    Heat transfer in supercritical carbon dioxide (sCO2) is experimentally visualized, and a measurement method is proposed for evaluating the transport phenomena in near-critical, liquid-like, and gas-like conditions. There are various uses for sCO2 in engineering applications, such as abstraction, material processing, and soil remediation. However, the heat and mass transfer under supercritical conditions have not been fully revealed, and innovative measurement techniques with higher spatial and temporal resolutions are required. This study focuses on the evaluation of heat transfer in sCO2 using a high-speed phase-shifting interferometer. The density distribution of sCO2 under different temperature and pressure conditions is successfully visualized with the proposed interferometer. Characteristics of the density field patterns are observed near the critical point and in liquid-like and gas-like conditions. It is demonstrated that the sensitivity of the density (i.e., refractive index) to temperature changes is different for each condition. The transient heat transfer under gas-like condition is evaluated by the interferometer, and numerical simulations with 3D model are performed to evaluate the experimental results. Finally, the interference fringes pattern obtained by the interferometer is shown to be qualitatively in good agreement with the numerical temperature field change. Additionally, transient variations of optical path length difference obtained in the experiment, which means apparent temperature distribution, were compared with numerical simulations. Experimental results are quantitatively in good agreement with the numerical results under a thermal diffusivity of order 10−8 m2/s, confirming the feasibility of the proposed measurement technique for the transient heat transfer in sCO2.

    The role of near-critical properties has been considered as key point for the understanding of transient origins of fluid transport physics, especially in the boundary layers. Asymptotic model analysis with modified governing equations of the fluid has been utilized to study the characters of near-critical fluids subjected to a temperature pulse, under different boundary conditions: thermostatic or insulated. The asymptotic solutions show that the boundary layers are mainly governed by the diffusion effect (sensitive to spatial gradients) while exhibiting the wave character in bulk. When a small thermal pulse is imposed at the boundary, wave process with a magnitude about 0.05 mK is seen generated. The wave propagates in the one-dimensional cell, reflecting a quick re-distribution of parameters in acoustic timescale. Transient temperature and pressure results show that as the fluids flow across the boundary layers to the bulk, acoustic wave process is associated with that of the specific energy transportation process.

    Supercritical carbon dioxide (sCO2) has been proposed as one new alternative separation medium for soil remediation due to its preferrable dissolution properties and environmentally friendly nature. This study is focused on the effects of operation parameters, such as separation pressure, temperature and processing time, on the extraction efficiency of inorganic contaminants (chromium; arsenic) from soil samples by using the newly established kilogram-scale prototype. The prototype system was operated with Cyanex 302 as a chelating agent and methanol as a co-solvent. The extraction efficiency (EE) of chromium (Cr) is experimentally identified to be 97.98% at 35 MPa and 75 °C (with 60 min processing time), while it is found to drop quickly at low temperature and pressure (only 40% under 20 MPa and 35 °C). The EE of arsenic (As) has been identified generally with high efficiency, over 95% for most cases. For chromium (Cr), 30 MPa and 55 °C or higher parameter ranges are recommended to maintain an efficiency over 90%.

    A multiple dissociation model is proposed that considers transport phenomenon in the interface of MH at practical dissociation conditions. Two methane dissociative reaction are assumed as follows: (i) dissociation reaction of methane molecules without destroying the host cage of MH as a concentration driving force difference between MH and bulk phase, and (ii) decomposition reaction of the host cage of MH as a chemical potential driving force difference between hydrate and liquid phase. These reactions depend on dissociation conditions.

    In this study, heat and mass transfer phenomena were observed using special laser interferometry and evaluated by a numerical model to understand the dissolution phenomenon in supercritical carbon dioxide. As a result, it was succeeded to observe peculiar heat transfer phenomenon in supercritical carbon dioxide. In addition, acetone was selected as a pollutant, and the mass transfer due to the evaporation of acetone into the air was measured. The mass transfer of acetone in supercritical carbon dioxide was evaluated with numerical calculation.

    本研究では、海洋メタンハイドレート貯留層からの天然ガス高効率生産および増産に向けた、メタンハイドレート解離メカニズムの解明と、高確度なメタン生産量の推定を実現する解離現象のモデル化を最終目標としている。 前述の最終目標を達成するためには、メタンハイドレート生成および解離手法の確立、および界面近傍での非定常密度変化の定量計測や反応速度の評価が不可欠となる。そこで本研究では、気体の高精度温度圧力制御によるメタンハイドレート生成および解離手法の構築、高速位相シフト干渉計を用いたメタンハイドレート界面近傍での非定常密度変化の定量計測、また化学反応モデルを用いた解離現象の律速過程の評価を行った。 気体の高精度温度圧力制御については、ペルチェモジュールおよびシリンジポンプを用いた実験装置を構築することにより、反応容器内の温度および圧力の制御を実現し、メタンハイドレートの安定した生成および解離を実現した。 メタンハイドレートは、気体の減圧により分解させ、解離したメタンによる濃度変化を、独自の計測技術である高速位相シフト干渉計を用いて、μmおよびmsの高時空間解像度で非接触計測することに成功した。計測の結果、メタンハイドレート界面近傍において、密度変化が生じたこと明らかにし、本計測においてメタンハイドレート界面近傍における非定常熱物質輸送の定量計測を達成したといえる。 また、熱物質輸送および解離の反応速度を考慮した化学反応モデルを構築し、解離現象における活性化エネルギーをパラメータとして、実験で得た密度変化の比較検討を行った。比較の結果、解離現象は拡散律速でなく、反応律速に近い状態で生じる可能性を示した。以上より、高速位相シフト干渉計による計測および、化学反応モデルによる評価を達成し、解離現象の律速過程の評価を可能としたことは重要な結果である。
