    Oligonitrenes representing the various unit structures in poly[m-(nitrenophenylene)ethynylenes] (1) were prepared and studied by means of EPR and magnetization measurements which support our hypothesis that 1 will have a superhigh-spin ground state.

    The trivalent phosphorus atoms bearing bulky aryl groups have high p-character arising from the structural change around the phosphorus and sterically protected environment. In this project, diaryphosphine moieties bearing bulky aryl groups are employed as key structures for the phosphorus analogs of polyaniline to improve instability of the phosphine moieties and lack of the effective π-conjugation due to low p-character of the phosphorus atom, and synthetic studies on the substructures and polymers were carried out. Diarylphosphines substituted by 2,6-disubstituted aryl group and various 4-bromoaryl groups were synthesized by the nucleophilic substitution of the corresponding dichlorophosphine followed by the reduction. 4-Bromophenylphosphines bearing bulky alkyl or aryl groups at 2,6-positions were synthesized by the reduction of the corresponding dichlorophosphines or diethyl phosphonates prepared from bromoiodobenzene derivatives, and reactivities were studied.

    Sterically crowded triarylphosphines bearing functional sites, especially electron acceptors, were synthesized as model compounds of the functional materials, and were revealed to exhibit properties typical of triarylphosphines such as fluorescence with large Stokes shift as well as those inherent to π-conjugated systems. Synthesis, structure, properties, and reactivities of sterically crowded triarylphosphines, arsines, stibines, and their derivatives such as oxides, onium salts, and radical cations were investigated. Influence of the steric crowding on the structure and properties is largest for three-coordinated trivalent compounds.

    ビス(ジエトキシホスホリル)アセチレンとそれぞれ硫化水素ナトリウム、或いはセレン化水素ナトリウムとの反応により得られるテトラホスホリルジヒドロチオフェン及びセレノフェン、更にこれらをmCPBA酸化することにより得られるテトラホスホリルチオフェン及びセレノフェンをブロモトリメチルシランによりシリルエステルとし加水分解することにより対応する一連のテトラホスホン酸を合成した。特にこれらの中でチオフェンテトラホスホン酸に着目し、種々の反応を検討した。まず、チオフェン環やホスホン酸を経由した磁気的相互作用を期待し、硫酸銅(II)との反応による銅(II)錯体の合成を検討したところチオフェンテトラホスホン酸と銅(II)が1:3である塩が得られ、磁化率測定から銅(II)間には反強磁性的相互作用が見られた。また、生体の構成要素である骨や歯を模倣した材料の開拓を目的としてチオフェンテトラホスホン酸と塩化カルシウムとの反応によるホスホン酸カルシウム塩の合成を検討し、チオフェンテトラホスホン酸とカルシウムが1:2である塩を単離した。これらホスホン酸塩の合成では溶液の酸性度により種々の組成比の塩の合成が可能であり今後多様な塩の合成や新規材料への展開が期待できる。一方、ホスホン酸分子内無水物の生成を期待してDCCによる脱水を試みたがこれに関しては分子間脱水に由来すると考えられる難溶性白色固体の生成にとどまった。また、テトラキス(ジエトキシホスホリル)チオフェンを硝酸二アンモニウムセリウム(IV)と反応させたところ対応するチオフェンオキシド類ではなくCe(III)にテトラホスホリルチオフェンがbisbidentate ligandとして配位した配位高分子であると考えられる1:1錯体が得られた。

    Linear and dendritic crowded triarylphosphine-quinone oligomers (Mw ca. 3500), carrying 2,5-diaryl-1,4-benzoquinone or 1,4-naphthoquinone as a quinone moiety, were synthesized by using Suzuki-Miyaura coupling as key reaction, and relation of intramolecular charge transfer and redox properties was investigated. The oligomers were isolated as purple to blue stable solid and the corresponding intramolecular charge transfer absorption red-shifted as the difference between oxidation potential of phosphine moieties and reduction potential of quinone moieties decreased. The structure of the oligomers was strongly supported by ESI-MS and 31P NMR spectra, which reflect distribution of diastereomers arising from helicity of the propellers composed of three aromtic rings on the phosphorus atom. Introduction of a phenylene spacer between triarylphosphine and quinone and employment of naphthoquinones as quinone moieties lead to disappearance of the charge transfer band and protonation on the phosphorus works as reversible switching of the charge transfer. In addition to construction of the gigantic triarylphosphine-quinone oligomers, fundamental research on crowded triarylphosphine and some model systems were carried out. Redox properties of the crowded triarylphosphines carrying ferrocenes, triarylamines, or nitroxides, mixed valency of the crowded triarylphosphine analog of TPD, or the diaminobiphenyl known as a hole transport material for electroluminescence devices, and magnetic properties of a cation radical of the crowded triarylphosphine were revealed. Originated from exploratory research on development of inherent function of heavier main group elements by controlling flexible structure and electronic state, we constructed model systems comparable to well-known functional molecules and developed novel highly-functional gigantic molecules.

