    Abstract As the production of high-quality titanium (Ti) metal increases significantly, the generation of low-quality Ti scraps increases and exceeds the demand for current cascade recycling in ferrous metallurgy. Therefore, the development of an upgrading recycling technology, in which scraps are refined and reutilized, is required. The magnesium (Mg) deoxidation assisted by the formation of oxychlorides of rare earth metals is currently considered a promising process for upgrading recycling technology, during which YOCl is formed as a byproduct. In this study, we investigate the synthesis and separation of YCl3 from YOCl via carbochlorination at 973 and 1073 K and confirmed that YCl3 can be regenerated from YOCl at a high conversion rate (82.7 pct at maximum). YCl3 was also formed even in the presence of MgCl2; however, MgCl2 decreased the conversion rate (49.8 pct at minimum). The conversion rate in the temperature region where YCl3 is a liquid (1073 K) was lower than that in the temperature region where YCl3 is a solid (973 K). Therefore, an operation with temperature cycling, in which YCl3 is formed at a temperature where YCl3 is a solid and then the temperature is increased to a temperature where YCl3 is a liquid to drain the molten mixed salt, is efficient.

    Synthesis of a compact, uniform and thick carbon film on nickel substrate were conducted by electrochemical reduction of carbonate ions in LiCl-Li2CO3 molten salt. It was found that the carbon is consistently formed into structure of wire and sphere particle. The uniformity and compactness of the carbon film were found to be dependent on the applied current density, electricity, and the electrolysis method. At lower current densities, the carbon tended to grow locally, resulting in larger-sized wires and particles. At higher current density, a relatively uniform and thin carbon film can be synthesized at the beginning but soon changed to a cluster-like structure. The contradiction between current density and carbonate ions‘ diffusion limit make it is impossible to obtain a compact and uniform film by using constant current electrolysis. By applying pulsed current electrolysis with an average current density of 10 mA cm−2 and a peak current density of 200 mA cm−2, a compact and uniform carbon film with a thickness of approximately 10 μm was successfully prepared.

    The production of molybdenum (Mo) and tungsten (W) utilizes ultra-high temperatures, resulting in high production costs. If Mo and W plates can be directly produced at relatively low temperatures, drastic cost reduction and energy savings are expected. It is known that molten fluoride-oxide electrolytes containing boron oxides exhibit good adhesion to substrates and provide the smoothest surface; however, the role of boron oxides is unclear. Therefore, in this study, the effect of K2B4O7 on the electrodeposition of Mo and W in molten LiF−KF−KCl−K2MO4 (M=Mo, W) at 1223 K was investigated. The apparent current efficiency for Mo and W deposition decreased drastically with increasing cathode current density in the absence of K2B4O7 addition. In Mo deposition, the apparent current efficiency reached approximately 100% with the addition of 0.1 mol% K2B4O7. In W deposition, the apparent current efficiency reached approximately 100% with the addition of 5 mol% K2B4O7. The electrodeposited films comprised columnar crystals growing from the cathode to the electrolyte, and the Mo and W films contained 0.46 mol% of B and 0.10 mol% B, respectively. It was concluded that the morphology of deposits changed from particle/dendritic crystal to flat film crystal with the addition of K2B4O7.

    Viscosities of Li2CO3-Na2CO3 and Li2CO3-K2CO3 binary melts, which are assumed as the electrolytes of molten carbonate fuel cell, have been measured in entire composition range. A gas injection system was introduced and the torsion wire replaced with thick one to obtain the reliable viscosity of carbonate melts. lsothermal viscosities showed downward convex curves in entire composition range for both melts. Highest viscosity was found for Li2CO3 and minimum values were found at 70∼80mol% of Na3CO3 and K2CO3 for higher temperatures. The activation energies for both melts decreased monotonously with increasing Na2CO3 and K2CO3, Therefore, it is considered that these melts are simple mixture and the decrease of viscosity is due to volume expansion by mixing. The viscosity at the working temperature of molten carbonate fuel cell, about 923K, is 7∼9mPa·s.

    The density and ultrasonic velocity of NaNO3-MNO3 (M: Li, K, Rb and Cs) binary melts have been measured by means of the manometric method and the pulse transmission method with precisions of ±0.2% and ±0.1%, respectively. The molar volume, isentropic and isothermal compressibilities have been determined from the experimental results. The molar volumes of NaNO3-LiNO3, NaNO3-KNO3 and NaNO3-RbNO3 binary melts show almost additive value, while that of NaNO3-CsNO3 binary melts deviates positively from the additivity. Both the isentropic and isothermal compressibilities of the binary melts deviate positively from the additivity by 1-2%. It has been concluded that the mixing of NaNO3 and MNO3 causes slight deviation from the ideal behavior in molar volume and compressibility.

