    More details Close

The J-PARC Hadron Experimental Facility was constructed with an aim to explore the origin and evolution of matter in the universe through experiments with intense particle beams. In the past decade, many results from particle and nuclear physics experiments have been obtained at the present facility. To expand the physics programs to as yet unexplored regions, the extension project of the Hadron Experimental Facility has been extensively discussed. This contribution presents the physics of the extension of the Hadron Experimental Facility to resolve issues related to strangeness nuclear physics, hadron physics, and flavor physics.

The precise four-body calculations for ^4_ΛHe and ^4_ΛH have been performed in the frame-work of the variational method with Jacobian-coordinate Gaussian-basis functions. All the rearrangement channel of both NNNA and NNNΣ are explicitly taken into account for the first time with the use of realistic NN and YN interactions. The role of Λ-Σ conversion and the amount of the virtual Σ-component in ^4_ΛHe and ^4_ΛH are discussed.

Gaussian expansion method that has been proposed and developed by the authors is reviewed. The method takes all the sets of rearrangement Jacobi coordinates and constructs the few-body Gaussian basis functions on the coordinates, setting the Gaussian ranges to lie in geometric progression. The method is suited for describing both the short-range correlations and long-range tail behavior, and has extensively been applied to various types of few-body problems in physics including both bound states and scattering states.

With the use of various realistic two-nucleon forces between the valence neutrons, three-body structure of ^6He=^4He+n+n and the short-range correlations between the halo neutrons are investigated. Use is made of the coupled-rearrangement-channel variational method with the Gaussian basis functions. The basis functions are composed of newly developed Gaussian lobe functions with infinitesimally shift parameter. Usefulness of the method is examined in the three-nucleon bound-state calculation with those realistic forces such as Paris, Bonn and Argonne potentials.

Abstract: The workshop provides an interdisciplinary setting to discuss recent advances and challenges for physicists working on a wide range of systems, ranging from quarks and hadrons to cold atoms and molecules. Universality is now recognized as a common feature of strongly interacting quantum systems, independent of the details of the interaction at short distances. It is expected to provide a basis for the solution of many quantum phenomena in few- and many-body systems. We will discuss individual problems in the different research areas from the universal point of view such as Efimov physics and weakly-bound states, resonances, and BEC-BCS crossover. We also discuss correlations and emergent phenomena such as the formation of clusters in many-body systems.

Recently, we observed a \Xi hypernuclues, called as Kiso event, to have a bound state for the first time. From this data, we found that \Xi N interaction should be attractive. In this conference, we discuss that what kind of \Xi N interaction should be obtained from the data and in the future what kinds of \Xi hypernuclei we should have at J-PARC facility.

In order to produce and record about 1,000 events of Double Hypernuclei (DH) in 1,000 sheets made from about 2 tons of nuclear emulsion, beam exposure was performed at J-PARC in Tokai, and all sheets were developed for half a year. We have followed tracks of the Xi particle, which were the source of the DH production tagged with a semiconductor detector, in the sheets using the microscope to detect the DH, efficiently. Nearly 2,000 Xi particles have been found to be at-rest captured by the nuclei composing the sheet. Among them, we achieved 34 events of the DH, which was four times as many as the number of DH taken by the past experiments. In particular, we have succeeded in discovering the structure of the energy level of the Xi particle in the DH, for the case of the absorption of the Xi particle by the nitrogen nucleus.

In detail, we focused on NNΞ and NNNΞ three- and four-body systems which has never been observed. As for ΞN interaction, we employed ΞN potential with basis on Lattice QCD,which is one of ab-initio calculation. As a result, there was no bound state for NNΞ three-body system. On the other hand,we had a bound state for NNNΞ four-body system. We propose to perform heavy ion reaction to observe it. We published pupress release in March in 2020.

The main aim of this project is to investigate the existence of charm-hyperuclei as a bound state, which is composed of charm baryon and nuclei and to construct the interaction between charm baryon and nucleon by the study of structure of charm-hypernuclei. For this purpose, we constructed charm baryon-nucleon interaction from view point of one-boson exchange model. The constructed interaction is included ΛcN-ΣcN-Σc*N coupling. With the use of this interaction, we pointed out to have a bound state with A=4 charm hypernucleus by solving a couple channel calculation of NNNΛc-NNNΣc four-body problem.