    Crowded triarylphosphines of advanced properties were developed. One of the most crowded triarylphosphines, tris(2,4,6-tricyclohexylphenyl)phosphine was synthesized and the corresponding cation radical was prepared by oxidation with nitrosonium salts and isolated as purple crystals for the first time as a cation radical of triarylphosphine. X-ray crystallography revealed planar structure of phosphorus and anisotropic hfc constants were obtained from angular dependence of EPR spectra of a single crystal. Several crowded triarylphosphines carrying various aryl groups such as 2,6-dialkylphenyl, 2,6-diarylphenyl, and 2-alkyl-6-arylphenyl groups were synthesized and detailed structure, dynamic stereochemistry, especially inversion barrier of the phosphine and interconversion of isomers arising from helicity of propeller composed of three aromatic rings attached to the phosphorus atom. Intramolecular interaction between the crowded triarylphosphine moiety and the other functional site was also investigated. Several triarylphosphines carrying a donar or an acceptor at the 4-position to the phosphorus were synthesized and the substituent effects on electronic spectra were studied. Electron withdrawing groups such as a formyl group were found to cause red shift of the longest absorption wavelength to give orange to red colored phosphines. Crowded triarylphosphines carrying quinones were synthesized by Suzuki coupling and relation between redox properties and intramolecular charge transfer was systematically clarified. (4-Bromo-2,6-dicyclohexylphenyl)bis(2,4,6-tricyclohexylphenyl)phosphine was developed as a key synthetic intermediate for crowded triarylphosphines which can be oxidized to isolable cation radicals as well as possess functional sites. Diphosphines carrying the two crowded triarylphosphine moieties connected by biphenyl, azo, and nitroxyl linkage were synthesized.

    立体保護されたホスファキノイド、ホスファチエノキノイド、及びチオキノイド化合物について以下の検討を行った。 2,4,6-トリ-t-ブチルフェニル基により立体保護されたジホスファキノン及びジホスファチエノキノンの一般的な合成法を開発し、3,4-ジブロモジホスファチエノキノンを(Z,Z)-単体一の異性体として合成、単離し、NMR、X線結晶構造解析により、通常のヘテロキノイド化合物と類似した構造を有することを明らかにした。更に、ジホスファチエノキノン、エキソメチレン炭素を^<13>Cラベルしたホスファキノメタン及びホスファチエノキノメタンに対応するアニオンラジカルの構造を、EPRスペクトルにおける、それぞれ2つの^<31>P原子、^<31>P及び^<13>C原子との超微細結合により詳細に検討し、いずれも2段階の酸化還元系であるが、ジホスファチエノキノンがホスファキノンと同様に、低い第一還元電位、大きな第一及び第二還元電位の差を有し、一方のリン原子上に不対電子が局在化したアニオンラジカルを与えるのに対し、ホスファキノメタン及びホスファチエノキノメタンが高い第一還元電位を有する一方で小さな還元電位差を有し、不対電子がπ共役系全体に非局在化したアニオンラジカルを与えることを明らかにした。すなわち、ホスファキノイド及びホスファチエノキノイド化合物は通常の低周期元素の場合と同様のキノイド及びヘテロキノイド構造を有するが、酸化還元的性質に関しては2通りの場合があることが分かった。 チオキノイド化合物に関しては単離には至らなかったが、立体保護されたチオフェノール骨格である3,5-ビス(2,4,6-トリイソプロピルフェニル)-4-メルカプトフェニル基を有する一連のπ共役系骨格の構築法を確立し、対応するチオベンゾキノメタン、チオ及びジチオビフェノキノン、チオガルビノキシル等の前駆体を合成し、その反応性を検討した。