    The ultrasonic absorption coefficient, α in NaNO3-MNO3 (M: Li, K, Rb, Cs) binary melts has been measured by means of the pulse transmission method in the frequency range of 15-65MHz with the precisions of 5%. The values of αf-2 showed no frequency dependence for all binary melts. The bulk viscosity of binary melts determined from the absorption coefficient shows the negative temperature dependence. The bulk viscosities of NaNO3-KNO3, NaNO3-RbNO3 and NaNO3-KNO3 binary melts decrease steeply with increasing NaNO3 content at MNO3 (M: K, Rb and Cs) rich sides. A calculation based on the relaxation theory has been applied for bulk viscosity of the binary melts. The bulk viscosity of the mixture was calculated by using the values of isentropic compressibilities and bulk viscosities of the component salts. The calculated values agreed well with the experimental values. It has been concluded that the structural rearrangement in the binary melts is controlled by the motion of the constituent having cations with smaller size and corresponding the shorter relaxation time in pure component melt.

    The Brillouin scattering experiment has been carried out for molten ZnCl2-KCl binary melts over the composition range 0–45 mol% KCl. The complete profiles of Rayleigh-Brillouin spectra were obtained at scattering angle of 90&deg;, and at temperatures ranging from 550 to 1000 K by the use of carefully purified samples. Marked change in the shape of the spectrum with variations in temperature and composition has been observed and has been concluded to be due to structural relaxation in the melts. A dispersion of sound wave propagation was observed in the melts in the hypersonic region. The spectra have been analyzed based on the viscoelastic theory on the assumption of single relaxation. The sound velocities at the limiting low and high frequencies and the relaxation time have been determined.

    チタンおよびチタン合金は宇宙航空産業等に不可欠な材料である一方、活性かつ難加工材であり、精密複雑形状部材の製造が難しい。近年、技術革新の著しい3次元積層造形法(3Dプリンタ-)によって、複雑な部品を精密に加工することが可能になってきた。その原料であるチタン系微粉末は現在ガスアトマイズ法等によって製造されているが、チタン及びチタン合金は活性であり、溶融に2000 Kを越える高温が必要といったことにより、製造コストが極めて高い。本研究では、溶融塩化物中におけるチタンイオンのシャトル反応(3Ti^2+= 2Ti^3+ + Ti)を効果的に利用し、スポンジチタンを原料とした比較的低温(673~1073 K)の単一工程でチタン及びチタン合金微粉末を製造する方法を開発する。簡易な製造装置で連続・高効率製造を可能にすることによって、製造コストの抜本的低下を実現し、宇宙航空産業だけでなく、電気自動車やロボット分野におけるチタンの用途拡大を狙う。 2021年度は、塩浴にアルミニウムイオンおよびバナジウムイオンを導入して、Ti-Al合金粉およびTi-Al-V合金粉の作製を目指した。具体的には、出発原料のTi、Al、Vの量、添加方式、溶融塩中のチタンイオン、アルミニウムイオンさらにバナジウムイオン濃度を変化させて、組成・形態への影響を調査した。その結果、金属アルミニウムとアルミニウムイオンを導入した実験によりTiAl2やTiAl3の粉末を得ることができた。また、金属アルミニウムとバナジウムイオンを導入した実験により、アルミニウムとバナジウムが均一に分布したチタン合金を得ることができた。

    The application of ultra-high temperature materials to gas turbines and jet engines is anticipated for improving thermal efficiency. However, the improvement by metallic materials meets the limitation, and the application of non-metallic materials is investigated. In this study, a synthetic apparatus of nano powders of amorphous Si-B-C-N that has good mechanical properties and high oxidation resistance and is anticipated as ultra-high temperature materials has been developed. Synthetic experiment of nano powders of amorphous Si-B-C-N has been conducted and the product has been stably obtained.

    本研究では、可視光域で応答可能なTa窒化物およびTa窒酸化物光触媒の効率向上を目標とする。平成27年度の成果として、TaON、Ta3N5電極の試作と光電極特性の測定について述べる。Ta板を空気酸化、アノード酸化、オートクレーブ酸化を用いて酸化処理を行った。空気酸化では、550℃で10~30分間酸化を行った。アノード酸化では、0.5M H3BO3 aq.の電解浴で印加電圧を100~470 Vとした。オートクレーブ酸化では0.15M HF aq.に電極を浸漬し、240℃、高圧下で6時間保持した。酸化後の試料はNH3ガスを20~40 mL&middot;min-1で流通し、850℃で5時間保持し、TaONとTa3N5を作製した。光源にはキセノンランプ(300W)の可視光領域を照射し、作製した試料を作用極、対極をPtメッシュ、浴をNaOH aq. (pH=12.6)として、分極測定で光電極特性を評価した。 分極測定では、酸化側にわずかに分極しただけで光電流が発生した。また、光を照射したときに瞬間的に流れるチャージ電流も、ほとんど発生しなかった。アノード酸化試料において印加電圧0.1と0.8 Vのときでは、光電流の値は3.38倍になった。一方、オートクレーブ酸化試料において、印加電圧0.1と0.8 Vのときでは、光電流の値は1.54倍となり、印加電圧の依存性が小さいフラットな光電流を発生させることに成功した。これまでの研究では、外部より電圧を印加することにより水素を発生させていた。つまり、水素発生の駆動力は光だけでなく、外部電源も寄与しており、本当の意味でグリーンテクノロジーではなかった。しかし、本研究によって、電極の作製を工夫することで外部電圧なしでも水素を発生できる可能性が見えてきた。
