Investigate the chemical composition of certain naturally occurring animal adhesives with a view to applying what is learned to biomimetic manufacture and usage of synthetically manufactured glues. Particular attention is foccussed on properties of secure adhesion to smooth glazed surfaces.
 
 
Obtain specific images of optical sections though the intact nervous system of several species of octopus to compare structural differences among certain genera. Objectives: (1) To confirm previous references to degeneration of the central brain and optic nerve system in certain genera; (2) To clarify the concept of the genus in the biodiversity of different groups of organisms; and (3) To contribute to the debate concerning fundamental phylogenetic relationships in terms of paraphyletic groupings.
 
 
Investigate the protein structure of naturally-occurring light guides with a view of applying what is learned to biomimetic manufacture and usage of similar structures for application to modern technology.