    平成6年度は、まず、高スピンポリ(アミニウムラジカルカチオン)の前駆体であるトリアリールアミン類を合成した。すなわち、ピリジン中での銅アミドとヨウ化アリールとのカップリングを用いて、メタ位で連結したトリアリールアミン類の合成を行い、パラ位にt-ブチル基を有する一連のモノ、ジ、トリ、ペンタアミンの合成を完成させた。さらにラジカルカチオンを電子的に安定化させるために、パラ位にメトキシ基を導入したモノ、ジ、トリアミンを合成した。サイクリックボルタンメトリー、ESR、UV-VISスペクトルを用いて対応するアミニウムラジカルカチオンへの酸化について検討したところ、これらのジ、トリ、ペンタアミンは、メタ位でつなげていった場合、室温で安定なラジカルカチオンを与えるのはジアミンまでであり、トリ、ペンタアミンではジ(アミニウムラジカルカチオン)への酸化以降、複雑な副反応を伴い、分解物としてモノ(アミニウムラジカルカチオン)を与えることがわかった。ジアミンに関しては、他のアミニウムラジカルを酸化剤とすることにより、ジ(ラジカルカチオン)を得、低温でのESRスペクトルからD=12.5mT程であることがわかった。上記アミニウムラジカルカチオンの不安定性はオルト位でのカップリングによるものと考え、ジメシチルアミン及びビス(2,4,6-トリクロロフェニル)アミンより導かれる銅アミドとと1,3,5-トリヨードベンゼンのカップリングを試みたが、期待したトリアミンは得られなかった。そこで、より立体障害が少なくポリ(アミニウムラジカルカチオン)の安定化の条件を満たすと考えられる系の構築を目指して、6,6'-ジクロロ-2,2'-イミノジベンジルを用いて同様の反応を行なったところ、期待したトリアミンが得られた。現在、このトリアミンの酸化を検討中である。

    C_<60>はドナーおよびアクセプターとして作用することが可能であり、特にそのアクセプターとしての性質は、ラジカルアニオンの磁性および伝導性などの物性との関連から非常に興味深いものである。本研究では、C_<60>のこのような性質を明らかにする目的でC_<60>に直接ドナーおよびアクセプターが結合した分子を合成し、それらにおける分子内相互作用について調べた。 (1)C_<60>にP-ベンゾキノンの結合した系の合成と物性 P-ベンゾキノンは代表的な有機酸化還元系として知られているアクセプターである。そこで、P-ベンゾキノンがC_<60>に結合した化合物を合成して、その酸化還元系としての性質を調べたところ、この両者が相互作用した新しい酸化還元系が出来ることがわかった。また、金属カリウムを用いて還元した化合物のESRスペクトルは興味深い挙動を示した。 (2)C_<60>にシクロペンタジエニル-シクロブタジエンコバルト(I)錯体が結合した系の合成と物性。 標題化合物はC_<60>にドナーのコバルト錯体が結合した系である。合成はC_<60>とコバルト錯体の熱反応によって行った。この錯体の酸化還元電位を調べたところ、コバルト錯体部分が酸化に対して非常に不安定になることがわかった。

    電子移動反応によってC_<60>のアニオンラジカルを生じる経路は非常に容易であり、いくつかの例が知られている。しかしながら、電子移動によってC_<60>のカチオンラジカルを生成する反応は、C_<60>の酸化電から考えてかなり起こり難いと予想され、これまでにこのような反応を合成に用いた例は全くない。我々はこれまでにフルオロアルキル基の置換した過酸無水物が容易に電子移動を起こして、芳香族化合物のカチオンラジカルとフルオロアルキルラジカルおよびフルオロアルキルカルボン酸アニオンになり、さらに反応して芳香族化合物のフルオロアルキル化体を収率良く与えることを見出している。そこで、この反応をフラーレンのフルオロアルキル化に適用したところ、C_<60>のカチオンラジカルを経由した生成物であるフルオロアルキルヒドロキシフラーレンを得た。また、この反応では、C_<60>と過酸無水物がイオン反応を起こしたと予想されるジオール誘導体およびラジカル反応を起こしたと予想されるフルオロアルキル化されたC_<60>二量体をも得た。生成物の構造は、各種スペクトルデータから決定したが、フルオロアルキルヒドロキシフラーレンおよびフルオロアルキル化されたC_<60>二量体に関しては、それぞれをトリブチルスズヒドリドで還元し、両者から同じフルオロアルキル化フラーレンが生成することによってもその構造を確認した。

    In order to create the compounds which have both conductivity and ferromagnetic properties, we designed the donor systems bearing TTF- or ferrocene-unit at the 1,3-or 1,3,5-positions of aromatic rings. The donor molecules with TTF-units have been synthesized using the palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction of tetrathiafulvalenyltin with halogenated benzene derivatives. The dication diradicals and trication triradicals prepared from the TTF-donors show conductivity like a semi-conductor. However, these radical salts indicate almost no ferromagnetic interaction between radical centers. The donor molecules with ferrocene-units have been synthesized by the palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction of ferrocenylzinc reagent with halogenated benzene derivatives. This reaction easily produces the products in a one-pot procedure. The dication diradical or trication triradical salts of the ferrocenedonor show some interaction of ferrocenyl irons. However, the conductivity measurements of this system indicate that the radical salts are a insulator.
