Abstract In order to understand the formation and evolution of galaxies fully, it is important to study their three-dimensional gravitational potential for a large sample of galaxies. Since polar-ring galaxies (PRGs) provide useful laboratories for this investigation, we have started our detailed study of a sample of known PRGs by using the data set obtained by the Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program (HSC-SSP). During the course of this study, we have discovered a new PRG, identified as SDSS J095351.58+012036.1. Its photometric redshift is estimated as z ∼ 0.2. The polar ring structure in this PRG appears to be almost perpendicular to the disk of its host galaxy without any disturbed features. Therefore, this PRG will provide us with useful information on the formation of such an undisturbed polar structure. We discuss its photometric properties in detail.

Abstract
We present our ALMA Band 8 observations of a damped Ly$\alpha$ absorption (DLA) system at $z = 3.150$ observed in the spectrum of the quasar Q2233+131 at $z = 3.295$. The optical counterpart of this DLA has been identified and it shows a double-peaked Ly$\alpha$ emission line. Since one possible origin of DLAs at high redshift is an outflowing gas from star-forming galaxies, DLA 2233+131 provides a good laboratory to investigate the nature of high-z DLAs. Motivated by this, we have carried out ALMA band 8 observations to study the [C ii] line in this system. However, we do not detect any significant emission line in the observed pass bands. Instead, we have serendipitously found three submm continuum sources in the observed sky area. One appears to be the quasar Q2233+131 itself while the other two sources are newly identified submm galaxies (SMGs), called SMG1 and SMG2 in this paper. They are located at a separation of ${4{^{\prime \prime }_{. } }7}$ and ${8{^{\prime \prime }_{. } }1}$ from Q2233+131, respectively. Their 646 μm fluxes are $6.35\:$mJy and $6.43\:$mJy, respectively, being higher than that of Q2233+131, $3.62\:$mJy. Since these two SMGs are not detected in the optical images obtained with the Hubble Space Telescope and the Subaru Telescope, they have a very red spectral energy distribution. It is, therefore, suggested that they are high-redshift galaxies or very dusty galaxies at intermediate redshift, although we cannot rule out the possibility that they are optically very faint SMG analogs at low redshift. Follow-up observations will be necessary to explore the nature of this interesting region.

In order to investigate both the dark age and the cosmic reionization in early universe, we aim to observe very young galaxies and active galactic nuclei at redshift z > 8 by using highly-redshifted hydrogen Lyman alpha emission. For this purpose, our team has been developing a new near infrared imager and spectrograph for the 8.2 m Subaru Telescope; MOIRCS = Multi Object Infrared Camera and Spectrograph. This instrument has been already completed and opened for open use observations. MOIRCS has a wide field of view, 4 arcmin x 7 arcmin. This is the widest IR camera for such 8m class telescopes so far. Taking account of very high image quality of the Subaru Telescope, MOIRCS must be the most powerful and efficient IR instrument around the world. In order to detect highly redshifted hydrogen Lyman alpha emission, we have made new NIR narrowband filters from 1.1 micron to 2.3 micron. These narrowband filters allow us to detect Lyman alpha emitters from z = 9 to 18. The most distant know Lyman alpha emitter is located at z = 6.96. This object was found by a narrowband filter survey in the optical window. The presence of such very young galaxies encourage us to make deep surveys for Lyman alpha emitters beyond z = 7. Our target fields are GOODS-North and GOODS-South (GOODS = Great Observatories Origins Deep Survey promoted by Hubble Space Telescope and NASA). These two fields have been imaged with the Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) on Hubble Space Telescope. Moreover, follow-up observations by many large telescope facilities at various wavelengths have been already made by now The Hubble Ultra Deep Field is also located in GOODS-South. Therefore, these fields are most promising fields for any NIR deep survey programs. We have already obtained very deep NIR broadband images of GOODS-North. We have also obtained optical multi-band filter images in GOODS-South. In the GOODS-South, very deep NIR images obtained with ISAAC on the 8.2m Very Large Telescope in Chile. Therefore, we are ready to make very deep imaging surveys with our new NIR narrowband filters with MOIRCS on the Subaru Telescope. Since the MOIRCS was ready for use since 2006, but many technical test observations were necessary to check the total performance. Therefore, we did not have any observing time to use our new NIR narrowband filters by this March. We are planning to use our new filters in the coming observation semester on the Subaru Telescope. Since MOIRCS is still the greatest NIR instrument, we hope that we will be able to find very high-redshift Lyman alpha emitters beyond z = 7 in near future.

We have performed our 7 micron deep survey program made with Infrared Space Observatory (ISO) , the infrared camera of ISO (ISOCAM). We have found 15 sources above a 5 sigma_<rms> significance in a small selected area (3'x3') in the lockman HI hole. Among the 15 sources 14 objects have also been observed in the near infrared (NIR : -2 micron) . The majority of the 7 micron sources have NIR counterparts most of which are considered to be galaxies with intermediate redshifts. It is, however, infriguing that a few 7 micron sources have no NIR counterparts. There objects may be heavily reddened populations which have not been detected by existing optical and NIR deep surveys.
