The time between magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans was longer in the AQP4 + NMOSD group compared with the HCs (median; 3.2 vs. 2.9 years, <jats:italic>P</jats:italic> = 0.009). The annualized normalized white matter volume (NWV) atrophy rate was higher in the AQP4 + NMOSD group compared with the HCs (median; 0.37 vs. − 0.14, <jats:italic>P</jats:italic> = 0.018). The maximum spinal cord lesion length negatively correlated with NWV at baseline MRI in patients with AQP4 + NMOSD (Spearman’s rho =  − 0.41, <jats:italic>P</jats:italic> = 0.027). The annualized NWV atrophy rate negatively correlated with the time between initiation of persistent prednisolone usage and baseline MRI in patients with AQP4 + NMOSD (Spearman’s rho =  − 0.43, <jats:italic>P</jats:italic> = 0.019). Patients with AQP4 + NMOSD had a greater annualized NWV atrophy rate than HCs. Suppressing disease activity may prevent brain atrophy in patients with AQP4 + NMOSD. </jats:p>

    For most chiralities, semiconducting nanotubes display topologically protected end states of multiple degeneracies. We demonstrate using density matrix renormalization group based quantum chemistry tools that the presence of Coulomb interactions induces the formation of robust end spins. These are the close analogs of ferromagnetic edge states emerging in graphene nanoribbons. The interaction between the two ends is sensitive to the length of the nanotube, its dielectric constant, and the size of the end spins: for S=1/2 end spins, their interaction is antiferromagnetic, while for S>1/2, it changes from antiferromagnetic to ferromagnetic as the nanotube length increases. The interaction between end spins can be controlled by changing the dielectric constant of the environment, thereby providing a possible platform for two-spin quantum manipulations.

    A 71-year-old man was referred to us with a right renal mass that was discovered by computed tomography (CT) examination for acquired hemophilia and leukemoid reaction. He presented with persistent low-grade fever and purpura on the lower legs caused by acquired hemophilia. Contrastenhanced CT scan showed a right renal tumor 6.0×7.4 cm in diameterwith inhomogeneous enhancement. The result of his urine cytology was negative. After improvement of his coagulation by treatment with immunosuppressants and steroids, he underwent open nephrectomy. Histology of renal tissue revealed urothelial carcinoma (G3, pT4, N1). After surgery, his complete blood counts and coagulation improved without administration of immunosuppressants and steroids. Therefore, he was diagnosed with renal pelvic cancer with acquired hemophilia and leukemoid reaction.

    20nm-node planar MONOS cell which has improved reliability is developed. Extremely wide program/erase Vth window and good retention characteristics after cycling stress are obtained by buried charge cell structure. Moreover, Vth shift by interference between adjacent cells has smaller dependence on the cell-cell space than Vth window improvement when the half pitch is constant. These results show that the buried charge planar MONOS cell is suitable for Flash memory with 20nm-node and beyond.

    <jats:p> Long-Term Care Insurance (LTCI), introduced in Japan in 2000, is rapidly turning into a system of rationed benefits due to financial difficulty. Based on our survey of 2,530 family care-givers and the Zarit Care-Giver Burden Index, we have examined how LTCI is affecting their subjective burden. We have found that, as Kishida and Tanigaki (2004) had shown, (i) insufficient provision of short-term stays, day services and home-helper services, as well as (ii) disruptive or antisocial behaviors of the elderly, increase the care-giver's burden. We then argue that (iii) these results establish the positive contribution of LTCI in the well-being of family care-givers, (iv) short-term stay is the most efficient service, followed by home-helper service, and day service is the least efficient, and we show that (v) J-ZBIC-8 works well enough for many practical purposes. </jats:p>

    Original approaches using plasma processing technology have been performed in order to develop fullerene- and nanotube-based materials with new functions, where various kinds of plasma sources are devised: pair-ion plasma, alkali-fullerene plasma, and radio-frequency reactive plasma. As a result of the process control of these plasmas we have succeeded in creating novel structured nano carbons such as fullerene dimers, alkali-metal encapsulated fullerenes, individually-aligned pristine single-walled carbon nanotubes, and alkali-metal and/or fullerene encapsulated single-walled carbon nanotubes.

    Polar orange pigments were extracted from the cultured cells of marine bacterium strain SD-212 and purified by chromatographic methods. The structures of two new trihydroxy-keto-carotenoids, (2R, 3S, 3'S)-2-hydroxyastaxanthin (1) and (2R, 3S, 3'R)-2-hydroxyadonixanthin (2) were determined by means of spectral methods. Known carotenoids (3S, 2'R, 3'R)-erythroxanthin (3), (2R, 3S, 2'R, 3'S)-2, 3, 2', 3'-tetrahydroxy-β, β-carotene-4, 4'-dione (4), (2R, 3S, 2'R, 3'R)-2, 3, 2', 3'-tetrahydroxy-β, β-caroten-4-one (5), (3S, 3'S)-astaxanthin (6), and (3S, 3'R)-adonixanthin (7) were also isolated.

