    Abstract We investigated the formation process of Sn-based 2D organic–inorganic layered hybrid materials from sequentially vacuum-deposited bilayer thin films of CH3(CH2)11NH3I (DDAI) and SnI2 by post-annealing. DDA2SnI4 or DDASnI3 was selectively formed depending on the DDAI/ SnI2 molar ratio and the annealing temperature. It was revealed that DDASnI3 is formed via the phase transformation of DDA2SnI4 that has been formed at a low temperature from a SnI2-rich bilayer thin film by a temperature increase.

    Abstract We have demonstrated the growth of CsBH4 (001) epitaxial thin films utilizing an IR laser deposition technique. The thin film exhibited coherent growth with a tensile strain from the substrate, resulting in its crystallinity superior to other kinds of metal borohydride thin films reported in earlier studies. Moreover, the notable chemical stability of CsBH4 enabled surface morphological and optical characterizations even under atmospheric conditions. The optical transition energy values estimated from a Tauc plot were found smaller than the theoretical ones previously reported, and DFT calculations suggested a partial deficiency of Cs+ or [BH4] created in the thin films.

    Abstract In this work, heteroepitaxial growth of copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) on a large single-grain of thin film N,N’-Di-n-octyl-3,4,9,10-perylenetetracarboxylic diimide (PTCDI-C8) was investigated. Vacuum-deposited PTCDI-C8 thin films at a growth temperature of ∼180 °C exhibited large grain growth of several hundred micrometers or more in size, and their surface consisted of stripe islands with molecular steps. CuPc deposited at 180 °C on this PTCDI-C8 large grain underlayer was found to grow epitaxially with its needle-like crystals dominantly oriented in one unique direction. The mechanism of the observed epitaxy is discussed based on the results of in-plane X-ray diffraction and the initial growth morphology.

    We report the preparation of thin films of 1-ethyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)amide ([C2mpyr][TFSA]), which is among organic ionic plastic crystals, using an ionic liquid (IL) -assisted vacuum deposition method. 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)amide ([C2mim][TFSA]), a well-known IL, was used as a solvent to assist the crystal growth. The effect of the IL on the growth morphology and crystal orientation of the thin films was investigated. It was found that the IL-assisted growth resulted in the preferential growth of (100)-oriented [C2mpyr][TFSA] crystallites, whose morphology depended on the deposition temperature and the presence of IL. Growth models for [C2mpyr][TFSA] thin films under different growth conditions are proposed and discussed.

    Ho monopnictides (Ho Pn: Pn = N, P, As, Sb, and Bi) and monochalcogenides (Ho Ch: Ch = S, Se, and Te) are known to possess a nontrivial magnetic structure, while solid-phase HoO has not been synthesized yet. In this study, a rock salt-type HoO epitaxial thin film was grown by using the pulsed laser deposition method, which had a bandgap of 0.11 eV and tunable electrical conduction via its oxygen nonstoichiometry. Its Curie temperature, above 130 K, was much higher than those of Ho Pn and Ho Ch, most likely due to an enhanced direct exchange interaction. Similar to Ho Pn and Ho Ch, a HoO thin film showed a metamagnetic behavior below the Curie temperature in spite of its dominant ferromagentic ordering.

    We have synthesized PrO epitaxial thin films using the pulsed laser deposition method and evaluated the electrical and magnetic properties at the ultra-low temperatures where the Kondo effect becomes remarkable. PrO showed the Kondo effect below 6 K where the electrical resistivity becomes the minimum. At 10 K and above, the behaviors of magnetization and the anomalous Hall resistivity were corresponding with each other, but in the ultra-low temperatures, the anomalous Hall resistivity showed large residual components and coercive fields in contrast to the magnetization. This is considered to indicate the rearrangement of magnetization due to the competition of magnetic interactions.

    High quality PrO epitaxial thin films were synthesized for the first time using pulsed laser deposition, and their magnetic and electrical properties were evaluated. PrO exhibited ferromagnetic behavior in field cooling (FC) below 30 K, and the spontaneous magnetization at 2 K was estimated to be about 0.03 μB/f.u. On the other hand, electric conduction shows metallic behavior, and the anomalous Hall effect with hysteresis was observed below 20 K. PrO has a possibility to be an itinerant ferromagnet with near-zero spontaneous magnetization at the Curie temperature of about 30 K.

    In the previous meeting, we reported observation of spin Hall magnetoresistance (SMR) in a rock-salt type LaO/EuO heteroepitaxial thin film with clean and sharp interface using EuO, a ferromagnetic insulator with Curie temperature of 69 K, as the bottom layer. This is the first report on SMR in oxide heterostructure. Here, we report the spin parameters of LaO derived from the LaO layer thickness dependence of SMR in LaO/EuO.

    本研究では室温強磁性体である重元素ドープペロブスカイト型マンガン酸化物薄膜をベースに、研究代表者考案の、スピントロニクス分野と傾斜組成薄膜の融合研究である“グラデーションスピントロニクス”という新分野創製を目的とする。研究代表者所属の研究室が独自開発した世界唯一のガルバノミラー走査型パルスレーザ堆積装置でナノ傾斜組成エピタキシャル薄膜を作製し、SQUID測定・偏極中性子反射率測定・強磁性共鳴測定を組合わせることで傾斜組成構造が磁気・スピン特性に及ぼす影響を明らかにする。

    A superconducting spin valve (SSV) device, in which a superconductor is sandwiched between two ferromagnetic insulators in the upper and lower layers, is a post-Moore technology that performs zero-resistance switching by controlling the parallel and antiparallel spin states of the ferromagnetic layers. In this study, we aimed to fabricate EuO/LaO/EuO SSV devices with coherent and steep junction interfaces with aligned crystallographic orientation by epitaxy technique to combine the ferromagnetic insulator EuO, a rare earth single oxide with the same rock salt structure as the new superconductor LaO, which was discovered by the principal investigator in 2018. Although the SSV devices could not be completed due to the transfer during the research period and the long interruption of experiments due to the Corona disaster, we discovered an electrochemical insitu characterization method for the semiconductor properties of EuO thin films in the course of the research.