Fully automated systems were successfully built for following Xi- particles and for whole-area scanning to detect double-hypernuclei in nuclear emulsion with speed in several hundreds’ faster than the past one. The later system gave us an evidence for the presence of Xi-hypernucleus (named KISO Event), for the first time in the world, in the emulsion of the previous experiment, and then we found that an attractive nuclear-force would play between Xi- particle and nucleus. In preparation of the E07 experiment at J-PARC, we made emulsion plates of 2.1 ton Gel and stocked them in the KAMIOKA mine, and it was achieved for driving solid-state tracking detector, X-ray detector (Hyperball-X) and detectors along the beam line. Therefore our experiment is recommended to run beam exposure in 2016 with the top priority. In theoretical research, it was pointed out that repulsive-force effect of p-wave on the Lambda-Lambda interaction had a great influence on the maximum mass of the neutron star.

By measuring the g-factor of a Λ particle in a nucleus via B(M1) values of spin-flip γ-transitions of hypernuclei using hypernuclear γ-ray spectroscopy, we study possible nuclear medium effects of baryons. For this purpose, we have prepared for the J-PARC E13 experiment; we developed, manufactured, installed, and tested a germanium detector array, Hypernball-J, and various detectors for the K1.8/SKS magnetic spectrometers. A new high-rate readout method of Ge detctors has been also developed. The whole apparatus has been tested with an actual K- beam at K1.8 beam line and found to have good performance. In addition, new data for the (K-,π-) reaction cross sections were also obtained. Unfortunately, due to an accident at the J-PARC facility in May of 2013, our beam time postponed for almost 2 years and we were not able to take physics data by the end of FY2014. However, we will be able to obtain physics results for 19ΛF hypernucleus immediately after beam recovery in April 2015.

To derive the nuclear force from first principle lattice quantum chromo dynamics (QCD) simulations, HAL QCD method was developed and established. The equation of state for asymmetric nuclear matter at finite temperature, which is the key input for describing the supernova explosion, was derived on the basis of the cluster variational method. Also, a reduction formula for the Wilson-fermion determinant necessary to study the phase structure of dense QCD was derived. The Gaussian expansion method for quantum few-body calculation was extended to five-body systems with arbitrary two-body interactions. The Monte Carlo shell model, which is powerful method to study the nuclear Hamiltonian with large dimension, was further developed by improving the numerical argorithm and by introducing a new extrapolation method on the basis of the energy variance. A new code of time-dependent density functional theory with particle paring was developed: It lead to a few orders of magnitude numerical speed-up and was applied to study various nuclear collective motions.

[1] Theoretical prediction of B(E2) in hypemuclei. We calculated B(E2: 5/2^+_1 → 1/^+_1) in ^7_λLi and B(E2: 3^+_1→1^+_1) of the core nucleus ^6_λLi. From their comparison, we predicted that size of ^7_λLi is shrunk by 21% from the core nucleus. KEK-E419 experiment verified this prediction. [2] YN spin-orbit force and the level structure of ^9_λBe and ^13_λ3C. With the use of the two kinds of YN interactions we calculated energy splitting in the spin orbit doublet in ^9_λBe and ^13_λ3C. The quark-model-based interaction gave very small splitting, where as the meson-theory- based interaction gave substantially large splitting. Experiments at BNL reported a small splitting which agrees with the former case of our prediction. [3] Four-body study of ^4_λH and ^4_λHe. We performed, for the first time, four-body calculation of ^4_λH and ^4_λHe with the explicit use of the (3Ν+Λ) and (3Ν+Σ) channel. The ΛΝ-Σ coupling is treated accurately. We were able to explain the level structure of the hypemuclei and estimated the probability of the (3Ν+Σ) channel. It is 2% in the 0^+ state and 1% in the 1^+ state, but plays important role in making the states bound. [4] Spectroscopy of the double-Λ hypemuclei. We predicted the energy levels of the A=7-10 double-Λ hypemuclei with the use of the α+χ+Λ+Λ four-body model with χ= n,p,t,^3He,α. Our prediction for 2^+ state of ^<10>_<ΛΛ>Be was recently verified by the DEMACHI-YANAGI event in the KEK-E373 experiment.