    In attempts to find new sources of astaxanthin, approximately 200 strains of marine bacteria were collected from the sea near Okinawa Islands for screening. Silica gel TLC, VIS, EIMS, 1H-NMR, CD, and optical resolution HPLC data indicated that one of the strains, Agrobacterium aurantiacum, produced (3S, 3'S)-astaxanthin and (3S, 3'R)-4-ketozeaxanthin.

    本研究の目的はカーボンナノチューブなどのナノカーボンにおけるトポロジカルな性質に起因するフォノンと結晶構造についての関係を明らかにすることである。トポロジカルな性質によるフォノンの振動モード,エネルギーや結晶構造との関係が明らかになれば,熱伝導,電気伝導,またラマン散乱といった光物性などフォノンが関わる現象においても新しい知見が得られる可能性がある。 2020年度に引き続いて2021年度は有限の長さのカーボンナノチューブにおけるフォノン分散関係と振動モードの関係について,有限の長さのカーボンナノチューブの直径,カイラリティ,長さとの関係を明らかにするための数値計算プログラムの改良と開発,数値計算の結果を解析するために必要な理論の展開,および有限の長さのアームチェアカーボンナノチューブ,ジグザグカーボンナノチューブ,カイラルカーボンナノチューブにおけるフォノンの振動モードの数値計算をforce constantモデルなどを用いて進めた。数値計算の結果および解析から有限の長さのカーボンナノチューブの端に局在する振動モードとそのエネルギー,結晶構造との関係およびそれらの性質について議論を展開した。さらに有限の長さのカーボンナノチューブの直径,カイラリティ,長さ,端の状態などを系統的に変えた数値計算を引き続いて進展させ,トポロジカルな性質に起因するフォノンが関わると予想される現象についての考察や,カーボンナノチューブのナノメカニカルデバイスへの応用などについて考察を行った。

    The purpose of this study was to clarify the electronic states in mesoscopic one-dimensional such as carbon nanotubes. We had performed theoretical calculation for finite-length carbon nanotubes by using the effective one-dimensional lattice model which have been developed by us. We have shown the role of valley degrees of freedom on the formation of quantum levels of electrons confined in one dimension. And we have discovered that topological states appear at the edges. Furthermore, by joint international researches, we have shown the Majorana quasiparticles appear under the superconducting correlation, the localized spin moments on the topological states by electron correlation and the details of the interaction between the spins.

    The purpose of this study was to clarify theoretically the conditions of appearance of Majorana quasi-particles in the carbon nanotubes, which have not been extensively investigated for the Majorana quasi-particles. We also focused on the effects such as the electron correlations which could affects on the stability of the Majorana quasi-particles. By joint international researches, we have shown the Majorana quasi-particles appear under the superconducting correlation, and the localized spin moments on the topological states by electron correlation and the details of the interaction between the spins.

    The purpose of this study was to clarify the electron correlation in mesoscopic one-dimensional such as carbon nanotubes. We constructed an effective one-dimensional lattice model which incorporates the effects of small gap and curvature-induced spin-orbit interaction, and using the model, we investigated the electron correlation of the system. It was shown that Majorana quasiparticles appear under superconducting correlation in a collaboration with the University of Regensburg (Germany). Details of the interaction between spins localized near the left and right edges as a result of electron correlation in the topological edge states were clarified in a collaboration with Budapest University of Technology and Economics (Hungary).

    本研究は、カーボンナノチューブにおける電子の角運動量状態を明らかにすること、そして、電子格子結合を介して、電子系の角運動量が格子系に伝達する状況を理論的手法により調べることを目的としている。この研究を通じ、異種量子間の結合や散逸の微視的なメカニズムの探求といった基礎科学への寄与や、さらには高効率で駆動する回転子などの応用への道筋を与えることを目指している。 昨年度までの研究で、ナノチューブに閉じ込められた電子がどのような角運動量状態を取るのかを様々な螺旋度のナノチューブに対して調べた。その結果、多くのナノチューブでは谷状態が結合するため、2つの谷に由来する軌道の縮退が解かれることが明らかとなった。この場合、電子数が奇数の場合には不対電子の存在によりナノチューブにスピンが生じる。このような状況を、よく用いられる量子ドットモデルでモデル化した。さらに電子スピンとナノチューブ格子との結合に関し、角運動量の伝達する状況のモデル化を行った。それらのモデルをもとに、角運動量移行に伴う回転機構を用いた回転子として、スピンフィルタ構造を有し、かつ、軸周りに自由に運動できる自立チューブ構造を提案し、理論モデルを提唱した。この系の回転の様子を調べるため、マスター方程式の方法で系の時間発展を定式化し、数値計算プログラムを開発した。開発したプログラムにより数値計算を実行することで、電子スピンの反転に伴い回転子が回転する様子を示した。 さらに、昨年度までの研究でナノチューブの有効一次元格子模型を開発し、これによりナノチューブの低エネルギーの電子状態を定量的に再現することが可能となった。有効一次元格子模型をもとに、ナノチューブ-超伝導ハイブリッド構造の解析を行い、伝導に寄与する角運動量状態に着目し、超伝導ギャップ中に端状態が現れることを明らかとした。

    低次元系における電子の量子揺らぎと少数電子間のクーロン相互作用(電子相関)により生じる電気伝導特性への影響を理論的及び実験的に調べた。 (1)量子ポイントコンタクト間の量子揺らぎによるトンネル効果と電子相関の関係を明らかにするため、2重結合及び3重結合量子ポイントコンタクトの作製を行った。さらに2重及び3重結合量子ポイントコンタクトの1.5Kで動作を確認した。詳細なトンネル効果と電子相関の関係を明らかにするためには、希釈冷凍機を用いた100mK以下の測定を行う必要がある。(2)低次元電子相関を解析するために、数値繰り込み群法に基づいた数値計算プログラムの作成を行った。また、現実の系に対して電子相関等の理論的な取り扱いを行うには、主要な状態を抜き出すことが有効である。この観点より、角運動量を用いたモード展開の定式化を行った。具体例として、定式化をカーボンナノチューブに適用することで、有効一次元格子モデルの具体的な表式を与えた。(3)2重量子井戸構造を用いて結合量子ホール系を実現し、核スピンの拡散係数異方性を昨年度明らかにした。この異方的な拡散効果を利用して、分数量子ホール系と核スピンの相互作用について明らかにした。(4)3重量子井戸構造を用いることにより、3重結合量子ホール系を実現し、その電気伝導特性を調べた。その結果、トンネル効果と電子相関を制御することにより、強磁性状態や一重項状態を実現できることがわかった。(5)直列2重量子ドットの電気伝導特性において、光学フォノンを吸収した場合においても電子波のコヒーレンス性が保たれることが明らかにした。 上記の研究を通して、2本の論文、7件の国際学会及び3件の国内学会の発表を行った。

    Electronic states in the carbon nanotubes have been investigated by numerical and analytical methods which take into account the curvature of tube surface and the spin-orbit interaction. Velocity difference between the left- and right-going waves in the same valley, vernier-like spectrum and spin-orbit splitting in finite-length carbon nanotubes have been shown. These features uncover the electronic states in low temperature which are not able to be captured by the conventional picture of the valley degeneracy. The knowledge given in this research will give important aspect to understand the dynamics of spin, relaxation of spin, effect of spin in transport properties, and the controling of the spin in the carbon nanotubes.

  1. 物性系に現れる負エネルギー密度の理論研究

    量子力学の1つの特徴は最低エネルギー状態である基底状態においても量子揺らぎが存在することである。 スクィージング操作を用いるとこの揺らぎは局所的領域において基底状態よりも更に抑制することが可能 になる。場の量子論においてこの揺らぎの抑制効果は負のエネルギー密度(真空状態でのエネルギー密度の 平均値を零と定義している)によって記述される。この負エネルギー密度が基本的な役割を担う興味深い現 象としてブラックホールのホーキング輻射や、最近提案された量子エネルギーテレポーテーション(QET) がある。実際のブラックホールでホーキング輻射を観測することは現段階では不可能であるが、QETの実 装が期待される量子ホール系や他の物性系を用いると量子音波を用いたブラックホールのアナロジー系を 作って間接的に実験を行える可能性がある。本研究ではQETやホーキング輻射などの物性系における負エ ネルギー密度に関した物理学の理論的研究を行う。

  2. ナノ電気力学系としてのカーボンナノチューブ量子ドットの理論的研究

    両端に電極を付した伝導素子としてのカーボンナノチューブ、カーボンナノチューブ量子ドット、が本研究の対象である。最近作成されている架橋ナノチューブはナノ電気力学系として期待されている。ナノ電気力学系としてのナノチューブ量子ドットの性質を理論的に調べることが本研究の目的である。 ナノチューブ量子ドットにおいては電子相関が重要である。また微細加工により積極的に系を操作できる点が特徴である。これらの性質は微細加工系としてのナノチューブにおいて特に重要であるが理論的取り扱いは容易ではない。しかし、私のこれまでの研究経験を生かすことで本研究の遂行が可能であると考えている。 ナノチューブ内の多体現象として、朝永ラッティンジャー流体、クーロンブロッケード、近藤効果、超伝導など様々な報告がされている。それら多体現象がゲート電圧印加や架橋構造によってどのように現れるのか、またどのように制御されるのかが本研究により明らかになると予想される。さらには、ナノチューブの次世代エレクトロニクス基本素子への活用に対する指針を与える可能性がある。

Advances in lithographic approaches have openend the possibility to fabricate freestanding objects in silicon and other materials with thickness and lateral dimensions down to a few tenths of nanometers. At such small dimensions, NEMS are expected to exhibit novel physical properties, which require thorough theoretical investigation. We consider a freely suspended SWNT clamped at both ends by electrodes that act as tunnelling junctions and capacitively coupled to a gate. A gate voltage exerts a force on the nanotube, which bends in order to reduce the electrostatic energy but at the cost of the elastic energy. Novel Coulom Blockade features have been predicted. We currently investigate transport properties of these nanomechanical resonantors also in the presence of Luttinger correlations.
